Those buildings didn't have shingles. They had wooden shiplap on the sides. These buildings were built in the 1930's. Virtually, every military installation in CONUS had these buildings in use until the early 2000's. The originally had coal fired furnaces and then were converted to fuel oil (diesel/JP Fuels). While some still exist, most have been demo'd and replaced with modern construction. These buildings were notoriously cold in the winter and hot as hell in the summer.

I lived in St Marys Kentucky where the L&N had a line that ran behind my mom and dads house when l was a kid .Always loved the trains that ran past the house used to write down the engines numbers to see how many times they came past We also lived on the tracks going up and down them as a kid .Sadly in the early 90s the line was abandoned and the tracks taken up .I have pictures of them taking the tracks up with my dad standing next to a mile post .It was sad when the trains were gone especially when the L&N name went away

The last month that the Reds played in Old Crosley Field. I loved that place. The Reds played the first 100 games of that season 70-30, a crisp .700 start. Then their pitching staff got decimated by World Series time and they lost to the Orioles. Still a very fun season to be a Reds fan. They moved to Riverfront (blah) but played the All Star Game their that year (Rose ran into Fosse), the NL playoffs, and the World Series. Not a bad year to be a Reds fan at all .

I caught the same pair of units going east with a loaded grain on the Chicago Line this past Sunday. I assume it got loaded near Toledo, but didn't get a symbol for it.
