    The only fun part of edging flitches is the speed you can run the mill down the track😁 We've had a stack of them flip to the side like you mention and never broke the blade but have put a crimp in one making it unusable.

      I would sell some of it. Green I would sell it for$3 a board foot so about $140 each. The plan is to air dry for a couple of years then kiln dry and build my daughter a coffee table, she just loves mine. Then build myself a kitchen table. Or build the table and sell it.

    Good work there Mr Roe. One trick I picked up from Middlefield Custom Sawmill is on the 180 flip is to lift it up and put one inch stickers on the bunks that way the log (not sure if it's a cant at that point) can be slid over the short nub stops a couple inches to give the effect like it was before with the belly hanging over the roller stops. Of course you may want to say a quick prayer that the cant doesn't slide over further when cutting 😁

    • @hillsidemill
      @hillsidemill 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the comment. Yea I have heard of it. Someone on woodmizer fb said they built some pieces that slid onto the nubs and get the edge of the wood but get you right up to the guide roller.

    I noticed right away that you called it "black cherry" which is what I've always called it my whole life. Other channels just call it cherry, and I'm speaking of those out east and northeast. As a woodworker, I love this, but I see useable pieces in the rest of the cant which are not profitable to cut but useable(for me). A friend who has some wooded land here in SW MO said that a buyer turned down the cherry trees on his place because cherry here in this part of the country is not good quality for grade lumber. Do you have any knowledge & comments about this?

    • @hillsidemill
      @hillsidemill 2 месяца назад

      Most cherry in my immediate area is very crooked. I think as it is growing vertical the available sun moves and the cherry just leans towards the new best sun. Lots have four to six distinct angles in the usable tree.

    Nice job retrofitting your mill. I can appreciate how much work that was. I did a lot of the same stuff to my manual '87 LT40. Added the 2-plane clamp & turner. Bought WM's hyd pump and put together my own enclosure and valving. Built toe boards and added hyd to the side stops. Modified the tensioner to up the blade tension. Haven't added the log lift yet or replaced the original Onan engine, which needs to be done. Would like to add 10-15 hp above the orig 20 hp. Really like your setworks addition.... like to hear more about it and what was involved. I still have the orig side stops which are weak and would like to put on either the ones you did or the vertical ones, if they'll fit.

    • @hillsidemill
      @hillsidemill 3 месяца назад

      www.lyuts-tech.com/. I have the sw-350. Great product. Unless they have changed the manual is terrible chinglish. There may be other features that I am not aware of. I used a winch relay to connect it to the up down motor. For the money the 23 hp predator does a good job. So far 100 hours and not a single issue. Predator is rated 23 hp at 3000 rpm Honda 25 hp is rated at 3500 rpm. Same motor though. The new side stops fit perfectly, the adjustments are opposite though. I got the matching plate as well.

    • @d6c10k4
      @d6c10k4 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for the info, I'll do some reading about the setworks. I was hoping to find a 30+ hp engine as lack of power has been the limiting factor to getting feed rates up but engines have been scarce.. WM doesn't want to talk about anything more than 25 hp for a repower kit@@hillsidemill

    You can get a minelab 900 which is about $1150 and should last a lifetime. The ones that are made for logs can cost up to $4000 and won't detect any better. It also has a telescoping handle for ease of use and you can hang it on the wall for convenient use.

    Have you ever had to replace the crank seals on your saw? And why do some teeth act as if they been hardened so that a file won’t touch them, but works on others? If I’ve overheated them with the CBN wheels on the super jolly it seems like they would more likely been annealed. 🤔

    • @hillsidemill
      @hillsidemill 5 месяцев назад

      I traded a former employer for some comp time. I think he picked it up from a pawnshop. I used it for many years and bought a new husky to replace it with. I ran it for a year and decided to put some money into the Sthil. New clutch and sprocket. New bar new filter box. That’s all I have ever done to it. Gas oil and chain. Cold, choke pull 3 times and starts if I’m fast enough to release the choke it’s running. If not 1 more pull and it’s running. Warm 1 pull and it’s going. When I got it it wasn’t using enough bar oil. I took it to a dealership and they said just use thinner oil. I tried it and it worked. From then on I just use used motor oil as bar oil and it works great and costs nothing. I have ran into hard teeth in the past. Usually when I have a chain made from a roll at a saw shop. Lately I by Organ full chisel chains. And have not had them with hard to soft teeth. I just file only. I can have a pretty dull chain sharp in the amount of time it would take to remove it and put a sharp one on. Not to mention the time to sharpen it while it’s off.

      When they were selling both LT30 and LT40 the only real difference was the length. It’s no wonder they phased out the LT30. 4 feet of frame could not have cut the production costs by much. Yes channel is growing! The one video with a lot of views are made possible from a extremely high amount of “new viewers “ according to the analytics. Where normal “new viewer” count is low. While some have returned I would like to see more of them return. So far I haven’t been able to figure it out.

      I had wanted to but by the time I got under the sapwood it really wasn’t quite big enough. That’s why it’s common to quarter saw white oak. You can keep the sapwood it’s the same color. So a 20 inch log is big enough to quarter saw.

      An LT30 is a LT40 but 4 feet shorter. They were phased out of production in late 1990s. This one is a 1988 unit I purchased it within the last year it was a full manual mill. I purchased it disassembled and threw everything but the frame away. I had it sand blasted and began building it back and converting it to a hydraulic which were produced, just not this one. I have a solid 25 in it and lots of labor as well. But it’s really a new machine. Everything but the frame is and it’s been modified in places to accommodate the hydraulics. I have a video showing some on the modifications.
