Installing CHEAP LED Light Pods - Worth it?
Watch me install some cheap lights on my Pathfinder! Off-road lights can be either really cheap or really expensive, so I thought I'd see if the cheapest ones I could find were any good.

Better ways of showing off your bike lol by the way its gorgeous
what replacement antenna do you have
On the car? I haven't replaced it, pretty sure it's stock.
I'm almost done with my Pathfinder 1997 just missing fix wheel bearing
Shis dumb
Honestly for ur budget, u should have jump to sylvania off-road lights. They meet and exceeds ur expectations. With around $50 a pair plus hardware. They will perform way better by a long shot, with a 100 years of lighting expertise, and a lifetime warranty. Get the sylvania 3” ultra spot pod lights, or sylvania - 3” X pod wide flood light. Those are way better options for the price. @Totaloutdoors
Went from factory size 265/70R17 on my 4Runner to 235/75r17. Overall skinny tires does fine all around with improved handling and acceleration, accept if you rock crawl or mud bath which I don’t do. Down side is 235s for17 inch rims are not as common for me.
On our pathfinder we basically have those same exact pods but we have them mounted on the hood as ditch lights and a 20” light bar our bumper push bar. They do absolutely amazing when we are off road and for the people that drive around with their high beams on it just adds a little flare to lettering them know that ours are brighter lol
ive been running 32x10.5s but honestly I think ill go to a 32x9.5, sounds crazy to some but in the snow you want tall and skinny, and with lighter weght vehicles skinny tires actually get more traction because they have more pounds per square inch on the ground
yeah wide tires are actually worse offroad unless it's a very specific tire for a specific terrain, skinny tires are better for 90% of places youll drive with a 4x4
5:49 coolant leak
Love the pathfinder! sadly I just sold mine this year and I miss it!
You better invest in a switch panel right from the start. It would be the only time you'll need to properly penetrate the firewall. The moment you'll need an extra fan, crawler camera, or another lightbar you'll get that an extra 100 bucks were worth each penny.
Good point! If I install any more lights I’d definitely swap them all over to a switch panel.
Nice pathfinder!
great video thanks
👌👌
What are your thoughts on cheap lights compared to more expensive ones? Thanks for watching!
Very helpful! I happened to be looking at a 97 & a 03 and was suggested this video.
I just want to be able to get a front and rear locking diff, get the most grip out there
I’ve heard you can do a lot with just a front auto locker. You can make a super packed rear diff also.
It works with oem tonneu cover ?
Yep! It did this time at least.
@ any condensation issues?
Well, the 32 ounce bottle is essentially a 1 liter bottle right? If I’m not mistaken, a liter has 33 ounces. I’m thinking the 40 ounce might be a little overkill for a hike.
I’d say for me 32oz is noticeably less than 1L especially compared to a Nalgene which you can fill up a bit past a litre.
It'll get it buffed and polished within the next 3 years I swear.
My first SUV was a 1999 Pathfinder and I regret selling it ( wife made me back then ). Now I went and got myself a 2001 LE as well as the engine and transmission out of a 2001 SE Manual. After that i'd like to get the front clip off a pre-refresh and put it on, I hope that's possible, i'd like to recreate the truck I loved haha
I have a question. I have a 97 and my fuel gauge doesn’t work and I’ve seen people talk about replacing the sending unit, but I only see ones that say 98-2000. Do you know if the earlier ones 95-97 work with those still? Or did they change something?
I believe that there are some electrical differences between the 1997 and 1998 but there’s a chance it could work, hard to say. It sounds like they might have the model years mixed up though, 95 and 96 are different generations and 99 and 00 have different bodies…
What kind of lift do you have?
No lift :)
@@TotalOutdoorsBC If someone gets a lift, wider tires can help prevent roll-overs. You don't gotta go crazy with it.
I'm currently looking at a metallic green (reminds me of the Matchbox cars of my childhood), bullet proof (you read that right, aftermarket but high quality from a top company in Sao Paulo), dark tinted windows all around, awesome wheels, black leather, looking like new 1998 model. You video helped me to make a decision as I want a more analogue car. My only concern was the lower powered engine will make it a slow car considered the roughly 200 kg extra for the bullet proofing. The car doesn't make sense for my use scenario but I love the design with the door handles of the back doors since the first model, which was the hot sh*t when I was a teen. What the heck, after your video I'm going to pull the trigger on my urban tank. Thanks!
