Splitting hickory on the homemade log splitter! #001
Shit. I just cleaned mine a last week and did the main ports but didn’t get the bar ports. Thanks for the tip!
Well, since I know i'm going to go out and buy one a chainsaw
Better than power washing with water, is using a jet from an airline. The dirt is mixed with oil and comes straight off.
@@hiscifi2986 I agree. personally I’d never use water. Only compressed air if anything. I just manually rake it out with a little wire tool I have.
Every week i take them t25 screws out and remove the plastic cover arpund the clutch. So much dirt gets in thete and heats up the flywheel
@@Treeclimberadrenaline I bet, I’m a hobbyist firewood guy so you probably put a ton of hours on a saw! I was very surprised how people buy saws and never sharpen the chain or do regular basic maintenance.
This is excellent advice. It would suck to overheat or jam up your bar and chain.
@@LengthyProcess thanks for watching!
I have honestly never heard this. Thank you.
@@markseabourne827 I plan on doing a mini series on chainsaw tips, running saws, safety and maintenance. Stay tuned, and thanks for watching!
Same
Reminds me of when I was a kid. My father always brought me into the garage when he was working and taught me everything I needed to be able to work with my hands. 40 years later and I still enjoy spending time with him working in that garage.
I hope that’s exactly how my son feels one day. The time spent and the lessons learned are invaluable. Thanks for watching.

@@CrystalBUGS you got it! Gotta keep these kids outside and off the screens!! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Non chain saw ppl just don’t get this ! Great vid
@@vic2796 it’s so important! I take for granted that people have been taught this until I post a video and they think the bar is on backwards 🤦♂️
Siberian elm is good wood and burns great! I am currently mixing it in my bags👍👍
@@outdoorsinthe608 I agree Jeremiah, I know it gets a bad rap from the tough splitting, but this stuff (albeit on the smaller side) split easier than some hickory I’ve had lately. Besides, who doesn’t love a good challenge every once in a while. Thanks for watching!
How heavy is that piece :0
@@allfraydoh great question! I usually use Omni calculators “log weight calculator” this is ash. 30 inches in diameter 16 inches in length. After entering the species, and size the log weight calculator is saying 307.6 lbs! Definitely no where near heavy as oak. Thank god it was a perfect circle 🤣
Why are log splitters so satisfying to use
It’s an addiction reallly I can do this for hours on end
There a sweet little lady in Canada who would've used an axe to take care of that log.
@@Rkenton48 send her my way.
Nice log splitter!
@@williamcrabtree5272 thank you! That splitter has split many cord of wood! I just upgraded a couple months ago to a commercial unit but this thing was the backbone of my setup for years!
@@FoothillsFirewood Well, she does enjoy swinging an axe, but she's not into other people swing their axes, if you get my drift.
Holzhausen is a part of Germany near Osnabrück ❤i am living there....meets and greets from Deutschland
@@tibor6601 thanks for watching! I appreciate your comment.
Thx,God blees you
Who uses black walnut for firewood???
@@Kenneth-tz4sx me and anyone else who received loads of black walnut cut by tree services that mills won’t take due to rot etc. I mill them when I can, but often times I get loads of logs that are already bucked up. They make way better furniture than firewood, that’s for sure!
It's not that interesting,...
Good tip sir🔥🪵🇺🇸

New Sub! Wish I could get any Cherry around me in Minnesota. Great looking Wolfe Ridge.
@@AroundTheYard-MN thanks for being here!!! I wish I was getting Minnesota temperatures right now. 100 degrees with 100% humidity is liable to kill me before I get to enjoy any of this cherry 🤣

Thanks for watching!
Hi brother..ive done this maneuver before aa well lol..then always get my youngest son to throw a wedge shaped chunk of wood alongside the logg as i roll it...i see u were alone ??....Hi from Arkansas i liked an Sub'd
@@jamesdavidson9626 yeah often times my son will be out there with me but he’s so young that I wouldn’t want him messing under a log this size!
@@FoothillsFirewood agreed then
Love this so much! Thsnks for letting us see..hi from Arkansas
@@jamesdavidson9626 thank you for the kind words! Stay tuned and I’m going to do an in depth video on the traditions of the Holzhausen as well as my process building it!
👍👍👍
Gotta love that stringy hickory!!👍👍
Between that and this heat, I’ve been taking a beating 🤣 but I’m always thrilled to get hickory in the wood yard!
Yeah if ur in the wood business u wouldnt run a saw dressed like that and ud be using a peavy
Yeah for anyone seeing this comment- I don’t recommend running a saw without your chaps! I’m guilty of it when it’s 100+ degrees out here but it only takes one time!
Invest in a peavy, that's a can't hook wrong tool
This isn’t a can’t hook it’s just a simple “pickaroon” or in this case it’s a fiskars brand “hookaroon” definitely NOT the right tool for the job. I want to get a log ox forestry tool so I can buck completely off the ground, but not looking to spend 300 bucks right now
@@FoothillsFirewood funny called them can't hooks in the lumber mill I worked in for 6 yrs
@@anvil529 yeah a cant hook and a peavy are almost the same thing a cant hook just usually has little teeth. This is just a hook that stabs in pretty far to the log so you wouldn’t want to use it on someone’s cant….. then again it didn’t stab in far enough this time 🤣
What a pointless video
Made better by a pointless comment.
No rest for that engine. Jeez 😅
Just like me, it’ll rest when it dies 🤣
@@FoothillsFirewood fair enough 👌 👏
Your great at your work
Stabbed himself?
No stab- just a fall and roll. I’ve have taken that pick to the leg though… more than once 🥴
@@FoothillsFirewood brutal 😧
Yeah you’d be rich but glad your ok
Are you ok
I’m all good. If I had 10 dollars for every time that’s happened I would be able to afford a log ox or a can’t hook lol.
Keep cuttin' Britt, i like it!
Yes sir! Just saw your video on the farmers market. I just Llc’d my gig!
Music dont go with splitting wood, Its kinda odd
I won’t quit my day job 🤣
Cool
That lawn is a waste of time and treasure.

Nicely done. My turn in a few days with Sycamore 😉👍
I got lucky and got a straight pole with little to know crotches so it made it relatively easy. Glad I wasn’t hand splitting, good luck!
