If the Americans could attack Tokyo so soon after declaring war, what was coming after the "sleeping giant" fully recovered from Pearl Harbor? I honestly love the way Lt. Ring is portrayed. They always portray the educated, inexperienced ROTC graduate as a dumbass and a loser, but he feels like a really complex character. Clearly inexperienced but tries his hardest to lead by example while also taking Gunny’s advice and taking responsibility for his men in multiple scenes to protect Highway and his men from punishment from bs bureaucracy. As inexperienced as he is he is humble and actually jumps in and does everything with his men. He’s such a fun character to watch

5:18 always drove me, my dad, and my brothers nuts. Each of us in the theater always agreed "Fire! Fire! Fire!" should've been the appropriate response to seeing the alien still moving. The storyteller in me understands why this decision was made though, you needed to show that the aliens themselves were dying of the microbial presence on Earth, and for the story that Spielberg had displayed thus far it wouldn't be as uplifting to see a National Guardsman executing what could be considered dying enemy combatant, in the same way that a non-grandstanding "Clear!" might provide.
