    Thank you for you helpful video! And you provided the dataset too. Awesome! Just a doubt... it seems that JASP does not estimate CFA models with ordinal variables. They must be set as scalar before choosing DWLS estimation method. Is it correct?

  • @pampuch65
    @pampuch65 3 месяца назад

    The DWLS estimator in JASP is broken! Do not use it. If anyone wants to perform ordinal factor analysis, do it in R, especially if it is for a more serious purpose (such as a thesis). The DWLS estimator in JASP often offers totally nonsensical results, in contrast to, for example, EFA and CFA with ML. I believe this is because DWLS in JASP performs the estimation on the polychoric correlation matrix, which often broke if there is not enough data for every Likert point for every item. Thus, it is not the case that DWLS in JASP works better than ML when you have skewed data, it just messes things up totaly :-) In short, the auto-estimation function in JASP is a total disaster. Use ML, as it will at least give you interpretable results and is robust in JASP to not totally broke. Alternatively, check your model also in EFA with MINRES or ML estimators (which are very similar) and oblimin rotation. For CFA, change your items to scale and compute the CFA with ML. If you have highly skewed items, it will just lower your statistical power, and you may not get that good fits (compared to WLS in R) or even find all the factors if they are not clearly distinct (non-correlated with others). But you will get interpretable and not totally broken results. :-)

    • @drEresearch
      @drEresearch 9 месяцев назад

      Well, usually with Efa we don’t do any fit statistics. Generally it’s an exploratory procedure. If you have any structure that makes theoretical sense after the Efa, I would test it on another sample with cfa

    When certain cells are missing a value, how can you still do a sum? It seems that JASP doesn't calculate the rows that have empty cells.

    • @drEresearch
      @drEresearch 11 месяцев назад

      Right. It only finds the sum if there is complete data. A way around this is to sum the data in a spreadsheet first, then load it into JASP.

    Hello mrs, i wanna ask. What is the function of factors below the covariates. Thx u

    • @drEresearch
      @drEresearch 11 месяцев назад

      Factors are variables that are categorical. For example, gender, class, etc. You can use either nominal or ordinal variables there. Covariates is for ordinal or interval-ratio variable. Note that ordinal can be used either place. If you use it as a factor, each category will be compared to the first category. If you use it as covariate, it will be treated as if it is interval-ratio.
