Some stolen moments. Every now and then trying to think of nothing else, just this ship and myself...
What started as a hobby as a child (making plastic model boats at my grandfather's shipyard) has always remained a pleasure. Steadily building a fleet of wooden sailing ships. Each plank is manually sawn, sanded, nailed & glued, painted and varnished, without using too much tools. The rigging knotted one by one.
In my shipyard: HMS Victory (2003 - 2011), Yacht D'Oro (2012 - 2014), HMS Beagle (2014 - 2016), Wasa (jan. 2017 - april 2022) & Santa Maria (may 2022 - june 2023).

Hour 0: diary of the construction of "Santa Maria" from Occre. Introduction & unboxing.
I started a new adventure that I would like to share step by step. Last year, I built the Santa Maria for the first time (from Amati). Currently, I'm building the San Felipe from Occre and saw that the also released the Santa Maria. However, with a different view than this one by Amati. So, I'm curious... Hence, I'd like to build this version as well.
I'll be working on this additional project in 1-hour shifts so that I can fully chart the building process. Hopefully, I will have as much fun making this ship as all the previous ones before...

Placing and installing the gun carriages on deck. Not entirely historically correct due to a lack of space & scale issues. The breeching lines (inner lines) are attached to ring bolts on the bulwarks and are wrickled to the rear of the cannon.
