    Was the skin crispy? I can't seem to get crispy skin on my turkeys with this fryer. It comes out cooked and juicy but always with rubbery skin.

    • @hooksBBQ
      @hooksBBQ Месяц назад

      I wouldn’t call the skin crispy either, but the meat turned out really good. I’d probably try making sure the skin was really dry and maybe let it sit open in the fridge for a few hours to try getting the skin a bit crispier once you fry it, although I’m not sure you would get a nice crispy skin without breading it and then frying it

    I have bought 2 brand new out the box Masterbuilt turkey fryers and tried to use them on 2 separate occasions and both times the cooking vessel leaked oil and made a mess, I believe that they leaked from the drain spout area. Not satisfied at all…

    • @hooksBBQ
      @hooksBBQ Месяц назад

      You are right for sure, but I still won’t be using it inside with a turkey. Once the turkey went it, definitely gets things smoking and sizzling which I’d just rather have outside personally

  • @imobannon
    @imobannon Месяц назад

    I have fried turkeys for 10 years. Always outside until last year, when I bought this electric. Love it. And as far as the Tony Chachere's... I use 2 bottles for one 14-16lb bird, plus the powder. Go crazy. The stuff is awesome and every bite of even the white meat will be juicy. Poke that sucker with the needle 20 times, lol. Walmart sells a meat injection needle for about $5. It is more durable and will last.

    • @hooksBBQ
      @hooksBBQ Месяц назад

      The injectable butter definitely made my Thanksgiving turkey super juicy, nothing was dry. Will definitely be using it again next year!

    I bought the BGE minimax as my first komodo style cooker a week or two ago as my first komodo style cooker. I am really having fun with it. Have done steaks on direct heat, and slow cooks on country style pork ribs using indirect heat. On a few occasions I was wishing I had a bigger grill grate, but for most everything that I am cooking for my wife and I fits on this grill. Love the ability to control the temps compaired to a treager pellet grill. Once you get the ceramic heated up, control the vent positions, you can dial the temp down and it does a great job holding it. I have had my MiniMax for a week, and have cooked 6 times on it and I am amazed on how well it works. I watch youtube videos from the FOGO channel, thats the type a charcoal I am using, and lots of other videos featuring the Komodo Joe JR. Most of the info from the Komodo Joe JR also applies to the MiniMax. I would get a larger BGE so I could use the Komodo Joe rotisserie, and also the Komodo Do pizza attachments along with the slow roller for the smoking. The MiniMax is my first komodo style cooker, and I am impressed with it along with the amount of information out on RUclips for using them. I am sure that I will upgrade to a bigger one at some point.

      Awesome, I started with an XL and then for a MiniMax, and also have a large too now. MiniMax is super convenient though!

  • @alexjennings2178
    @alexjennings2178 4 месяца назад

    Did a butt on the mini max a few weeks ago and I think one issue may be the fire going out before the butt finishes. CRAWLED to get to 195. But I think if I had just added some more coal at the wrap stage, i would have been fine. Great review.

    • @hooksBBQ
      @hooksBBQ 4 месяца назад

      I can definitely see it taking a reload of lump for a long cook! Smart to add lump while you wrapped, probably wouldn’t have made it if you didn’t wrap and add charcoal! I only use mine for high heat grilling since I have an XL I prefer to use for smoking since it’s huge and holds a ton of charcoal (and it helps me justify keeping it since I use my minimax for most of my grilling🤣)

    My minimax sits on three bricks on an old chopping block. The heat deflector is an absolute Must or else it is just a griller. But with it, it’s very versatile. It is economical on charcoal compared to larger steel BBQs.

      I’m not sure if you did anything wrong. Are you thinking it was overcooked at that temp? A chuck roast is quite a bit smaller than a large pork butt, and 275 is decently higher than 225 when your desired end goal is around 200-205 degrees internal temp. How did it turn out?
