Hello & welcome to my channel!
I'm Adam, a railway enthusiast with a long-standing passion for heritage steam traction as well as a key interest in associated videography. This channel is dedicated to films of Britain's steam heritage, focusing on a variety of steam locomotive designs at work on heritage railways as well as on mainline excursions.
The channel's name serves to represent the region in which I am based; 85A being the shed allocation for Worcester & its sub-sheds during the days of BR steam. As such, my videos are primarily centred in former 'Western-Region' territory i.e. the West Midlands & the Cotswolds, although I strive to feature occasional forays to other regions too.
If you enjoy the results of my filming endeavours & would like to see more, please consider subscribing as this will ensure that you are kept up to date with future productions as & when they are released.
Kind regards,
Adam 🙂

GWR Pannier Tank No. 1369 on the Santa Special | Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway | 14/12/2024.
*Best viewed in 1080p HD*
The Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway would host their annual "Santa Special" workings during the winter of 2024, with three round trips traversing the 4-mile line on each running day in the run-up to Christmas. The choice of motive power for these operations was GWR 1366 0-6-0PT No. 1369, on hire to the C&PRR from the South Devon Railway for the festive season.
On the afternoon of 14th December, I headed over to a foot crossing in the village of Bledlow, where I'd reckoned to film the 'Pannier Tank' in charge of the 2:30pm "Santa Special". Here we see 1369 being slowed on the approach for a 5mph TSR over West Lane bridge; with a blast on its whistle for the cro...

Lovely ex Lms royal scot
I agree, nice shots. Built for South Wales coal traffic, I imagine the Forest of Dean is a good substitute with its grades and curves. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you kindly for watching Robert. I must say I've always had quite an interest in the GWR 5600s and their history; I've waited a very long time to see one in steam too, so I was thrilled when the opportunity to film 6695 arose. I'm very much in agreement about the forest setting, too! Kind regards, Adam 🙂
Two very good shots!
Thank you kindly for your feedback my good sir, I'm pleased I could finally get a 'Taffy Tank' on film; I've had the 56xx on my bucket list for quite a few years now, well worth the wait I'd say! Kind regards, Adam 🙂
Fabulous pan of 2807 on the freight - perfect light as well. Fantastic 👍
Thank you kindly for watching Kieran! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the shot of 2807; the panning movement itself was slightly tricky to perform there so I'm glad the effort paid off. My personal highlight was the two GWR 2-8-0s paired up (in matching liveries no less! 😃), although I'm really pleased with the sequence with 35006 running non-stop through Winchcombe with the goods too. Kind regards, Adam 🙂
I’m gonna catch up with that loco later because that loco is back with vintage trains for the first time in 5 years and that’s the Shakespeare express from Derby
Thanks for watching Scott. Aye, I'm pleased that 45596 is working with Vintage Trains again this year (she's also rostered on their "Blackpool Illuminations" trip in November, I believe); it's not looking likely that she'll get any work with WCRC any time soon sadly. Kind regards, Adam 🙂
Hell of a wheelslip at 1:36 lol, thanks for capturing, good to see 3850 back
Thank you kindly for watching! I must admit I missed seeing 3850 during its last ticket, so I'm pleased I was able to see it working fresh from overhaul. Aye, I'm glad I caught that wheelslip on film; highlight of the day, I'd reckon! Kind regards, Adam 🙂
Fantastic video! Keep up the great quality content and videos all around :)
Thank you for your kind feedback, greatly appreciated! I've got a fair few plans in store for the next few months, so I'll certainly try my best to deliver on those. Kind regards, Adam 🙂
@@85ASteam no worries! I’ll be there.

