The main purpose for my channeI is demonstrate the way I make my art works. I make sculptures, mainly in wood but am venturing into clay and reproductions. It is not actually tutorials but just how I do things. At times I may venture into other interests I have and hopefully all will be enjoyable and maybe instructive!

Unique Features on the Cedar Post

A quick video of the finished piece. Sorry I didn't carve the entire process. I'll try to get better at that.

Putting lips on the old cedar post carving. Getting ready to finish this one!
Cedar Post Work
Просмотров 41514 дней назад
I thinned the face of the Native American I carved on the 150 plus year old cedar post. Super glued some cracks in an attempt to stabilize them. On this video, further refining the face and working out the overall look of this piece.
Face work on the cowboy

Carving on the face and hat of the basswood cowboy. It was hot this fall when I recorded this, hence the roar of the fan. Sorry about that.
Cowboying Again

More carving, less measuring but still working on the cowboy rough out for a rough out.
Cowboy Progress

Showing the slow progress of the cowboy that I demonstrated my pointer system on. It is a tedious process so I edited out the measuring parts. Also showed the difference sharp tools make at the end.

A basswood carving I did from a Harold Enlow roughout. It is about 12" tall and painted with acrylics.
Cedar Walking Stick Face

I carved a face on a cedar walking stick while at the SyrupFestival. This was recorded in real time from start to finish.

Very very cool
Thanks!
Not sure if its meant to be but this is very relaxing.
I'm glad it is. Thanks for the input.
Hello from Springdale, Arkansas.. Love your videos. Keep up the amazing work and happy carving everyone.
Springdale is a nice area. Pretty up that way, I've been through there several times. Thanks for watching!
Hello from Springdale, Arkansas you made a nice video love your work. Happy carving everyone.
Well I commented too soon, love all the carvings!
Haha. Thanks!
I like the shirt ! I haven’t been to Branson yet, maybe on day. Beautiful carve !!! Love the Native carves .
I agree with you on the native carveings, still not sold on the shirt!
Very nice work! I like the look of the catalpa with that finish on it
@@BobCorcoran-x3w the grain does pop
Is the reference to Catalpa a Catalpa tree? If so, green catalpa branch?
It is a catalpa tree. This particular piece was several years dry.
Beautiful
@@jeffreybell4801 thank you!
Good video
thanks!
Hi Kevin, Thanks for the mention my friend! I'm going to mention this demonstration in the next episode of Wood Carving Weekly.
You're welcome!
Very interesting
As and amateur sculptor and former machinist apprentice, I really appreciate the help in maintaining accuracy when duplicating a shape. I've tried my hand at wood carving and had good results, but I didn't have a good way or duplicating something. Sculpting with polymer clays is pretty easy and low risk, so it would be great if I could just sculpt a shape then copy it in wood.
@@chrislee261 yes. Work out the details and placement before ruining a good piece of wood. I’m speaking from experience here.
I can't wait to see what creations you make !
Oh nice !!!!!!
@@AmyJo143 me too!
I enjoy watching your work, amazing how quickly something shapes, look forward to next update
@@NatureInspiredSnipsnSnaps thanks for watching! I enjoy seeing what takes shape.
Hahaha. Rootbeer sounds pretty good .
Been hot here too. Hopefully today will be nice weather ✌️
A little coolness would be appreciated.
Excellent work
Thanks
Well, this didn’t go as planned. I could carve a new one with less time and effort 😅
What is your etsy account?
@@JamesHeagle It should be listed now
I found it! I would love to have it but the shipping cost is way too much ! I don’t understand it because i ship carvings all the time and its never this expensive! Thank you for your time and effort! I must say that I am very disappointed!! 0:37
If there is any way to get the shipping cost down please let me know
I would be glad to send you a check before you make and ship the roughout if that would help regards James
Let me run it first to make sure there are no bad spots. Then I can also get the shipping costs. I hope to have it done by the end of next week.
Fun carve.
So far. I just wish there was more color to it.
Um abraço do Brasil, adoro seu trabalho, estou começando este lindo ofício e vc tem me ajudado
Thank you. Hope I can give you good information.
Also are you located very close to Georgia?
Thank you for getting back to me. I am still interested. Should we consider basswood?
Finally got the wood prices and they are high! Getting a solid piece that size cost more than I expected. For me to do a basswood rough out would be around $120 and butternut would be around $150. Plus shipping cost. Shipping to me was over $3 a board foot.
@@maloneartworks5912 thank you for letting me know. Yes i would like to do the butternut if you are still willing to do it. How can I get the final money amount to you ? Regards, James
I am still very interested in buying the butternut roughout from you
@@JamesHeagle I have the rough out finished. I will post it on Etsy and send you a link if that will work. That way you can see it and know what the shipping and total cost will be.
I was wondering if you were able to get the price on the wood for the Santa rough out . Regards, James
It's been one delay after another. The wood is supposed to be on the way and the invoice in with the wood. Should be soon. I hope. I know it's taking longer than it should. Sorry
Looks great
thanka
Thank you !
Have you had a chance to check the wood costs? Regards, James Heagle
He’s supposed to call me tomorrow. I’ve been waiting on him. Sorry
I have wood on the way. invoice will be in the box so, hopefully it will get here in the next few days. He said the butternut will have some worm holes more than likely but I was glad to find butternut that size. Thanks for your patience.
Shrinkflation. Sign of the times.
😂Even wood carvings
Thank you for checking! I really am open on wood type
I have really enjoyed your videos!! I would love to find a santa roughout about the same size as the one that you are working on. Any idea on where i might find one? Regards, Jim Heagle, Braselton Georgia
I can run one of these for you. What kind of wood would you want?
Basswood would be great! I dont think i can afford butternut!!!
But i sure love carving butternut !!!
@@JamesHeagle let me check on some prices and I’ll get back to you. I’ve had trouble finding the bigger pieces of wood lately.
Thank you very much for checking! I really am open on wood type !!!
I dislike the time lapse, much prefer real time with commentary as you work.
Thanks for the input. I'm leaning that way too. I try to explain as I go.
It's looking great but I think the bag is going to be too small it should be bigger
You could be right on that. I probably cut too much off because I had started with way too much excess. I got greedy with the removal.
Hey brother. Great work. I carve with a knife, I have done a few wood spirit type projects with so so results. I have been contemplating getting a set of gouges. Any suggestions? I mainly carve folk art pieces out of basswood but looking to branch out some. Thanks for the video. I will check out you work
I really like Pfeil Swiss made. Woodcraft carries them so they are usually readily available. I also have several Henry Taylor gouges.
@@maloneartworks5912 thanks for your reply. I have been working on a little farmer this evening. He might be a moonshiner, I don’t know yet. I will take a look at these brands
He is going to look so cool!!! ✌️
I hope so!
Absolutely beautiful
thank you
Now that's artistic craftsmanship. 👌
thank you
Looks fantastic, great skill at its finest.
Thank you!
Wow, really great work. Thanks for sharing!

Looks great but making it very early 😮
I’m slow lol. Have to start early so I can finish it in time for Christmas.
Awesome video! ✌️
@@AmyJo143 thanks!!

GOOD WORK, MUCHA PACIENCIA
Thanks. I can’t be in a hurry! Lol
Looks great I power carve wood spirit bird boxes I have tried with chisels it’s very hard but you make it look so easy ❤
Thanks. I learned with chisels and couldn’t master the power carving technique.
Real time for me please. But either is good.
Thanks for the input.
How do I buy one from you good sir!?!!
I have an Etsy store. Here’s a link. www.etsy.com/shop/MaloneArtWorks?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=1223569723&from_page=listing
