That’s a nice list, but why is Manning ranked ahead of Montana, Brady, Lawrence Taylor, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, and Jerry Rice? Manning was great but I would rank those aforementioned players ahead of him.

I wouldn't say the list is "trash" -- as others say below. Why? Because it's very hard to rank the best of the best in anything but loose groups of rankings since there are so many different variables, which, if prioritized would change the ranking. Thus, if, for example, you're going to rank Peyton Manning above Tom Brady (which very few would do), you, at least, have to explain why because 2 Super Bowl victories is a far cry from 7 -- plus Brady bests Manning in stats -- passing TDs, passing yards, passer rating, etc. Personally, I don't think a case can be made here, but if you have a stat I don't know about that caused you to rank Manning ahead of Brady, share it please. Now if we switch over to wide receivers, I think a strong case can be made that a gentleman who didn't even make this list, should be ahead of even Jerry Rice. If we look at raw, basic stats, there's no question that Rice is the undisputed #1 receiver of all time. However, if we look at another stat -- i.e. how a particular receiver's presence in an NFL offense correlated with the greatest statistical improvement of that offense's quarterback, the greatest would be Randy Moss, hands down. There are a few sites you can Google that show this. Also, if we just rely on the "eyeball test" of raw talent, I think the case can be made that Barry Sanders was the greatest running back of all-time and Lawrence Taylor was the greatest defensive lineman of all-time. Sanders had jukes that could split defenders in half and Taylor had speed and strength that could split quarterbacks in half (or at least Joe Theismann's leg). Nobody before or since could cut like Sanders or rush like Taylor.