Thank you for your kind feedback, greatly appreciated! Kind regards, Adam 🙂 P.S. Apologies for the delayed reply!
Awesome clip! Lovely exhaust! Keep up the awesome work!
Thank you kindly Toby, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Aye, the 'Hall' put on a great display here, that exhaust was about the most impressive I've seen, I'd reckon! Kind regards, Adam 🙂
Think i was in the same place at the same time! 😂 great footage - 4930 sounding absolutely brilliant here
Thank you kindly Kieran, I'd rank this as one of the best I've seen this year (so far)! Great to see 4930 with matching GWR stock too; I'd looked forward to seeing that pairing for quite a while! I shall take a look at your video in due course too. Kind regards, Adam 🙂
Shame she failed later in the afternoon, but great shot here. Lovely little spot as well!
Cheers Kieran; I'd heard of 75069 being failed at Kidderminster, a shame indeed. I must say I'm growing to like the location too! Kind regards, Adam 🙂
Great video as per usual - wonderful to relive the gala as missing it already!!
Cheers for your feedback Kieran, I'm glad the effort I put into covering this event has paid off. Since the gala visitors are all rostered on regular diagrams during June, I'm may look at giving each some individual focus - I'll have to try and get some mileage behind 2999 & 6880 in due course too, I reckon! Kind regards, Adam 🙂
6:49 surely that must be it for taw valley now because we thought it had its last run during the winter gala
I came here on the Saturday and I’ve got the locos I wanted to see Adam check it out
Very nice indeed, if only they would have let the fives do the work though, definately great to see the pair again on the GB tour, even if only because they are not on the Jacobite, cheers . 👍🌝
Thank you most kindly Stephen, I'm pleased I was finally able to film one of the GB tours - I'd class the pairing of Ian Riley's 'Black 5's being an added bonus too! Aye, it'd have been great if they'd been given a chance to tackle the bank unassisted, but I'd say the pair still gave a decent show, in spite of the 47 assisting from the rear. Kind regards, Adam 🙂 P.S. I do apologise for the delay in replying, not up to my usual standards!
I caught that tour too Adam going backwards to Stratford at widney manor
A really good display of the Fives' power, well done! Regards, Dan
Thank you kindly for watching Dan, I'm pleased I was able to cover the 'GB XVI'; this was the first time I'd seen one of RYTC's 'Great Britain' trips. The Black 5s gave a cracking show up the 1 in 37 gradient, the 47's assistance from the rear didn't seem to detract too much. I'm very happy with the effectiveness of the low-level angle I utilised too. Kind regards, Adam 🙂
Great shot of them on this famous climb, Adam, many thanks for sharing this. The weather was spot on and the Spring feel to the video is lovely. I've never filmed on the Lickey - maybe one day! Many thanks, David.
Thank you kindly for your feedback David, I'm glad you enjoyed my perspective of the climb. I'm definitely in agreement with regards to weather conditions and I'm pleased I could achieve the Spring atmosphere too. The Lickey is a great location for steam charters, though getting there early is often key to securing a position - several of those present had been at Vigo since 5-6am! Kind regards, Adam 🙂
Great catch, of a great sight and sound! Seen pictures of the crowds there, so you did well to get a good spot. Subscribed to you too, Phil 👍😁
Thanks for watching Phil, I'm glad you enjoyed my brief coverage of the GB tour. Aye, I was indeed very lucky to secure this spot - two other photographers kindly allowed me to position between them, so it worked out in the end. Thank you kindly for subscribing too, greatly appreciated! 👍😁 Kind regards, Adam 🙂
Great Video I think you were positioned just in front of me. Regards James
Thank you kindly for that James, I was fortunate to have secured this position given the crowd - I'm glad the low-level shot worked as well as it did. For reference, I was positioned halfway along the metal gate, with my phone camera mounted on tripod the other side - I only wondered as your video looks like it was filmed slightly closer to the foot crossing itself? Kind regards, Adam 🙂
A great capture. Regards, John
Thank you kindly John, I'm glad I could achieve this shot - the low-level positioning worked quite nicely, I'd say. Kind regards, Adam 🙂
It’s been 8 years since these two last came down here
I caught that tour too Adam down at bowling green lane overbridge and they were absolutely hammering it
Thanks for watching Scott, I've just had a look at your video of the 'GB XVI' - brilliant shot, thumbs up given. Kind regards, Adam 🙂

Really good to see her on fine form. 🙂👍
Aye, I couldn't agree more - it's great to see 60532 back out after over two decades' absence, I highly look forward to its launch into mainline service in due course too. Thanks for watching, Adam 🙂
Great footage mate - missed seeing her climb Eardington but sounding fantastic here!
Thank you kindly for your feedback Kieran, I'm glad you enjoyed my coverage of these runs. I'd been anticipating news on 60532's visit for some time, so I'm glad to have finally had the opportunity to see it - even if the weather conditions were horrendous to be filming in at times! I shall of course take a look at your footage in short order too. Kind regards, Adam 🙂
The Severn valley railway is definitely new for blue Peter she’s never been here at all
And to my surprise she’s got an extended stay and she’s gonna be on display at Kidderminster for the spring gala before going out on the mainline back to Crewe
Thanks for watching Scott; aye, I heard they'd have 60532 on display during the gala weekend - and I understand that more test runs with the A2 may take place afterwards. Kind regards, Adam 🙂
@@85ASteamyes because they’re gonna send her back to Crewe where she will do a mainline test run just like western champion
I caught her on the 20th of march pulling flora the bubble car unit at Kidderminster and this is the first time I get to see her

Technically 7820 is a BR ( W) manor built in 1950 and the first of that batch of 10 built by BR ( WR) but a great video of her
Thank you kindly for watching David, I'm glad my first video coverage of 2024 is proving satisfactory. Aye, I understood 7820 as being the first of the BR-built examples, though I wrote GWR in the description in reference of where the design originated from. I have, however, altered that section slightly to acknowledge 'Dinmore' as being an Ex-GWR example, so hopefully that will suffice. Kind regards, Adam 🙂
I’m excited to tell you this One of the grange locos has come out of existence of 80 others that didn’t survived into preservation and she’s the 81st and a new build grange loco and that is coming to the Severn valley railway and she’s the third new build to come to the Severn valley railway after lady of legend the new build saint loco and tornado the first loco of the 21st century to be built to ever try out the Severn valley railway And that’s 6880 betton grange
Thanks for watching Scott. I must say I've been watching 6880's progress with great interest, it's been having its livery applied so evidently can't be far off now. Since it's already been pulled from two events thus far, I do hope it'll be ready in time for the SVR's spring gala; I've no doubt it'll be a crowd puller if so! I highly look forward to seeing it visit the GWSR, especially with 2999 also confirmed as visiting for their gala; fingers crossed we'll see both new builds double-heading during that weekend! Kind regards, Adam 🙂

Thank you most kindly for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed my take on 43106's final weekend in steam; she'll be sorely missed, I'm sure. Kind regards, Adam 🙂 P.S. Apologies for the horrendously delayed reply!
Brilliant shot, I caught this at Rifle Range. The Pig is certainly going out with a bang!
Thank you kindly for watching, I'm glad I was able to see 43106 during its final workings; I purposely went for the morning's run to Kidderminster in order to get it on the matching LMS rake. I quite agree on your point of 'going out with a bang' too, this was the most thrash & exhaust I've had from 43106, talk about a phenomenal display! I shall have a look at your video in due course, too. Kind regards, Adam T.
I was here too and I’ve caught the LMS stanier mogul in the 1990s guise of 2968 along with the last gala appearance for 43106 and 34027
Thank you for watching Scott, I've just had a look at your video; brilliant stuff! I'd have done wider coverage if not recovering from illness, but this shot will suffice; I'm glad I managed to get 43106 with a matching rake of coaches, at least! Kind regards, Adam T.
