D'Addario Nickel Wound vs D'Addario Pro Steels! (is there a difference in tone?)
Просмотров 26 тыс.7 лет назад
I decided to try some new strings, so when they arrived today I thought I would put together a comparison video. Both sets are 11's, however unlike the Nickel Wound set, the Pro Steels are not a balanced tension pack. The biggest difference I noticed straight was the difference in feel between the two sets, due to both the tension and coating. As for the tone, I feel there is a subtle differenc...

One 3 watt amp three solos! (Blackstar Fly 3)

Tiny amp with a huge sound!! Each sound was created at random, with no editing, and very little thought or effort put into finding the perfect tone. Which I guess just shows the potential of this amp. I was given this amp as a gift for Christmas from my girlfriend. Its an amazing little practice amp, perfect for people of all abilities, and for me will come in handy for teaching. This video too...

Aren't 11-50 for Eb tuning?
@Harzurner you can use them for whatever you want really. Whatever comfortable and works for you. I like a little extra tension for my bends. Something to fight against. But 10s are also fine. I have 11s on my acoustic too so bends on that feel pretty similar to my electrics.

Wouldn't the best comparison be with an ultra clean tone with a pick? The difference in these strings is mostly their brightness and fingerpicking really doesn't convey it.
☀️ "promosm"
COOL FINGERNAILS DUDE!
💅
What amp / pedals are you using ? Ha i just heard the end , git to fet a 6th chord in , give it the hanging vibe
Bravo !!!!!, this is the best "road" improv on You Tube 🎵🎵🎵🎸🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶🎸
woh, so nice sounds !
Loved it ..
Delicioso.
what a killer sound dude, fucking great!
Always use nickel imo but its personal preference really. I started on steel but realized nickel was more my tone.
Nickel wound 💪💪
the difference is only the wound strings, dont spend so much time on the top end
Prosteels all the way, mate!! Thank you for this awesome video :D
Great lively playing with a thrilling tone!
Nicely passionate and bright that really stirs one's emotions that inspires me as a guitarist and your melodic quality is wonderfully heartfelt!
Thank you so much, glad you like it 😊
Amazing! But this audio output is the real sound of the Amp? No post production, mixing or other Effects simulation?
Nice demo, thanks for that! Which did feel better to play to you? The difference in sound is minimal but the feel matters a lot.
Nickels seem to have a way better balance
Lovely playing, lovely tone, what is the guitar?
Thank you! Its a Fender 72' thinline tele
YOU Absolutely killed this bro 🔥🔥🔥
nice tone!
Can i ask something? What scale on this song? I want to practice and play it.
I'm playing it in D flat minor, I believe the original is in A flat minor.
Finally i found the guitar player on this song
I've been looking for this music for a long time since I heard it from a guitar player and your version is really beautiful, I like very much!
People keep comment on technicalities of your test, as long as the parameter is the same, it doesn't really matter to me, thats the basic of all test in this world. pro steel is brighter to me.
Agreed. It's funny that some seem to think this was a serious test. I decided to try a different set to my usual and had some fun with it while changing them. I still use nickel wound if that means anything to anyone.
Way to go man!
Which set feel like they have more tension?
Daddario shows the tension in standard tuning for a 25in neck, on the packages.
You look like the guy from clutch
i thought the difference would be more on the feel, were the pro steel would be more "flexible". but than u said is not balanced enough as the cheaper set?
I think he may have that backwards.
Amazing
Nice job
underrated, smooth as fuck
It's amazing that you changed your guitar strings 20 times in order to shoot this video ;-)
Actually He didn't :|
Lol...
@@grayveeacoustics how did he jump from set to set then?? facepalm
@@tiagogomes4114 no he didn't. He first used one string gauge to record all the riffs together then restrung to record with the other gauge and later edited them side by side ....so he only changed strings once Facepalm
@@chhanda5475 we got a xerlok homls here. It was sarcasm.
Killer! Your tone is so smooth. What Amp are you using?
for that, play single note very slowly without any effect
J Higelin I see where you are coming from, and that would be an interesting comparison I should have included. However, nobody plays guitar like that.
@@LiamMacLeanMusic The point is to eliminate as many possible sources of sonic differences as possible so that one can have an accurate comparison.
Yes. Bravo. Modern concept, you have to put your feelings in every part you play, does not matter it is not the original, otherwise it is going to be just a copy-paste.
Wow !
Can you share any tabs :D?
Great!!! Thanks!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👏👏👏👏
Awesome👌
good job,underrated!
kOo1dZ thank you!
Was just about to type the same thing.
How do you record the guitar?
Nick Wolf I usually just hang an SM57 from the amp. There is a bit of bleed since I'm not wearing headphone but it's not that bad, I can get away with it for RUclips videos.
Great style by the way! I love the thinline!
A Guthrie cover too, haha love it! Well done :) This one will get the ladies wanting ya ;)
Well done! Nice tone. And your solo was pristine! One of my faves off of this album. What is the 4th chord in the chorus? Steven is my fucking hero!
metalqueen17 thank you! Glad you like it! The 4th chord is a Bb. That’s how I played it anyway, no idea if that’s what Steven plays!
hey.nice playing! noticed you mic the amp. since backing track is playing there, wouldnt there be any microphone bleed? coz from what i see, you are not using any earphones.
RipperAF thank you! There was some bleed but nothing major. The amp is loud enough to overpower the speakers, and it still gives you a very good idea of how the little guy sounds.
Liam MacLean thanks man! I recently bought the fly and it is awesome! Currently looking at a proper way to record using it.
Yeah its a fantastic wee amp! I would just mic it up, although it does have an output so maybe that would work better, I've never tried it for recording although it does sound great through my speakers.
I've followed you in all of ur accounts after listening to this beautiful cover 🙏✨
Maybe you recorded at 44.100 or 48.000 Hz, so it's hard to hear any difference. I've got to set my recordings to 88.400 or more, to hear the split of my humbucker...
your ears can't hear above 48.000 Hz.. it's useless to record in any higher Hz. Plus, your DAW has an extra struggle with recording and it's much heavier sources 48.000 Hz is good for movies soundtracks 44.100 Hz is an default for CD and radio
Even though we can't hear above 25KHz on average as humans, recording at higher sample rates can show an increase in sympathetic resonance and harmonics that wouldn't have been heard in lower rate recordings. Downsampling conversion to 44.1KHz kinda kills the point of that, though. +Margolins, with your logic we shouldn't record at anything under 96KHz sample rate as we basically halve the sample rate to find the frequency response of the recordings. 44.1KHz works because we typically can't hear above 20KHz very well and that gets us an effective accurate frequency response (not counting hardware limitations like mics and such) up to 22.05KHz which is ample enough to cover the most important sensitivity ranges of our hearing.
@@ChangoFrett You need to read up on how digital sampling works. Anything below half the sample rate can be captured perfectly. Large-scale research has demonstrated that humans cannot differentiate between a high-resolution recording and a CD quality reproduction of it. drewdaniels.com/audible.pdf
