When you really care about a project, the last 10% tends to be more frustrating than the first 90%; but when it's finished, you will probably agree it was worth the effort. IDK about you but I hate using a dremel to cut metal unless I have to. In my experience, they are slow cutting, wobbly, and don't last long before having to change cutting disks. If it were me, I would have used a "nibbler"(takes small bites out of the metal in quick succession) or body saw(small reciprocating air saw) on the sides, and a roloc angle grinder to remove material from the center.

I ended up trimming mine right across the whole cowl reducing it by half and flush at the radius's now it clears no problem.

You should bolt on the hood latch is so it can pull the hood down and help you align everything up

Uninstalling the windshield it is a lot easier if the windshield frame is bolted on the hinges to the body, install the windshield from the outside in and have somebody push on the windshield as you pull the rope around, you don't need to wrap the rope around the whole windshield just run it about a foot past the corners on the bottom and you can work it around to pull the gasket out. Definitely use some lubrication either Windex or soap detergent like two other people suggested

did you use some dish soap and water in a spray bottle will help it slide in

Have Omix cj5 body as well and just bolted the whole front end together for test fitting and same thing hood hangs up on the cowl lip mostly on the ends , some time with a zip cut disc and finishing up with fine grinder and all good, luckily my body isn't painted yet so wasn't a big deal. Next time I'll travel far and wide find a original body these Omix oil cans are a pain.

Yup CJ windshields are a pain to put in. It does get easier if you had a second pair of hands 'though. Also, I noticed you were not using anything to lubricate the rope and seal, that makes things much harder. Generally I use a liberal amount of glass cleaner to help the gasket slip over the frame. You'll get it done. I have confidence in you. ;-)

Oh, I thought we did these projects *because* they pissed us off. Maybe I've been doing it wrong. :-P

Thank you so much for making this video! I watched hours of video on how to rebuild Dana 20 transfer cases. That only told me that everthing was in right. But it still wasn't in the right gear as I progressed through the shifts. I needed to know exactly where each gear should be in each position to figure out what was going on in my case. Turns out the new linkage I bought was too long and needed to be trimmed to make it work. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I thought I was going to have to buy a new case because i couldn't find any body to work on it.

Drill new holes and you can get Chrome button screws through and you could secure it with nuts

you can get studs to weld on the back of the dash.

i drilled new holes and tapped them and used the old nuts to get new screws. it does show on the front of the dash but i used a gauge cover and it covers the holes. it comes in black or chrome.

The ring and contact is part of the "park" circuit. If you notice the small break in one of the traces on the back of the disc, that is how the motor knows where to stop when you turn the windshield wipers off. The "park" circuit isn't neseccary for the motor to run but if you shut the motor off( just cut power) the wipers will just stop wherever they are on the glass. With the "park" circuit, the motor continues to spin until it reaches the break in the citcuit on the disc, which should be set to coincide with the wipers being down and as out of the way as possible. Keep up the great work. I know you can do it.

Epic video......I have two shifters in my 79 CJ5 but still not sure why.....or how to use them. This explains why I lock my hubs move one gear up and the wheels in front don't seem to be pulling

The fender flares are a little bit flexible if you put a clamp on each side of each hole you can pull the fender flare up and use a sharpie to Mark the tape

Try using a MECHANICAL pencil : )

i used a air angle grinder they come with a 1/8 th collet that fits a 1/8 drill bit short and drilled my holes

You could probably make a hole template for the covers using double-sided tape and cardboard.

Wow this is looking like a nice CJ5 build! Got the V8 too!

I have a 77 CJ5 and I believe the clutch pin near the firewall broke back in 2018. A mechanic did an adjustment so I could continue driving it, which worked, till present. Now, it rattles and vibrates a lot when backing up. I took her in to a shop and was told I need a new clutch and they’d have to pull the transmission to replace it, which would take 10 to 12 hours of labor not to mention the time of putting in a new clutch! My question is do I need the new pin and rod you show in video or a new clutch? Any ideas?

did you end up keeping your dimmer switch on the floorboard or did you go with an additional switch wired up somewhere else? lol you didnt seem to excited about it in the video

I would bet the dip is on purpose to help with keeping you in the bed as the boat sways to and fro

could of turned bolts around an had nuts on side you would see ? of course you would want to use acorn nuts ! just a thought but great job so far sir

Paint job looks great, my CJ5 project has stalled lately due to other interest's, I made flat nuts out of 3/16x 1 inch flat bar cut to about 1 inch long drilled and tapped them then welded them to the back side of the cowl for the dash bolts did same for the fender bolts on the inside firewall works great, now I need a T18 4sp seems impossible to find maybe a Novak T18 conversion instead.

Are you using the original glove box or the one that came with the new dash ( metal)

also the glove box will cause problem with lack of room

use rib nuts for the dash will make it easier for removal in the future. also when you put the wind shield in use a spray bottle with soap and water to help the seal slide in
