excelente entrevista!
I have a nice, solid package that will last for hundreds of years
great stuff!
these philosophies are so important for people to see. myself included. awesome they are so well documented
In de gedaante van de volkomenheid verandert de klaarblijkelijkheid door reorganisatie van de componenten.
jeetje, zo is het maar net
De parabelen kunnen de illusie niet zuiveren.
Hello it’s me alarik you know me I’m peters son
Hey Alarik! 👋🏻

❤❤❤
Nice
I met Steve in Manchester in ‘86 when Big Black played the Archway Club with Head Of David. Both bands were amazing, but Big Black came out top! I recorded both bands and they sound great!
The great legend in bolga ❤
There is nothing impossible for you, the forever best of kologo no comparison
I had a chance to meet and study with Steve. It was many years ago taking classes at a local - Chicago - trade school, Music Industry Workshop. I recall my impression that he was one of the 'nice guys' in the business. Smart, Knowledgeable, intelligent. I regret not spending more time and getting to know him more. DaveJ
How high were these camera operators 😵💫
Lekkerrr!
This is an incredible video. Thank you for capturing and producing this content from Steve. Brilliant, wise, and flexible for the future of music. I'm inspired and also excited.
Rock seriously lost one of its best advocates when Steve moved on to realistic guy who sees things in a cool way and is true to the artform heaven
1:54 that lemonade stand anology his hilarious
Glad the camera man fought through that bout of Parkinson’s.
Son unos durooos!!!
I like Steve but my goodness his constant moralizing is tedious. You’re making silly rock songs my dude. Stop taking yourself so seriously.
this would be like me taking a movie like the godfather and then editing my name in over every person in the credits and then selling it lol
Dude sounds like a real jackass. Btw who tf told this guy blacksmiths only shod horses? Lots of jobs for a blacksmith
This is good advice as a matter of pragmatism and adaptation, but it misses the point that the industry adapts too in its quest to take everything for itself and cut artists short-intellectual property rights, though in need of reform, are a critical means of protecting musicians’ income. If a giant company is gonna use my song for their TV show, I deserve a cut, because of the insane resources it takes to actually make the music in the first place. What Steve Albini ironically missed here despite his political inclinations is that the less ways artists have to make money, the more that people with wealth are privileged to make art and the more those without are disprivileged. One of the good things about the old system was that anybody could start a band and have a chance to be elevated if the right people hear them. Now you can get heard by anyone, but there’s nothing that allows you to continue to make your art. No income, no art.
like air for a plane I cannot complain
riding a trash down the mountain
We need more people like Steve Albini, missing him already 🖤
Watch what people do, not what they say. In our current system, there is nothing stopping anyone from offering their work for free, to be used however the world sees fit. Why didn't Albini offer his own music open source? Why did he instead copyright (with all rights reserved) his entire catalogue, for profit?
RIP you precious
Relatively uninformed fan here. This was a lovely production & conversation. Informative, occasionally hilarious, even teary - the bits about record storeS brings back so many fine memories of fantastic store clerks everywhere sharing with customers. Thanks bands, stores, clerks, musicians, Albini et al for all the great stuff. What’s life without it? Rest in peace brother. Kerosene!
is this guy the zizek of audio engineers?
No, he's the Steve Albini of audio : )
*zooms in on booger hanging from nose*
important stuff!
What in the world is going on with Stalker Cam?! Bizarre in the extreme. I'm sure it freaks your guests out. I sincerely hope you've stopped doing that by now.
at 0:27 AI will take that over quickly
u r dum
Didn't think anyone would pick up on that. It has already begun. Musicians/Producers have to change their business model as soon as possible.
Booger close-up is dope
Rip steve
Unfortunately its gotten harder still since this interview but the love of music will keep us fighting the good fight. RIP Steve
Steve was rich regardless, Electrical Audio is worth millions of dollars and he always had bands from all over the world. He was probably the cheapest worldclass engineer available but still charged 900$ a day before studio time.
No one said he was effing poor but he wasn't a millionare either. Also how do you even know his worth net😂
@@Brokenface If you charge 900$ a day for your services in your studio and 1300$ if they take you somewhere else and you're booked everyday with months in advance what are you? Have you even seen his studio? It's worldclass, major label worthy. But I'm pretty sure it must be super expensive to run.
He did damn well but $900 a day isn't far off from trade wage. He had periods where he struggled, running a business like Electrical is very expensive.
$900 a day is close to operating cost for a constantly in demand studio, mostly labor. steve famously took to playing professional poker to support the studio. got pretty damn good at it from what i heard. i hardly doubt the man was considerably wealthy. he worked his ass off every damn day. no time for spoils in that way of living, aside from making the occasional record for yourself. not a bad life, all considered
@@normaleehi he also had staff, I'm sure the upkeep was super expensive too.
Very insightful. GREAT interview.
The purpose of intellectual property is to ensure artists and creators have the ambition to create and benefit society. Without this there’s no more making a living as an artist. I agree with his perspective in relation to the current state of the music industry, yet it’s absurd to say there’s no need for intellectual property laws. It’s fundamental to creative’s ambition to create. It’s like a natural law of society.
Agree 100% If there is an audience for what I love to organically compose, then I should be able to own it and exploit it for profit. The opportunity to make a living at what you love is in and of itself inspiration to others as much as the music. In a perfect world, everyone would be able to find a unique way to profit from their passions, which would also address the problem with the industry that he's talking about. Easier said than done.
no one said steve wasnt a cunt
The obvious answer is that you won’t make a living solely on the arts. It’s no loss to anyone except the ego of the entitled. It doesn’t mean the arts disappear.
This is a fantastic interview, but why did the editor decide to have so many extreme closeups? Like, I don' need to see every single hair on Steve's face...
Hello Otis. I am married to Steve Albini. Thank you for making such a thoughtful and informed tribute. It means more to me than you can imagine. You should; check out Robbie Fulks entire catalogue. In particular Let’s Kill Saturday Night, Couples In Trouble, Georgia Hard & his tribute to Michael Jackson. The song “God ISn’t Real” may be the reason he isn’t better known. Or “F**ck This Town” about Nashville. Also fun fact: Robbie taught Tina Fey guitar!
I love this. Robbie Fulks is amazing. Not surprised to discover this connection between Steve and Robbie.
Regrets, sympathies Miss. Thanks for your comment.
Terribly sorry for your loss
Sorry to hear about your dear husband he meant the world to me and clearly allot of other ppl. I’m working w Jack in Seattle and was planning on making a trip out to Chicago to record with Steve when I heard the news .. my condolences 💐
The handy cam footage is really fucking this up :(
He said it all ❤
Guitar sounds cool,
Albini is one of the best theorists of IP.
Albini taught us how to create music as a believer. He’s like the Charles Manson of nerds.
Albini was always worth listening to.
Bat in the cave!
RIP. 😪😪😪
