Without his fight you’d likely not see Beyoncé and Dr. Dre and Diddy etc own their own labels. Basically when Prince “went black” he lost the support of white radio, white press and white fans. Not all of them but it definitely happened. And Hip Hop’s accession in the 90s really hurt the interest black audiences had in the electric guitar. Prince was pretty much just selling directly to his huge fanbase in between the mid 90s and mid 2000s into his big commercial “comeback” in 2004 and induction into the Rock Hall of Fame. Where he stole the Show both in his own set and his worshipped guitar solo on the Beatles cover honoring George Harrison. The most streamed guitar solo in history. And it’s not even his best! He also won the Super Bowl in Miami in 2007. Does anyone even remember the game? He played Purple Rain IN THE RAIN! ☔️ The reason he stopped doing splits and twirls and leaps was the damage to his hips after years of trauma doing acrobatic dancing in 4 inch hard heels.
