Acquiring a LATHE or a step closer to that 1979 Ironhead Chopper project!
I have been looking at buying a lathe for ages. I found some cool old machines online but they were either far away, shipping imposible, or out of my price range. So when my good friend called me that there's one on the market right near me, I jumped on the occasion and bought it.
So here we are!
My little training during high school some 30 years ago comes handy now, trying to remember what I know and what I don't know, what changed in all those years.
This is 1960s LYN lathe out of Brittain, nice and tight, smooth running and pretty solidly built.
Can't wait to actually start working on parts for the chopper!!
Bring it on!!!

Ride in my neighbourhood, hunting for WOLFS! Last Slovakia video on Royal Enfield Himalayan.
I couldn't resist and took the bike out for the last quick ride to my favourite place near my home village. Two days left in Slovakia and then we are flying back to New Zealand so let's enjoy all to the fullest. This cute village is called Vlkolinec and is a part of UNESCO heritage site of Europe. Only about 5 km from my home village, I pretty much grew up here, playing and doing mischief in th...

I knew about this mid winter rally for a quite some time, talking years. As this event has been going for 47 years!!!!!!!! And as it happens I have finally made it there. And boy was that a fun event! I arrived to New Zealand about 19 years ago and this rally reminds me of NZ from my early days here. Just plain old fun and happy people enjoying what we love, two wheels and likeminded company. A...

Ya gunna be the Kiwi version of Allen Millyard, just add scones or a hedgehog, hehe. Most awesome score, enjoy.
thaaaaaaaaaanks, then I will strat putting 7 irohnead paralel onto one motorcycle, I think I will need to build up to that yet ahahah
Bro I am stoked that you got it! Awesome score dude
I know man. So happy. It is on a little side but I'm sure it will be just plenty for now. Happy man
Just remember wherever you put it bro your going to be using the air gun to blow all the scragg and coolant off it when your finished to clean it down so up against the concrete wall is probably best cause it will hit the wall and fall to ground to sweep up later…against a wooden wall will get it wet and eventually rot away…Just a thought bro…New Toy,endless options…Fork extensions,Risers,Spacers,Exhaust Manifold blocks,Carby blocks, the list goes on…Exciting times bro!..Mean score!
I know bro. I clean the lathe and all the shit jumps in my shelf ahhaha. Not good. Needs a rethink! Need to sell that bmw so I have space 🤣
just make your shed bigger-problem solved
That's kind of a plan 👍😆
Great job , Lathes are great machines 👍👍👍🇦🇺
Yeah man. So much fun. Need to buy some steel stock now haha
Huey copter handle?.Brass risers as the next project.ixnay on the castors.
Haha not a bad idea. Risers sound like a great project!
Bummer, worn tires seem to pick up nails and punctures far easier than those with good tread. Respect for being so philosophical about the situation.
Haha thank you mister. It is what it is aye. The life puts us on a journey

