Probably one of the best mid-size dual-sport bikes of the mid 1980's, and only bettered by the later Suzuki DR350 SE's of the 1990's and early 2000's. Really wish someone would come out with a larger air-cooled off-road/trail bike like the old XR400R for today's market. Something simple that's air-cooled with e-start and fuel injection. Basically a bigger displacement version of the current Honda CRF250F or Kawasaki's KLX230R that you could throw a lighting kit on to make street legal if you wanted to. Sadly I don't see that happening any time soon. There's a reason these older 350-400cc bikes still hold their value so well after all these years.

Yes good, warts and all opinions. Some people spend 15 minutes on video ripping into KTM over a horn falling ! I just got a new 23 model on run-out deal for a good price, awesome machine so far But all these videos have me waiting for the first failure. I’ve got a Ktm 350 , 690 and have had at least 6 x 300 ‘s with never having an issue. Hoping the 890 keeps that run going !

I daily rode one just like yours for 2 years, back in the 80's and put 45,000 mostly trouble free miles. Covered every dirt road in my county at least twice. I'm still looking for another XL350R No DR will ever do.

Actually trying to pick up this very model. Love it. Had a 75 350XL In highschool, it was my first mode of transportation to get back and forth to work and school. dang i loved that first taste of mobile freedom. I was 17.

Watching you kickstart that bike reminded me why I rode 2 strokes until 4 strokes were e start and fuel injected, lol. Nice looking rebuild though.

I had a 1985 XR 100 as a kid. Loved that bike.

I had a 1984 xr350r! Ive also owned every jap bike and KTM under the sun. The XR350r is still considered the best bike ive ever owned!!

The power is so much more gentle than modern bikes. Makes it more fun in a different way.

Cool bike , ive owned every XR from 75 cc to 650 , but not the 350 😊 test rode one but couldn't make the trade

seat cover looks correct. # plates & fenders all are perfect. Are they original ??. even the skid plate is factory. ..... I miss my 85 XR 200

Have to say the bike went quite far dont worry the heads of the bike will protect it from going in to deep

The epitome of “all the gear and no idea” BMW are the masters of marketing. These bikes are a comfortable way to go around the world, but by no means the best - way too limited by their weight.

Mine also starts alright. Occasionally I let it go through the full cycle. Do you find it necessary to do the full cycle every time you start it, or was it enough to do the double full cycle once to recalibrate, or something?

got hammered with rain couple weeks ago, was on the last road in the video during the storm and it turned into a river. Never seen rain fall so hard through the trees

Right on you finally got it running again! I just recently had to redo my valve seats on my XL, they got chipped going down the street one day. Got it all back together with 190 psi and it runs amazing my bike is actually the 8th result on google images when you search "1984 honda xl350r" if you ever wanna see it

What skid plate you running brother

Your problem is actually low fuel pressure. Either blocked breather or fuel prefilter is varnished from using fuel with ethonol in. My wife's 890 was the same. Found that the bike started better with the tank open. Checked fuel pressure at start. Too low. Prefilter was gummed up. Bike was better but then was about as bad as yours. Figured that one of the injectors was a bit gummed up so needed more pressure to work. Ran injector cleaner in the fuel for a bit. Even better but still not 100%. Blasted the injectors clean with injector cleaner. NOW perfect. Only run both of our 890s on 0% ethanol fuels. No more issues

It’s cool you were able to try it but a bike like this one should be tested offroad 😕. Maybe next time they will let you.
