pastel may be my next favorite medium....viewing your sketching followed with the color application was a great educational video, very detailed layers...THANK YOU! do you have any recommendation on what paper TYPE or substrate to use for pastel animal portraits???
HI Sandra, Pastelmat is my favorite for realistic work, especially with animals. Depending on your own style, if you were a little looser you might prefer a sanded surface like Art Spectrum Colourfix, or Uart which has different grits , may be a 400. OR even creating your own textured surface, with a medium.

I use sandpaper as well .
HI Darren, I have on occasion also, but am quite confident in getting the point I am after just with a knife. My husband Michael uses sandpaper all the time. Its a personal thing and whatever works is great.
