Mumbai's first Ganesh Mandal | 125th year of celebration | Keshavji Naik Chawl | In my diary
At a time when Ganesh mandals are competing for extravagant themes, bigger idols, colourful decor and more publicity, Mumbai’s first Ganpati which got Lokmanya Tilak as its foundation, sits in one quiet corner, surrounded by 150 tenants of the Keshavji Naik Chawl in Girgaum.
Established in 1893, the Shree Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Sanstha brings a similar-looking two and a half feet idol which is made by generations of the same family every year during Ganesh Chaturthi and have completed 125 years of celebration this year.
