I know what you mean about V8s they are very nice, I have a Daimler 8 (Jaguar X308). That is a very nice car lol. What got me into cars and especially classics was my earliest memory, My dad selling his Hillman Avenger and being inconsolable lol. I always said I wanted to have one, and now have 3!! I've had about 30 of these. I've also had the 130sri camando..
Loved my old vectra b I had in the past. I don't care what anyone says it's a great handling performance car
Compared to my old 1.8 non vvt Astra H, the SEH in the Cav (with PMC's 'roadster' kit) used less on a run, but it was always the traffic light Grand Prix when the rev counter seemed to push the fuel gauge down😁 I'm of an age to recall fuel hitting an outrageous 50p per litre, and was happy with around 35mpg plodding to work and back. That's better than my old Insignia which was thirsty, seemingly demanding a gallon every time you blinked - I think it hit the magic 30 MPG once, downhill on the M5.
thats quite respectful mpg for that car, buy yeah it depends where and how you drive it
@@vincentmoran3252 yeh exactly. I used to only get the same from 1.2 Corsas, when I had them and only slightly better from petrol Fabias with the 1.2 TSi My Astra Twintop, with a much more modern, 1.8 VVT engine, struggles to to 28mpg!!!

@ yeh, problem with the twintop, it’s heavy and to get the most out of the 1.8, you have to really work it hard! The 1.6 is even worse! Absolutely terrible on fuel!
@@R1CH130 i had a 1.6 also it was slow and not good on fuel yup
@@vincentmoran3252 yeh, back when I sold Vauxhalls new, in 2007 to 2009, one of my colleagues had a 1.6 Twintop as his company car. He said the fuel bills were crippling him! 25mpg if he was lucky! I would have gone for a Turbo, but refuse to pay the stupid tax! Orwin is bad enough, at over £360 or whatever it is now. I know it’s about £30 per month! I’ve found before that often, a car with a larger engine can actually be better on fuel. My Vectra GSi is better on fuel than the Astra, with its 2.5 V6, because it’s just so torquey
Much better than I get out of my D. 31mpg
Yeh, he’s miles better than the Astra, which was always around 28 average!
Amazing to see that start so easily after a year of not running! Always give my manual choked bikes full choke to start and let them warm up for a few mins before adjusting the choke 😁 These older cars are pure gold🤩
@@dt125guy7 Thanks for the comment. Yeh and not bad considering it’s been off the road for many years too! Amazingly, this is the only car in my collection, with a Carb, as the rest are all fuel injected!
@@R1CH130 Yeah not many cars with carbs around now - had a Nova with weber carbs yrs ago and wish I still had it. It was never a chore driving that😋 Quite a few older bikes with carbs and actually prefer them - easily to work on, fewer electronics to go wrong and better than the older auto chokes that stick or don't come on properly when its cold! Definitely keep those in your collection as only going up in value - love the Astra van vid and Nova 🤩
@@dt125guy7 yeh, two of my old Novas had carbs. I had a 1.3 SR engine in one, with a Weber DTML to replace the usual Pierburg. The Manta has the same Weber, which is miles better than the standard one with auto-choke that always fails! My first car was a mk3 Cortina with the 2.0 Pinto. The auto choke failed on that too and my Dad converted it to manual. The last car I had with a choke, was that 1.3 Nova, which was back in about 1999, which shows how long ago it was! I’ve had Injected cars ever since, until the Manta!
@@R1CH130 That's so surreal - same here - 1.3 SR with Weber. Really liked that car and if only we had kept those in the garage they would be worth something now😁
@@dt125guy7 Yeh, mine was an Antibes special edition in red, with matching red interior and carpet! The original 1.2’s head gasket went and blew a hole in a water core plug. I like the fuel pump! good to see a proper disklok too
@@vx.calibre2901 yeh, it’s probably overkill, that fuel pump lol Way more powerful than it needs to be and could actually be part of the problem, giving too much fuel pressure! I’m going to try a normal Calibra/Cavalier pump and see if it’s better. The car suffered with fuel starvation in the past, with a previous owner, so they fitted this high power pump to try to sort it. That wasn’t the issue though! It was the fuel tank made for a carbed engine, without a swirl pot! Doh 🤣
@@R1CH130 all part of the fun. Some say😁
she looks really solid, take her back to stock!
Nah, I don’t do stock! I’ve always had modified and customised cars and something unique. This would take way too much work as it used to be red for a start! It would also need the trans tunnel turning back to standard too, so a lot of work. Thanks for the comment though 😀
I’d keep it and restore it as there pretty rare cars now and you might regret parting with it bruv.
Yeh, you could well be right. I have ways wanted one, it’s just I have so many projects and so little time!
Very cool, didnt think she was going at first. Shame about the rev counter... Inspired me to put air in the tyres, and connect the battery charger on my old rot box. I'd say that's progress😆
@@vx.calibre2901 any progress is progress! Little bits at a time, all add up! That’s what I’m trying to do. Bit here, bit there.
How long does it usually take to start on freezing cold mornings? How much choke does it need?
@@robinprice4877 I’m not sure tbh, this was with maximum choke, but that maybe one reason why it took a while! I’ll try with half choke next time, as I may have gone ott! It’s absolutely years, like more than 2 decades since I last had a car with a choke lol
@@R1CH130 Thanks for your reply. Would love to see more cold start videos. I had one of these about ten years ago. Always parked outside. In January covered in snow I tried it for 10 mins on full choke and it wouldn't start. Charged battery. Next day it took about 5 mins to start on half choke. Next day it started second attempt on quarter choke but I had to pull choke out to half to set off.
@@robinprice4877 My first car was a 1977 Cortina and that was a pain to start with the manual choke, but the auto choke had completely failed, so we converted it to manual.
