Oldest Hiker in USA | Nimblewill Nomad
Today, we’re talking about M.J. “Nimblewill Nomad” Eberhart, who made history as the oldest person to complete the Appalachian Trail at 83. Born in 1938, Eberhart didn’t start long-distance hiking until later in life, but quickly became a legend. Known for his nomadic lifestyle and motto, "No destination, just the journey," he embraced the challenges of the Appalachian Trail in 2021. The 2,193-mile hike is a grueling test, but Nimblewill’s determination carried him through. On November 6, 2021, he reached the summit of Mount Katahdin, proving that age is no obstacle to adventure.

Can you also tell us or share the maps along? As I want to do all the trails
Did 13 miles of the Bright Angel trail with my dad in June, it was awesome but 30-40 degrees warmer at the bottom than the top. I heard multiple people died on it after we hiked it so it's definitely a scary one
What a load of rubbish. Kings trail photos are from Sweden, thousands of kilometres north
Cant wait for a Tara Dower video!
Incredible gentleman right there!
THANK YOU FOR TELLING HIS STORY!
July 2014 my scout troop was in Glacier National Park for a high adventure trip. Imagine my surprise when we were sitting down to dinner our first night and up walks an older hiker who introduced himself as Nimblewill Nomad. It was his first night on the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail. I knew immediately we were among hiker royalty and encouraged my companions to listen to his stories. Legend!
👍
1.24 Costwold Way? LOL
Kokoda Track would be my favorite hike! Soooo wild! Thanks for sharing.
Thx for sharing. Walked last year the West Highland Way and this year the Rob Roy Way. Hope to come back one day for another hike. Like Robert Burns I have to say, I left my heart in the Highlands!
On the 2018 AT Karel had a one man support team as far as I know, aka sloppy Joe. This video is a mix of footage taken from his recent PCT record, The Barkeley Marathons (completed), and even from his adventures in NZ (from the docu "Out There") if I am not mistaken.
It's 25.1 miles rim to rim. Did it this year
The last one looks really tough
It's not. Whenever I'm at Paradise photographing the wildflowers, I head up to Camp Muir for a few hours to pass time. The only hard part is the altitude. Because it's a snowfield, there is no avalanche danger, the trail is well worn from all the climbers and hikers.
Mist trail is not dangerous. It's just the dipshits that climb over the railing and fall off the waterfalls.
Did you take the background music from Scary Interesting?
the background music you hear in videos is often provided by RUclips in the creator portal. I'm not sure about this specific background music, but there are also music creators out there that allow other creators to use their music. I just stumbled across this channel myslef.
What the hell!
Just found your channel & subscribed let's see what you got 👍
Where in the merry hell is Edinburg??? 😮😂
for a hike? ;-)
Amazing hikes but you forgot the one of the best, the Malerweg
Danke, must include that in a part 2!
Runyon Canyon looks dope
I’d like to do the first one to the Hollywood sign. I’ve talked about this one before. I thought the freedom trail in Boston would be on this list. I’d like to go back and film it. 👍
"The Spot " on the Nankoweap Trail GCNP will always get a hiker's attention
Good video mate thanks
🫣🫣
Many deaths and injuries are due to inexperience, lack of prep, poor decision making &/or weather. The trails themselves, are what they are. 9/10 it's the hikers that make a hike dangerous.
In terms of hiking in Hawaii, Kalalau isn’t even top 20 most dangerous trails. The Ko’olau Summit Trail makes Kalalau look like a casual stroll in a park by comparison. Kalalau seems more dangerous in terms of statistics because it’s one of the most popular hikes in the state
Easy Hikes mates 🙄
it would be interesting to know if person whos record Karel shattered had a team of 9 people like Karel did.
Why did you put "several deaths" for some of the casualty numbers instead of hard numbers?
This guy is extreme!
I hiked Mt. Washington a dozen times via every route. Tuckerman is the one you send your friend up when they bail on Huntington Ravine. In fact, Tuckerman is the easiest route up Washington. Sections of Huntington are as close to technical rock climbing as you can get without rope. My favorite trail of all time.
The pronunciation shows this is a computer generated narration.
Angel’s landing didn’t have any safety rails/chains whatever in 1975, when I did it and it still wasn’t dangerous unless you were extremely retarded.
They are just some famous hiking trails with a few risks(strong wind/a little exposure/slippery conditions), but not the "most dangerous" at all.
Most of these, Mist, Bright Angel, Angels Landing are just because they attract tourists who have little to no actual experience and act like idiots. Capitol and maybe Half Dome are the only ones that are innately dangerous. Lots of accidents "near" mist trail but almost never on it. Climbing up the waterfall, isn't part of the actual trail. It's stupid tourists being stupid. Virtually everyone that has died on Angels Landing did so because of their own reckless behavior that had nothing to do with the actual trail.
Å sounds like oh
Having hiked to the top of Mt. Washington many times I can say the Tuckerman Ravine trail is the most popular but not the most dangerous. Weather aside, trails like the Huntington Ravine trail is more dangerous, a section of it is a rock climb.
Mist Trail on this list is a joke.
Well made rock steps that get wet. Scary! LOL
Bright Angel is a HIGHWAY -- congested with more people than you'd ever want to find on a hiking trail -- just don't do it in mid-summer
The death toll for the Tuckerman Ravine Trail on Mt Washington is no where near the 150 lives lost listed on the video. That figure is for the entire mountain area and most of those are during winter conditions and bad weather exposure (can happen even in middle of summer here). Yes, the trail is steep and treacherous but it cannot claim all the lives lost in the wider area over the hundreds of years that people have been visiting the area.
Also, some of those deaths were in car accidents driving up or down the mountain on the auto road.
Most dangerous hikes in the US?... down to my neighborhood 7-11 at 2am
You live in Detroit 😮
You have to include Cactus to Clouds, Palm Springs!
Mt Washington’s wind speed record was broken in 1996. Also on earth is a bit of stretch as tornadoes can cause winds far above 300mph.
Volcanic eruptions trump tornadoes. The Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha‘apai volcanic eruption in January 2022 created shockwaves so powerful that they triggered winds as high as 450 mph, that were measurable by satellites at altitudes of 120 miles above the earth's surface.
wind is measured from a horizontal flow and Mt Wash still holds the record for a manned area. Barrow Island is an unmanned station, but it technically holds the record
@@1967foghorn Wind that spreads out in all directions, by definition includes horizontal flow.
Great stuff!
Cheers mate
Didn’t know England hold trails like this!
A lot of people don’t know!
Beautiful hikes and country!!
Truly is!
Some of these trails looks pretty interesting! Scary stuff
I was surprised that the trail to Camp Muir on Mt Rainier wasn't on this list. I have seen it on other similar lists. This trail gives people an illusion of safety because you can look back and see the visitor center from many places on this trail. So it FEELS like you are still close to safety. However, the weather can change rapidly up on Mt Rainier and many people get lost in whiteout conditions and succumb to the cold or walk off a cliff.
