Reforestation is more important than ever in the Southwest. New Mexico’s hot, dry climate means that planting new trees takes a little care and a little expertise. At this outdoor workshop, May 18, 2024, forestry professionals discuss what to plant, how to plant and where to plant it. Other topics include how to work with contractors, how to prep planting sites, and how to order your own seedlings through the NM Forestry Division's Conservation Seedling Program.

Ray Bell served as New Mexico Game Warden from 1940-1957, and he was the first State Forester of New Mexico from 1958-1971. The living symbol of Smokey Bear would not have been possible without the dedication, nurturing and foresight of Ray Bell and his family. The following interview was taped on January 13, 2000. Ray Bell passed away on December 21, 2000.