Thank you mister. Much much appreciated
I had 1970 XLH Sportster for over 15 years then I sold it to pay off crummy divorce lawyers
that's a sad story, they are super nice bikes, and selling them for wrong reasons must be heartbraking. sorry to hear that brother
Tubeless bags always works .. plug her up air it up and off ya go..Good luck 👍👍👍
I got old original rims and run tubes. I have researched all the new tech on how to get out of trouble but it was all about tubeless. Better to carry a spare tube
oh man team Honda went passed in their van at 5:49 wonder if they had some think to help you out, still a cool video thanks for shearing the good and the bad. Really enjoy watching your videos, very good editing you must put a lot of work into them, so thanks for bring us along with you 🙂
Cheers man much much appreciated. Sometimes things don't work out as we plan but that is world of old bikes. That's why they are so interesting
BUGGER!…Oh well we live to ride another day…Good mates are hard to find man!…Those ones are legends that picked you up bro…Those cans of foam spray are good to have, they get you out of those sticky situations in the middle of nowhere but they also make a bloody mess of your tyre n rim…Better luck on the next one bro👌🦅😎
Yeah good buddies are priceless. Had few bikers get in touch on the night. But had no signal to reply haha. Can you spray that stuff into a tube?
Yeah bro. I wish I had a spare tube. I found people who could drop the tyre but all shops were closed. Next time I'm taking spare tubes. Not sure how those sprays and glues and goos work in tubes. They are mainly designed to go to tubeless but I might be wrong
@@WrenchingIrons well I’m not sure,it fits into the valve so hey it might…I’ll need to check the can I have at the lock up…mine are Tubeless so ya just connect it to the valve n spray the shit in there, then spin the tyre as quickly as possible before it sets so it gets around the tyre…so I been told…but yeh apparently it makes a hell of a mess and you have to take the tyre off n clean out all the crap struck to the rim and inside your tyre before putting a tube in…possibly more work than anything but it does get you out of a bind and back into civilisation…can only ride slow asf though but I’ve heard of guys riding a fair way on them
@@WrenchingIrons spare tube be the way to go…just don’t forget a bigger wrench too n a small bar, wonder if they do air in a can?or a little pushbike compressor, that means power, hook up a car lighter to the bike somewhere for power….more shit to carry hahaha
@@WrenchingIrons nek minit…saddlebags on the 1970🙄😂🥴🦅
That's a real shame, but awesome to see Dan and co helping a fellow biker out. Showing the not so fun part of riding. keep up the great content Mario.
Thank you Adrian. Yeah what a good bunch of people aren't they just! The biker community is pretty awesome
Got to love AA And the helpfulness of strangers to get you back on the road, I enjoy every time one of your videos pops up on my notifications, keep up the good work mate , stay safe and upright . Side note: What kind of camping gear do you use eg tent sleeping bag sleeping Matt and cooking equipment etc would love to know has wanna start motorcycle camping and going to motorcycle rally’s . Cheers mate
thaaanks for liking my vids, much appreciated, as to gear, I have HUSKY Sawaj camel www.huskyeu.eu/sawaj-camel-2-green its a Czech company, way cheaper then usa tents but as good if not better, I got all 4 season kathmandu sleeping bag, its super old, but it is alpine weather type mummy style, dawn, so its warm as some kindof isnulated inflatable mat www.bivouac.co.nz/gear/camping-and-tramping/sleeping-mats/sea-to-summit-ultralight-insulated-sleeping-mat-1.html In long trip I just have a mini gas cooker on small camping bottles with one pot and do one pot wonders but if I just go on overnights or couple days I just eat out of supermarket :) that's about it
You owe your friends a wobble pop or3(bourbon/beer) and a sticky bun for travelling up the island to haul the rattley ferguson home.Somewher down the line paying it forward.Big block got well and truly munted.
indeed and indeed, lucky to have good biker friends aye, we look after each other
I never ride without a repair kit. Its small and easy to use. Luckily, I've never had to use it but it sure gives me peace of mind.
I carry one with my tube less tyres, I have never used it in tube setting,
Damn brother, that sucks, happens to all of us at some point. Just another page in our riding memoirs though. Well handled, keep up the great work 👍
cheers Dave, I have learned to take have a heavy duty tube in take some spares with just in case haha

Such a cool bike brother, reminds me of an old 1000cc Ironhead Roadster I had
Thank you. They are fun bikes for sure!
the "music to cut your throat with" over the lovely sound of your lovely Bonne is quite the detraction. The speed filming is too speedy but great position of the gopro....really inclusive. need one o those fluffy wind cancellation gizmos....but from an ol girl who's first n only bike was a 5 valve 400 yamaha, around north n south islands....n got offered a coupla mates 5 speed Harleys for some larking about......enjoying your vlogs tho, especially the cold kiwi run ( i only ever did 2, some run at Rotorua n the Brass Monkey down south) n your one back home with that interesting couple n their very cool rides.

wow - brings back memories ... last Cold Kiwi i went to was almost 35 yrs ago .....just before i left NZ and headed overseas. Love the Ironhead Sportster too !

Back in the early 90s I had a 1978 Triumph Bonneville t140e and she would start first kick every time
That's cool as. This one has super wide cams and I don't know if that plays a role to give her a good kick. I'm still trying to figure out. As my blue 1970 she comes alive on first kick also.
$800 for that Trumpy engine 😮 good platform... swap meets are definitely worth it you never know what you could find... I lived in Palmerston North for my first 20 years yet nothing looked familiar except what I thought was Broadway and the old Regent Theatre🤔
Hard to find motorcycle orientated swap meet. I only see on internet the ones they have in states. So good. And well I have been here in NZ about 19 years. Shit is it that long already? I even seen heaps of changes in my time. Like seeing the gorge working hahaha
@@WrenchingIrons I could imagine the changes you’ve seen!! I left NZ in 1996 and I’ve seen the changes between NZ and Australia… And it’s not for the better!! However Australia is my chosen country and after 20-22yrs in NZ and 26-28yrs in Australia I’d have to say Australia is the pick👍🏾👍🏾
@@MMCPNtotally fair. For me it is my home country and NZ. Slovakia didn't really change much in all that time. Still same bulshit, bureaucracy corruption and ask that shit. So I might moan about NZ but living here is still easier. But being in Slovakia for 3v weeks this summer I fell in love with my home country again. But I was a tourist so that is a big skew.
