Just finished playing SS2 for the first time and it really reminds me of Deus Ex in many ways. Maybe SS3 loosely became Deus Ex?

It's fucking great. She sees herself as an immortal, irresistable, implacable, inevitable god. SHODAN genuinely believes herself to be the ultimate life form and everything else ***MUST*** bend to her will, as a universal truth. The fact that you tell her "Nah" like she asked for some of your McNuggies is amazing- it's just so dismissive and nonchalant.

What's not to love? Goggles was offered a choice, and he said nah.

Best ending ever fr, sometimes you fight against horrors for so long you end up saying "whatever" to them.

Even the whole game was a serious dark mindf**k this ending really takes it to a unpredictable satire. What did you want? More doom and gloom? A friendly middle finger to the player and hostile one to Shodan. Love it.

I mean it's a silent protagonist, even saying "Nah" is pretty huge.

The way system shock 2 had gone until the many were defeated, I was expecting shodan to make good on her promise and fully cyborg me. But then the game suddenly went off the deep end.

What exactly is this ending for System Shock 2 you ask? Well, it’s the amalgamation of the epitomized attitude that defined the 1990’s “rad-image” of “cool” via the non-negotiable use of situational“one-liners”; grafted into the contextual definition of the immersive-sim benchmark/ standard template…. Which, continually transcended, has thankfully become the basis of modern gaming (gaming-culture) & will continue to evolve harmoniously! In general though, Immersive-Sims are not appreciated by everyone but do contribute substantially large percentages of its DNA in most of the games that are loved by damn near everyone

That man has been physically, mentally and spiritually destroyed by shodan. She took everything from him. He is just done with her! "Nah!" Is the perfect response to such a narcissistic monster! Not to mention anyone who played the original knows shodan always has a backup plan or idea. If you have a chance to take out shodan you take it because in a matter of moments you could be screwed.

By this point in the game, the player's character has listened to Shodan blather on and on, for hours, about how she's a god. How humans are insects and how you're not supposed to be able to do what you do. There's not a lot more to say other than _"naaah"._ 😉

There was no better way to end this really. You cant really do much more than say "no" to something thats obviously trying to manipulate you, and can outsmart you otherwise.

Oh god, it's not even the real ending. i assume you guys know this, and we're already safe from spoilers. A guy was treating his girlfriend in a medical tube in the Von Braun, iirc, shodan extracted a bit of her personality in the girl. And then the guy, carrying the girl, boarded the escape shuttle to jettison from the Von Braun. when the girl awoke, she is now possessed by shodan. Dude this after credit scene should be the setup to System Shock 3.

Ok I understand this ending is underwhelming, however is not the kind of "underwhelming" that annoys me. I find it even hilarious in a good way because through out the whole game Shodan mocks you for being inferior and nothing more than a tool to destroy the many. Once the many is destroyed Shodan tríes to kill you but fails at the end and you defeat her. Her last resource? Try to manipulate you (again, and with an obvious lie this time) by saying you can rule together. What the protagonist say to that: "nah" and shoots her in the face. A very simple but straight ending, and i'm ok with it.

They really turned a horror game into a dark comedy in the end
