. 72. Biden vs Europe: Trade Wars & Confronting China [BONUS]
"I think this administration-and President Biden personally-is very much attached to Europe, but when you look at the situation today, there is indeed a de-synchronization.” In an interview with CBS’ 60 Minutes, French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted the growing tension in the transatlantic relationship as the United States and Europe rift apart in a number of areas such as economics and energy. The EU has raised concerns that the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), a major package of legislation signed into law by President Biden earlier this year, will severely damage European industry through its use of subsidies and tax credits to promote manufacturing in the US. The dispute was at t...

In 1791, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth adopted one of the world’s most avant-garde constitutions, one establishing a progressive constitutional monarchy. And yet the opposite has happened: the EU has since grown into a powerful geopolitical player of its own that is internall...

When I asked the question to the Labour candidate back in 2014 about how the voting was going for independence he said that they only needed Glasgow to vote yes. Low and behold the Glasgow people did vote Yes, so tell me how we are still part of a corrupt institution where only the rich get richer and the rest of us are told to shut up and stop moaning. The last American elections were publicized that it was a bit iffy with the postal vote being tampered with. I personally think that Scotland's ballot postal votes and the final count were definitely a big bit IFFY. So what's wrong with the old saying if at first, you don't succeed try, try again. As a nation, I believe we can start fresh and rebuild our great country, where you could go anywhere in the world and be respected just because you were Scottish. if we all worked together and put political/social and religious differences behind us we could build that great nation again.

For all of the lauding about lack of slavery, Jim Crow laws and less "inequality" within Europe than the USA, it must be mentioned that the USA has been much more successful in integrating immigrants of all backgrounds into national life and the national economy. Slavery and Jim Crow were yesterday; lack of integration of immigrants within Europe, and including France seems to be a problem without a solution. Why is that? Perhaps we learned from our history and Europe did not.

    1. Assange, if he happened to be a Chinese journalist revealing China secret, he would have been awarded Nobel Peace Prize, instead of being put into prison. 2. Joe Biden has called for boycotting on Bejing Winter Olympics, and few countries have anwer the call eagerly, yet the American government has submitted visa applications for 18cgovenment officers to China , and planning on 40 more! And China foreign speechman reveal the secret, and America said it's a team FOR the olympics. Really? Is this a 3 year old game? And of course, western media doesn't mention a word about it. And there are too many examples like this. So the western media is neither objective, nor just! That's to say: Xinjiang is completely a distorted lie, used by the powerful western speech power to demonize China, and many many many innocent and naive western people believe it. Sorry guys, you always say that Chinese people are brainwashed, but as a Chinese who check both sides, have lived and experienced lives both in China and the west,, I am very sorry to tell you: the westerners are the ones being brainwashed, manipulated. In an ocean of false informations on China, westerners are educated from birth with only negative information about China. There was this magazine for young age kids saying to these poor young readers: we don't want to be Chinee, because they genoside the Uygurs! You don't see anything wrong with that? You are spreading discrimination and hatred in the heart and the head of young kids! You should really learn Chinese and check out how China reports on other countries! When there is tragedy happening in other countries, China report and always shows sympathy and support. Yet, when western media report on China, when it's bad news, exaggerate more, when it's good news, it will always come with a BUT! And all this is going more and more extreme since the covid! If you go down this way, west will end up not understanding China, and mistakes will make when it comes for decision making. This will benifit no one. Believe, Chinese people understand the west much better than the reverse. Because, the west used to be worshipped by the Chinese. We want to achieve the same level of live for.all the.Chinese people, too. We have sent so many students to the west. And finally China has lifted all the population out of extreme poverty, by learning to use the western market system. Yet, the west is not happy, not celebrating for us. Instead of the China Collapse theory, it comes the China Threat theory. The west consider itself to be moral, but as a matter of fact, maybe it has never been. The west might not want the China to become strong, not want the Chinese people to live a better life, not want the Indians to live a better life, not want the Africans to live a better life. The west wants to keep the big big part of the cake for itself, and the rest of the world better just share the leftover, maybe that's it???

Good discourse in general. However, it also obvious that the comments from the two moderators towards the end are heavily influenced by the orchestrated negative main stream narratives regarding Xinjiang and Hong Kong. This is rather unfortunate, and to a certain degree, sad, that such deliberate misleading narratives contradict the many independent foreign nationals (including western ones), who have visited these regions recently, or, who are currently living or working there, and can see for themselves what actually happened on the ground. Their accounts almost never get reported or mentioned by these main stream media, and if mentioned, are simply dismissed as paid propagandists. China need to open up and encourage more visitors to these places so that more people get to find out the truth, despite the dangers posed by some die-hard sinophobes coming in and do misleading reports again. It is a risk that needs to be taken just like what President Xi says about opening China up to the global markets economically despite the many potential hiccups which just needs to be managed along the way. The governance may not be perfect but they are in the right direction.

In the debrief we are a lot freer to share our thoughts. You raise some good points, but as a cynic, China's reluctance to open up Xinjiang is a clear red flag. The testimonies of former detainees cannot be ignored. Genocide claims are far-fetched but the alternative, "nothing to see here, all is normal," seems a lot further away from the truth here. The Xinjiang narratives to me is akin to Nayirah al-Ṣabaḥ propaganda when she lied to push the "evil" Iraq narratives. Xinjiang is just another US propaganda to demonized China. If you have visited Xinjiang, you will find the people there happy and going about their business. In fact, if they are "oppressed" like what the mainstream media portrayed, they are the happiest "oppressed" people you will ever come across. Every reports about Xinjiang from the "News" were recycled materials that usually come from the same source that barely pass any scrutiny. Everyone should be careful not to be mislead into war, just like the Iraq war.
