After a lot of troubleshooting and research, I think I have a similar problem but coolant is also being sucked into the combustion chamber. From your experience, is it likely coolant is being sucked into the combustion chamber? Steam is coming out of my exhaust pipe. I don't think it's a blown head gasket. My spark plug wells do seem to have coolant in them. Also, when I first turn on the 2008 Ford Econoline E250 V8 4.6 2 valve, after the van sits foe awhile, steam comes out of the exhaust pipe a lot more but then reduces. I have no DTCs. I had to replace the water pump. Now there is preasure in the coolant system but I am still loosing coolant somewhere. My engine only shakes after the engine warms up. My coolant guage is not working but my scan tool shows the temperature. That van seemingly only has a cylinder head temperature sensor, not a typical coolant temperature sensor. The vehicle barely moves when pressing the gas. I appreciate you sharing your experience with us. Thank you.

You're very welcome. Yes you are right your van has got an internal coolant leak if you can't locate any sign from outside but the coolant level always gets lower by time. The gasket itself and the surrounding holding it can fail in equal chances, if the failure is closed to the chamber, the vacuum caused by the cylinder will definitely suck in the coolant and that is why you saw it steaming out of the exhaust. In that case, you may not only consider the intake manifold leak but also possibly the head gasket leak wherever the coolant passage forms. Very hard job my friend. Good luck!

I removed the upper intake manifold and sure enough the gasket is damaged in multiple areas. I really hope the new gasket will fix this problem. Thank you very much for your feedback.

Hi, I put it back together but the thermostat housing cracked and the engine is not running well. I need to make sure I have everything connected properly. I purchased a PCV valve and the thermostat housing. I plan on installing them soon. It's possible that the coolant leaking into the combustion chamber damaged the cylinder rings, etc.

To me that looks like the screw hole at that corner of the intake manifold has been cracked so the gasket at that point can't be held tightly. Plastic with brass insert form that hole, overtime and over heat become very brittle. My two cents.

For what I understand, the elbow piece is to stop the sewer's fume from reaching the surface. Like many basements, I do have an open drain, which will allow water to drain off the basement's floor in case of water issue. Why can I just install a low profile L shape and run direct to where the drain is, and close up with a box? My preferred location is apprx 6 feet from the drain.

In the video you can see a little rectangle black block on the drive shaft housing just right above the water level, there were three small holes on each side of this block from where cooling water spayed out of the drive shaft housing. @@bubbamanuel0683 I am not quite sure about the Johnson 2.5. but if there are holes there they should be for the telltale purpose. Since these holes are not the only way cooling water come out as most water directly go down along the drive shaft housing to the bottom, so if there is no water spraying out of the holes that may not necessarily mean that there is no water pumping to the power head. Because the water flow may not strong enough to make mists out of the holes, or the holes may got clogged by debris....but if you don't see water I will suggest a full exam for the water pump to make sure the propeller is in working conditions.
