Here we are, almost 5 years later, and there's still no way to cast epic spells in 5e, I'm currently home brewing the method required to attain lichdom. Current spellcraft DC is 415 after adding the permanent duration factor. My personal head canon is that liches so often have cults because one would need a cult to achieve lichdom in the first place. It also explains their relatively decent charisma scores. Having a cult help a wizard ascent to being a lich seems like a lot of fun and resource acquisition for the spell is an adventure in and of itself. Gotta have participants to lower that insane spellcraft DC. Edit: Got the DC down to 380 by adding 13x Backlash 1d6 damage (i made this necrotic) to reduce it by 13, 10x Increasing casting time by 1 minute to reduce it by 20, and making it a self spell instead of a target or aoe to reduce it by 2. Edit 2: With 20 casters using a 9th-level spell slot (DC -17) each, the casting requires a DC of 40, while not easy, is within the realm of possibility.

I've been looking into this because of a future campaign I want to run. To simplify it, it's like a matrix into the 90s video games and internet style that doesn't take itself too seriously. But I did feel it'd be a perfect chance to use loot boxes, but with a bit more of an in-universe twist. The loot boxes themselves exist in the campaign and players can spend their dabloons to purchase them. I don't plan on accepting cash from players, but I would tell them that I'd award players that bring snacks to the meeting with dabloons. You definitely bought up some good ideas that I can use for this system.

I'm still rather inexperienced and ik a DM could just say no because it would be a headache, but in the deck of many things the card "The Fates" allows you to avoid or erase one event as if it had never happened, the only limit mentioned is you have to use it before you die, so could one theoretically pull that card and use it to undo Karsus's avatar and stop all these restrictions from ever going into place?

I know I'm late but I plan to run a chapter in our campaign, where one of the players becomes a captain of a relatively underpowered yet decently large ship. I didn't know how to go about it but thanks for the inspiration. I'll homebrew a lot of stuff to run it Assassin's Creed Black Flag style. And adding some magical stuff to it + other things like making a fleet and being able to renovate an old seaside town into a port/secondary home base. Since the ship is their primary home. The player liked the idea and she even used it in her character's backstory. Stating that she used to be a navigator on a pirate hunter ship, before meeting an unknown ship that sunk them in a single shot. She doesn't know it yet but that ship is also stolen from Assassin's Creed. "The Storm Fortress" Thank you for the awesome ideas, I hope this will be as great as it sounds.

Vampire here XD, we just defeted strahd but my Bard Changeling got turned by Strahd himself (funny Story I Lied to my Party to get the "trust" of strahd maped the Castle stole a bunch of Things, including the sunsword and the icon of Ravenloft, but got caught) they stole Strahds blood to turn me into a Real Vampire and know my Party got very complicated very fast XD due to my Best friend Former Hollow one cleric of Kelemvor, know human lathander cleric! DM made it Realy cool we are Kinda like ying and Yang we are a Part of each other, but can't be one. Light and Dark, we kinda Switched places! Mechanicly I have a blood pool so that I can't reg endlessly and I can walk in sunlight as long as I Cover myself so I Look like an assassins creed Char know XD... But with a lute

What about Stargate Atlantis Vampire-esk race, The Wraith? Instead of blood they suck out life fore from beings, they get get old the longer they feed on a person till the victim shrieval up into dryer up husk. They not weak to sun light and are tough and regenerate quick from wounds but their not totally invulnerable to damage, if they take enough hits they can permanently die from them.

You could also take the Morbius rout to vampires in dnd. My group is playing Curse of Strahd and we currently have a living vampire in the group. Similarly to Morbius, Anthony the living vampire, was transformed while trying to find a cure for a disease. He then found himself working for Strahd before meeting the party. Strahd couldn't take any chances and erased Anthony's memory rendering him powerless, ignorant and mentally unstable. To make things more interesting Van Richten was the one who set the party up with Anthony. My friend does a great job playing this character and honestly, it makes for an interesting group dynamic given the setting of Ravenloft.
