Place the research station near pod is a very interesting trick, this may save some time at the beginning. I broke the food bin to avoid my dupes wasting time to fill it. Actually, the fact is the whole run is determined by the researcher's ability to pilot rockets. You'll notice at the end (1h43), that I give more unnecessary research works. Well on the priorities, I may do differently. All is not on 9, all wide plants or others popping tasks for example are not. And there is not so much time to save on that imo considering the point above. But yes, I definitely can do better. I'd love to see others post on speedrun com ;)

You're right... this particular challenge is bound by the time it takes to train 7 skill points into your rocket pilot. Unfortunately, that makes it a much less interesting challenge, because even extreme optimization from this point would result in ridiculously small gains. It might be possible to get a dupe with interests in research, operating, and suit wearing to 7 skill points a *tiny* bit faster than you did, but the margin is miniscule; probably on the order of seconds, rather than minutes. I could see a duplicant starting with a needed skill point cutting the time a bit (for example, I've had dupes start with Exosuit Training or Field Research). It's probably possible to beat your time by 3 minutes or so... but then trying to get the perfect starting dupe might fall afoul of the "exaggerated dupe selection" rule and disqualify the run anyway. Congratulations on your world record!

@@TheOriginalTim I agree. When I started to run the vanilla categories, first I thought all the tasks to prepare the rocket launch (steel above all) were more time consuming than gain 7 skill points. But, unfortunately for the challenge, this is not the case. Finally the challenge was more to find a good map and have an efficient task management. However, I would advice you to check the 2 Spaced Out categories as the challenge is more like what you expected. About dupe selection, I just reset after something like 50 tries or 2 minutes. I remember it could take 20 resets with no luck, but it cannot be considered as a limitation. It's more comfortable for all to avoid 30 minutes of selection screen :)

Well I'd say there are 2 main goals leading to the end of the run : have enough steel to build the rocket, and have a duplicant with the rocket piloting skill. For the first one, I know the map as it is a set seed, so I know how many lime/iron/refined carbon I need (including the steel I can colllect by destroying the doors in existing structures). For the second goal, there is some different stretegies, but I think mine is satisfying enough : select a dupe with exosuit wearing skill at the start, then make him the main researcher of the colony (in order to increase its skill points as fast as possible). The rest is quite common : have a sustainable base with oxygen, food and also keep duplicant in a good mood to allow them to unlock new skill. Honestly I had a list for the first runs mainly for lime and iron needs, but after a couple of runs, I didn't need it anymore. Good luck !

@@gigabitsounds Actually, everything is NOT priorized to 9 (for example wild plants are 5 by default and I also reduce unused machines to 1) It avoids to have errands like that. So why 9 and not 6 ? It's just because it's more graphical as 6 has a color very close to 5. To be said also, 9 is not the max priority but the yellow alert is. Anyway you surely right a 8 or 7 will be better for micro-management if that is what you meant.

So fast I presume.... That's a tough stuff. You need to mash Left Right and be fast and mostly regular. With dogs, you also need to have a good start and jump just when the last dog touch the fence. GL

Hey thx. Im happy to hear that! There is not really strat that is not directly visible in the video. After several tries, you will improve your skill and understand the ways to better control movement's character. For the 2 bigs glitches (2:30 and 22:28), just look and train, that's not so hard to do. Anyway, for more explanation, you can watch @Techstrobe streams on twitch. He kept like 17 hours of stream...
