Yes, his is the best adaptation of the character apart from most of the others. It is good, it is fun, but it clearly isn't the best by a long way. I assume you have not seen any other adaptations.

I needed this movie

As a kid I loved the old Godzilla movies. The monster verse does nothing for me as an adult although I'm sure kids love it the way I used to. But minus one rocked. This is true Godzilla. There where a couple things of like to see done differently but they're all things that would have increased the budget.

This movie was goofy and boring and Napoleon Bonaparte is neither of those things. They tried to jam the entire french revolution and Napoleon's extensive military and political career and his relationship with Josephine into 2 1/2 hours. There isn't time to name any of the many important historical characters that he interacts with. I think Talleyrand gets mentioned .I'm not sure anyone else really gets identified. And he's mentioned but you don't know why and you don't know why he's important. It's like having a famous star doing a cameo in your movie without actually getting to do anything. Apparently hearing his name is enough. In this mess he stuffs things like Napoleons meeting with Wellington which never happened. How much screen time can you dedicate to fake things when you are attempting to cover the Napoleonic period in Europe, perhaps some of the most tumultuous and consequence ridden decades in European history, and Europe in it's time has known some Tumult. There is no actual information about what Napoleon actually did to succeed at Austerlitz. Instead they had a battle scene that seemed worthy of Willow. A Russian did a very good 2 1/4 hour film Waterloo in 1970 that covers the last 100 days when Napoleon returned from elba with less than a thousand soldiers at his back, out faces and takes France back from the Bourbon Kings who held it and put an army together to fight off the Sixth European Coalition that instantly formed against him. They establish Napoleon and Wellington very strongly using words and deeds from the history to do so. They also give you a thumbnail sketch of the Prussian general Blucher. They also give you an idea of what Marshal Ney, Grouchy, Druout and Thomas Pickton were like and their role in the battle. The battle is an amazing set piece ,all practical, and it follows the history of what happened at the battle as best know. It hits the highlights and lowlights of all three armies. This movie is jam packed to get these 100 days in And that's all without Joesephine because of course she dies at the age of 50 on may 29th 1814 and Napoleon returns from Elba on March 20 1815. Joaquin Phoenix was too old to play Napoleon. he is 26 when he first met the 32 year old Josephine and he loved her dearly as his love letters attest. Still this relationship doesn't get in the way of what he does. Two days after they are married he takes the Army of Italy that he commands and invades and eventually conquers Italy. Napoleon turns 46 by the time he's at Waterloo .Phoenix still looks to old to play the 46 year old Napoleon. You come away with no idea about what Napoleon was good at .You have no idea why anyone would follow him. you don't get any insight into how he planned to fight and why he was so much better than all of Europe at this. The other amazing things he did, the law, the science, the philosophy are ignored. Pretty sure Ridley Scott had little idea of what Napoleon accomplished.

I thought the characters were the weakest part, I didn’t get invested in any of them, but as far as a sci-fi film plopped on Netflix goes it wasn’t too bad. Great review, and keep up the great content!

I enjoyed the film for focusing on such a narrow perspective, at times it doesn't even feel like there is any danger when they are just having fun dancing and chatting. Very well thought out review by the way and it's always good to get others' perspective. The director's show, Mr Robot, is a really well made show from the seasons I've seen and definitely worth checking out!

He's only a kid, and English isn't his first language, so you can't expect him to have any real film knowledge or understanding of subtly or subtext. Good effort though, get some life experience and you might get what it was actually about

This movie was SO. BAD! But not gonna lie… I did find myself enjoying it a little bit. The first 2 acts are rough but I had fun with the end bit that we all came to see and some of the characters (DJ) made me laugh quite a bit. Overall I knew the schlocky mess I was going into and thats what I got. Great review, dude!

I enjoyed Harrison Ford back as Indy and some of the action was fun, but overall I just felt like this was a disposable feeling kind of movie and the 3rd act really didn’t work for me. I am a horror fan and really enjoyed the evil dead remake. If you havent seen it you should watch it. I heard mixed reviews on this film but with your recommendation i will check it out!

How old are you?, You did a good dissect of the movie! All the actuations were excellent and the history was original, loosely based in actual characters and events. Personally, I hope the movie became a franchise, has potential and is ready for that.
