    I have the 44. I have several daggers (my favorite style of knife) and the 44, is my favorite of them all. Also, I really, REALLY like the musical background you're using in your video!!! Patton happens to be one of my favorite military movies...

      @jorgefernandez6407 Thank you, my friend! The EK knives are special to me because of my grandfather who carried one through WWII. He served briefly w/Patton in Palermo, IT. I have to laugh, he called him an SOB, but an SOB that got things done! 😂 I also love that movie... Very accurate and true to historical accounts. You know, I saw a couple of boys from Norway, put the Rambo knife in a vise and completely destroyed it with a paintball gun. Pieces of the blade were chipping off like knapping flint! Be careful what you buy from Gil Hibben, if it's not off his website and doesn't cost almost a grand, it's a wall hanger. And if you buy from budk - beware. I did buy a Pakistani version though. Hardened spring steel, a few differences, but after this, I checked. One solid piece of steel, functional and about $100 cheaper.

    It's a great feeling of "money well spent" or even thinking an item is worth More than what you paid. That's how I feel about the Desert Nomad. The knife has a Jack Crain profile and an EK style handle. Pure simplicity, and all business. The sheath is a masterpiece and is ambidextrous, so on either hip you can carry blade forward or back. I totally agree with your ending statement. The one that gets on my everlasting nerve right now is MKC knives. They have a model that is a very small thin piece of 52100 steel that is skeletonized with a paracord wrap handle and they want almost $200 dollars for it, WTF? And people are buying it! First time visiting...Been into collecting for only two years, but lately I've been interested in vintage fixies. Last year I scored an early 70s USA made Browning 4018 for 5 bucks at a pawn shop.When I researched it I found that it was an early Gil Hibben design...Shortly after that I was given a 1991 Ontario 499 Survival knife for free. What’s so special about this knife?

    • @the.sharpestedge
      @the.sharpestedge 7 дней назад

      @@ThomasShue Thank you for asking, my friend. The first thing that makes this knife special is its designer, Robert Terzuola. He is a legend in the knife-making community. Almost every design he has ever created has been picked up by major knife manufacturers as part of their lines; folding, and fixed blade alike. Secondly, his CUDA and CQB1 was produced by Camillus, in both Japanese ATS34 and American 154CM... both excellent steels. Camillus is one of the oldest warfare cutlery companies still in operation today in the United States of America. Thirdly, his knives were chosen and used by Special Operations Communities such as SOCOM and MARSOC. They are the best of the best, and choose the best of the best gear for their services. ATS 34 and 154CM are both stainless steel types that are often used in knives and share many similar properties: Composition: ATS 34 is an ingot alloy that contains 14% chromium, making it corrosion resistant. 154CM contains chromium and molybdenum, which helps it produce a nice hand rubbed finish. Properties: Both ATS 34 and 154CM are known for their good edge holding and toughness. Lastly, the knife is the perfect size, shape, weight and construction for the most hostile of environments. My family overseas in the USMC carried them in RECON for years, and most of them still do along with their Ka-Bar fighting knife. They are truly an amazing, all around fighting knife preferred by professional troops around the globe. Robert Terzuola is still at work producing custom units for our Special Operations Troops to this day! If you can find one at a great price, I wholely recommend putting one in your hands either as a collector or EDC tool enthusiast. Thank you for your comment my friend and have a great weekend 😎 👍 🇺🇲

      I was fortunate to pick some of these back in the day when they were cheap… I picked up a blade show proto , several blade blanks , some were paracorded a ‘ works ‘ a unmarked that looks in between the two sizes … I also like picking up advertisements ( some in the military magazines). So there were serrated and non-serrated in both sizes. After the old Camillus closed: Meyerco produced these CQB s ( but sheath was bad /ill fitting). Meyerco didn’t etc or stamp into the steel but pad print ( paint) which often came off SO they ‘could be ‘ mistaken for a copy ( but it was a BOB approved ). Then there were some left over blade blanks sold with the parts to build the knives ( Blade kits) these were engraved with Bob’s signature . I think Blade kits sold those bout 6 years ago. Then lastly ; a very low number were produced by the late Darrell Ralph. (ddr)(company stamp on blade) (I believe how mine is marked) Yep there is web info on the military purchase orders. Amount , which branches ( been few years) forget where I saw it ,, i should have taken a picture . Some boxes are marked with a sticker designating military spec Oh yeah only old Camillus made the small version . ALSO ALL ABOVE WERE USA MADE! Yeah these are a favorite with me ,, been looking / purchasing these knives all these 20 ish years. I’m in Georgia now , but was from that neck of the woods , outside of Youngstown , left there in 79, been enjoying old chevy classics since,, no rust falling in my face . Working and owning on old cars have actually been pleasurable. And even family cars last 12 to 17 years ( and I can afford new ) I just like to maintain as a hobby . And we do a lot of cross country driving , one truck we had 385 , 000 miles when we sold it . It still was gorgeous underneath ( yeah I’m ‘that’ guy that washes under my vehicles once a year .)