Mines also cat deleted, slightly ported maf and some other basic power mods
3:03 It's the difference between "durable" and "reliable". New ones are 10x less likely to break _down_ , but 10x _more likely to break_ , in general. Objectively ignoring the old feud part of this - comparing trucks, you used to see Fords broken down with engine troubles, but Chevys having nicely running engines but the entire goddamn steering knuckle broken off. Durable vs. Reliable
Cool Nissan Pathfinder r50
If you still have the EGR. id fix it or delete it as it could be a source if an intake leak or exhaust causing weird readings. The VSS could be related to the terrible solder joints as on the R50 the VSS goes through the dash then to the ECU (from my research)
I used a heavy duty clutch in my r50 it would turn my 31s on dry ground
I have the same exact one bro. Same color. This is the first SUV / truck that I've owned. So excited. Definitely an upgrade from driving a sedan or a coupe. I was always used to being so low to the ground that now I'm higher up off the ground and I'm like wow. The speedometer and tachometer don't work on my either.
two ports? wow! I have the nissan consult port but not the other one.. 2001 vg33
33x10.5r15 accelra badek x-tremes would never go back to a 12.5 wide wayyyy better and actually streetable for a bogger
I've been working on my 98 pathfinder now for about a year. MY question is about the rear passenger side and the large space around the wheel well and the rear storage space. I thought I had fixed everything, but when I took it for inspection there was a gaping hole below the rear storage on the right from the rear . ALso what do you do to replace the rusty framework?
Skinny tires are so much better than wide tires! Anybody that spends time off road realizes this. Fat tires are for guys that think they look cool
I like better the 1996 to 1999 BODY STYLE !! ,,, 2000 to 2005 ok not bad but I like the previous body better ....
I bought my 99 almost 2 years ago with 273k. I replaced the distributor and spark plugs / wires. It's at 297k now and I still love it.
I have 33x12.5 r15 vs 33 x 10.5...is because they look cooler
Hi I don’t know if you’re still trying to make RUclips vids, but if you are I have a suggestion. So I was about to subscribe but I think most people find white dudes talking like white dudes super annoying. No offense, but I couldn’t even finish the video after you guys started “white bro’n out”. I promise you, it’s a thing most people find annoying. Okay anyway best of luck.
I LOVE the colour!!! Looks better than most current bikes.
Old SUVs were designed by engineers. New SUVs are designed by lawyers and marketing managers.
nice video, nissan also produced diesel versions of the R50 as well with the TD 2.7 litre 4 cylinder turbo diesel which produced 128 hp and came with both manual and auto transmissions, and the successor to the TD it was the QD32ETi which was 150 hp and then it was replaced with the ZD30 engine which wasn't all that reliable i have a 98 model with the QD32ETI motor in it, done 260 thousand km's (160 thousand miles) on it and still doesn't miss a beat, taken it all over new zealand and done some wild tracks in it
Heyyy, one quick question. do you prefer flat bars or drop bars for delivering like for 3 or 4 hours per day?
I find drop bars (with proper hoods) are more comfortable for longer rides but it depends on the frame geometry. On my blue bike I’m still leaning forward quite a bit with the flat bars so longer rides don’t feel great on my wrists. Could experiment with grips to solve that though? I think drops are the meta in bike touring because you can switch up the positions.
@@TotalOutdoorsBC thanks for sharing your experience, means a lot to me.
Lame
What are the brand of backpacks you used in the video?
Black one is the old version of the North Face Recon and the grey one is an Eddie Bauer stowaway backpack.
what would be the bed length leaving the rear seat bottoms in? for people under 6’ tall, thanks for this video and the dimensions, it’s the only place i could find it. also which exaxt model pathfinder is it? i think i saw some models of this generation pathfinder are 178”, some are 183”. thanks
Just measured, looks like about 64-65” with the seat bottoms in. Hmm I wasn’t aware of that! Mine seems to be about 175” which I guess would be the shorter one.
Size?
Did you have any issues getting the grey sticky foam pad off the front of the box - the white ones came off easily but the grey one seem stuck firmer on our box?
Yeah we do haha. The foam seems to rip off of the glue but the glue itself comes off in one piece usually.
Looks so good!! About to order the Titan color. Do you leave your roof racks on year-round?
Nice! I would say most customers only have their cargo box on when needed and take it off in the off season - saves on gas and keeps it from getting too sun damaged over the years. The bars are fine to leave on all year and almost everyone does!
I have a 99.5 model with the vg 3.3. Rock solid vehicle, and very capable off-road. I prefer the manual transfer case, because they are more reliable and easier to repair
