Sarabande for Strings (live)
Sarabande for Strings and Guitar, taken from the Cantate (2019) performance.
Posing as an instrumental interlude in the midst of a one hour piece, the Sarabande takes us back to the Baroque. Its sad B minor theme can really be felt as winter, but in the middle the piece resorts to D major and the sun comes through.
Enjoy!

In the variations you can hear the sadness and grief, as well as the memories of their pupil-mentorship and friendship. Musical setting of Frjemde Kusten (Strange Shores) - a poem by Frisian genius author and performer Tsjebbe Hettinga (1949-2013). During my New York studies I fell in love with his poetry and his vocal performances. I decided to write music to them. It was premiered and recorded by the Colori Ensemble in 2018, on Aliud Records. aliudrecords.com/product/evasio/

Chopin Raindrop Prelude

In memory of my dear grandpapa, who lived to be 98. I performed this famous Prelude by Chopin at the funeral ceremony. It is called Raindrop, but in the middle part the ostinato turns into a sombre marche funèbre. Recorded by: Marcel Kieffer MCL Auditorium Leeuwarden
Steppenwolf Prologue (piano performance)

"Steppenwolf" was my first major music drama, composed for the three performing arts schools within New School, in 2016 (Jazz, Mannes, Drama). It is a two act music drama based on Hermann Hesse's timeless novel. The collage of photos compiles the work of photographer Erika Kapin, from the student premiere performance in May 2016, with a cast of actors and singer, as well as dancers from the Mar...
Organ Fantasy "A Study in Light and Darkness"
Просмотров 454 месяца назад
Composition for church organ, written for the Carl Orff Competition 2019. The competition required two musical quotes to be included: one from Orff's "De temporum fine comoedia" and the other from Mozart's Fantasy in C minor. Exploring the rich tapestries of light and of darkness, this Fantasy quickly alters moods. Its quest is to find the light both outside, in nature, and within, in ourselves...

Trio Bartholomeus (New York premiere)
Просмотров 1176 месяцев назад
I wrote Trio Bartholomeus, my first classical chamber work, back in 2014-2015. Using the traditional violin, cello, piano it became a deeply personal (and spiritual) piece. It started off with a simple first page, which I showed to my mentor. Myself, I didn't think much of it. But he exclaimed: "This is some piece! What is it about?" I explained the origin of my French last name, the Hugenots, ...

Mozart's slow movement from the tenth Piano Sonata. It was the first Sonata I learned thoroughly, at Dr. Ronn Yedidia's New York Piano Academy. Back in 2012. A year later I performed the slow movement at my grandma's funeral. Ever since, the piece has remained very dear to me. This recording is from 2017. Enjoy!
Mozart on shabby old piano
Просмотров 626 месяцев назад
Mozart is nowadays often presented under the best conditions, big concert halls, opera houses, Steinway pianos and Stradivarius violins... But did you know some of his best works were written in the private realm of his own violin and fortepiano? The fortepiano sounds not so perfect at all, and yet the heavenly music of his genius still shines through. I recorded this piece on my own childhood ...

Thanks for noticing! Yes, its motive is derived from Chopin’s First Ballade in G Minor. (Though in my Waltz the resolution to G Minor is constantly delayed and lands on a soft Eb major instead.) The ending of the Waltz likewise shows similarities to the Ballade. I highly recommend Alfred Cortot’s version. An old recording can be found on RUclips. Thanks so much for listening! 🎶☀️🌈