      @just9911 Depends on what a person's preference is, my friend. For an individual who has limited funds, they may be perfect for them. For me, I have a collection of "Fabulous Fakes" which I use for 3 different purposes... 1 To show how good they are getting; 2 To warn the knife community about exactly how difficult they are becoming to spot, and 3 To demonstrate to knife makers and manufacturers that they need to seriously step up their game by streamlining production and labor costs. This will lower product costs on higher quality knives thus virtually making them no longer worth counterfeiting. US Knifemakers and manufacturers could easily fill this niche in the market by stopping production of their knives overseas; utilizing US Small Businesses to machine parts, heat treat and perform multiple other services at lower costs, and purchasing raw materials from existing US Steel Mills from the large scrap piles they currently have as waste. I own originals from every knife in my Fantastic Fakes collection, and I can honestly say, I often carry the fakes in environments that are less taxing on blades. I am happy to beat the crap out of a $40 copy much more than a $300 - $600 original. Love them or hate them... It is what it is and to each their own. Thank you for your comment and have a great evening 😎👍🇺🇲

    So many good points. One of them is the overpriced US knives. Well profit should be absolute maximum immediately isnt it? Then there is the sensible approach. Get a good product on the market that will make people happy and will be a brand ie. Big Mac. Now what happens when you realize that the 99.99% of cases basic steel will get your job done. Sharpening a knife is not so bad. So if you want to save the industry with a lack of proper revolutionary design you go for "high-end" steels. Quality they say. Just like Gore-tex rants about the waterproofness of 28000 mm, which does not mean anything. Get a garbage bag and pull it over yourself, you will have absolute waterproofness. When raining get into a shelter, etc. So you save a lot of money. Same with knives. Industry has to grow, and sell, sell, sell. The latest ZT model does not do what a 420 steel machete can do. But it will hold its edge 5x longer. Wow. So you pay premium because you cannot sharpen the knife once a week. I have many premium knives mind you. But I am not going to waste them. I have Ontario also, they cannot do a decent fit and finish. Then come Chinese replicas with decent quality and decent steel for a good price which you can try out and waste. The question is. Is it a problem that China sells fakes, or the problem is that they are too good and too cheap? If they are too good, why don't Ontario make a proper fit and finish to the Chimera? Why do we get surprised when a USA folding knife is centered perfectly? I have Chinese clones, and they are perfectly centered. This is the rule, not the exception. So I also read another dirty thing. USA imports Chinese junk knives and sells them for a high basic price, so that the local USA-made knives can be sold at a premium price?!!!! I think the biggest issue here is that the USA don't realize that China is a big superpower. Sure it was a weak country in the 80s. Now it produces everything. Just like Japan in the 80s. So if China wants to produce a space-technology knife, it will produce it cheaper than the USA. Why, because of the labour costs. Oh and USA got the copying issue wrong. Chinese copying is an honour trying to mimic the original with pride, and saying we made the same in China. And they sell it to the local population. But the good American price-conscious buyers and businesspeople realized that they can make a hell of a profit if they sell replicas. So they import replicas. So the fakes are gonna be there. Question is will you buy American or not. Anybody trying to mimic a big brand will try to make it good otherwise nobody will think it is worth buying. But there are M9 Bayonets which are fake and considered shit. Why? Because they are display models, not hard-use tree-splitting models. Same with collecting paintings. Go for the originals, right? So everything is just the decision of the Buyer. Who do you believe? Patriotism, or your purse? That is the sad reality.

      Well, and lengthy written, my friend. I have been trying to get the knife community and manufacturers to understand most of what you said for decades. Most steels will do exceptionally well over higher-end steels. Now, I have many early-year ONTARIO knives including the Chimera. All were sharp out of the box and perfectly fit, but in later years during the decline of the company, the quality did suffer unfortunately. Shortly thereafter, they closed. There is no reason why American Manufacturers cannot create a superior product for a reasonable price... but a lot of the time, union labor costs are just unreasonable as are executive salaries and corporate greed. This has been an issue ever since the emergence of unionized labor. Not to mention the corporate life of executive management and greed. I have many high-end knives from around the globe and enjoy almost every country's art. However, that being said, I have no respect for countries that counterfeit. Having no respect for international law or intellectual property is simply criminal. Copy/Clone/Replicate the knife without putting the original maker's mark on it... that is fine. Modify it to be your own even better. But counterfeits hurt everyone. Period. Thank you for your outstanding comment and have a great day 😎 👍 🇺🇲

      @the.sharpestedge 15 дней назад

      @sashaghovanlou8175 Both M390 and D2 steel are durable and wear-resistant, but D2 steel is especially resistant to chipping, cracking, and breaking. M390 retains its edge shape longer than other steels and can be sharpened thinner than other steels. D2 steel is often used for blanking, forming, and trimming dies, as well as gages, slitting cutters, and more. M390 is often used for rolls, punches, dies, shear knives, and food-processing knives. M390 is corrosion-resistant, tough, and can be hardened to a high level without breaking quickly. M390 is considered by many to be the best all-around knife steel and is widely used in higher-end knives; however, in the end... it depends on the end-user and case-specific usage of the blade which will inevitably determine the chosen steel/preference 😊

    I don't have a big problem with copies and clones. I hate counterfeits with a passion. I ordered a counterfeit Microtech just to see what 1/10th price copy would be like. There is nothing to indicate that it is not authentic. I could not tell if I didn't have quite a few Microtech products and saw pretty subtle signs. Edge not perfectly symmetrical. OTF blade play more than I would expect from a new Microtech. Incorrect fasteners. The price of course but if I had paid full price for it I might have been a lot slower to notice. I won't pay over $100 for a knife unless I get it from Blade HQ.
