Thanks so much for the two videos - very helpful! 73 de N1/G7KES/P 🙂
I think they're airplanes heading towards Metro Airport, by the distance they are spaced apart. They all fly in a single file pattern
@RoboTech831 no blinking lights in the video I did point out an airplane with the flashing lights...

at fist aprs from the ht itself worked but now its sending gibrish (maybe its using the bbs thing, tho i have selected aprs) for receiving ive been using a rtl-sdr v4 and i have the same problem from the HT app, but it worked fine before and it works perfectly fine using the kiss tnc, using aprsdroid it just works reliability
Thank you this helped A LOT..73
thank youfor the vid.
Can you show us how to add more sats to the list. I see there is a txt file in open gd77
@@One-Eyed-Willly i have a howto video on that

Thank you for this. I've been getting into following the satellites lately. Caught the last run of SSTV off the ISS, but it's been fun enough that I want to keep it going. Good to know there's a handful of radios that can be set up for this.
Do you know if they're doing this tonight, or was this a one shot deal? I did a whole bunch of the ISS passes last week.
@ReedHansen84 these 2 are til the 7th i believe

SSTV Series 23 - Update 5 SSTV Status: Update as of 27-Dec 4:30 PM ET 12:30 UTC Earlier today around 14:00 UTC) the ops team began investigating reports that the SSTV transmission was no longer being heard on 145.800 MHz. In the past few hours, amateur operators are reporting SSTV transmissions from the ISS on 437.550 MHz. While this is not the nominal frequency for SSTV, you may want to monitor it as well as 145.800 until we receive further updates from Ops. TA1BPA
@sinanslmz thanks I'm not playing guessing games I'll wait til it's fixed!
What antenna did you use?
@@HB9BRJ Arrow II
The first pass here on the east coast was carrier only. The next 3 were nothing. I reached out to ARISS at 0350 this morning and they said they would look into it and try and get a message to them. They sent a message back to me at 0540 saying they had a configuration problem and that it should be all good. The 8am local time eastern, was clean and strong. I only got the last 12 seconds of #3 and then all of #4. Hopefully tonight will be better. W2GPR
I got the same weird hum
@@kb0qbt yep there must be a malfunction hopefully they work it out
it showed on a scope as carrier only with no audio.

Still have a question for you Captain Don
I have the D878 UV II (no plus) and I get a flash error while updating the firmware.. I could fix it by using cps 3.04 and flashing the 3.04 firmware version... Any idea what's going on there?
got it wrong...got the UV PLUS. sorry... working now!
@@uschi-hund send me an email at captdonmcjr at g mail dot com
@@w8cptCptDon oh hi... and why would I want to do that?
OK cause there's a strict process for updating. Let me see if i can paste it here... How to update to 3.05 Open OLD CPS Update firmware Read radio to OLD CPS and save *Export ALL CSVs so you have them as a backup. Install new CPS Open saved CP in CPS 3.05 MCU reset radio Send CP to radio Read radio back to CPS and save this CP. Go over all your channels, APRS, Optional Settings etc To make sure all is OK. *If you need to use your backup CVS. DO NOT import Optional settings.
@@w8cptCptDon ok, thanks.. as i said, it was my mistake... got the model version wrong and used the wrong cps and fw version....changed that, now it works. thanks for helping though!!!

Keps are not static. They need to be regularly updated for accuracy.
@ag1382 yes i know this. The firmware has issues the next firmware update will fix it
Which radio are you using? Is it full duplex?
@veritasweasel TYT UV-390 with OPENGD77 Firmware. It's not full duplex but the OPENGD77 tracks the doppler. Full duplex is not very useful on FM Satellites. I have a Kenwood TS-2000 in my shack with a Sarctrac Rotor and the only time I hear myself back is when it's straight overhead. I've made over 1000 FM Satellite QSOs just fine without full duplex. You just have to be courteous and only tx when you can hear people well and try not to key up over others....
@ Very Cool! Thanks! I’d love to put up an antenna with tracking, but I have an HOA and I have a feeling they would object
@@veritasweasel use the Arrow II Handheld like i do in most of these videos!
@@w8cptCptDon Thanks! Have you metered the uv-390 to see if you get 10 Watts out of 2 meters? What do you think of the Anytone D168 and D878 radios? Their output is about 7 Watts. Great channel, by the way!
@veritasweasel yeah it's about 8.7 watts. Once Anytone gets the 3.05 update I think it will be sweet. I already have a few videos working so-50 and the ISS with the 878...
I’ll try to catch you on the 21:13 pass tonight. Heading to Chicago in the morning for the week. K3DMM
