I love near Palmer never been . Hilly.😅
Like this track or don’t like this track…..it will make you better on every other track. There is so much going on and so much to learn from this crazy track. It gave me a migraine, but after it I was better on the bigger tracks because of it.
I was in the camo wrapped 944 turbo, great racing with you man!
Sp3 right? You too!
@ yeah! It’s just an E car as it sits now. Hope to have some more SP3 go-fast parts this time next year!
nice driving!
Looks like Mike quickly got up to speed in your car. I've been tracking my stock 991.1 Carrera S for a few years now and am looking to move to a fully caged car. I'm thinking a GTB1 style Cayman is the right direction for cost, safety and a slight lap time improvement. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the platform and would be curious to hear what you would look for in a build.
The Cayman is a great platform. A variation of driving technique in the break zone as it can be trailed quite a bit harder and longer than the 911 platform. I'd first decide which gen platform you are most interested in. 987.2 or 981 would be my suggestion as 987.1 are fun but not as competitive as they used to be from a racing standpoint. 981 chassis is going to be a bit better being newer, but it also has aluminum composite/alloy material which means risk for more expensive damage. Find something that's already competitive and talk to some of the top shops, wherever the car is situated. It's a small community so the top level shops know each other and can tell you about the builds.
@@tbsports5658 I'm inclined to go for a 981 chassis. I'm guessing the PDK and ABS are a bit better than the 987 platform. What sort of damage issues have you seen from the 981 chassis? One thing I've heard of is the front shock strut tower breaking with a hard impact of curbing or pot hole.
Nice. Looked really smooth. My best is a 2:07.09 in my GR86.
As a c6 goes blasting by lol, good lap tho

@@Streak986 facts 😜
You put up some great lap times with this car. I'm looking to buy a 987 for track events at Summit and Dominion so I was combing through your videos, but I couldn't find a mod list. What was done to this car?
Thanks. I assume you found the race videos with this car. It’s an H class car in pca club racing. Allowed mods are in the rule book which can be found online. Obviously the car is stripped and caged. But aside from that, standard cayman s motor with factory tune and factory 6 speed. 2-way MCS suspension is the big change and race exhaust. Factory brakes, etc. Really not a ton of mods allowed on “letter class” cars.
@@tbsports5658 awesome thank you for taking the time to respond!
@@OpticalToxinanytime. If you have more questions lmk
@@tbsports5658 Since you're offering, how serious is the oil starvation issue on these cars? From what I've read, the 987.1 has it, and Porsche did some modifications to fix it on the 987.2, but they didn't fully solve it like they could have done with a dry sump system. I am looking into the deeper oil pan kits but nothing out there that really does what a dry sump system would do. The dry sump retrofit into these cars is something like $10k. Really took that for granted on my C6 Corvette.
@@OpticalToxinon the 987.1, I’d consider it serious for race cars and aggressive track use. I know too many people needing new motors on the 987.1 s. This car had a rebuilt motor when I bought it and needed another not long into its life. There are more experts if you join the spec cayman fb group who can share more. I decided not to go for spec cayman class due to this risk. Racing spec boxster now. Even if those go, they are way less expensive. I would definitely not spend 10k on some retrofit kit as I’ve yet to see anything actually effective in our racing circles. It’s looking like the best option is a manuf refurb from Porsche which is not cheap. 987.2 is another story. Those motors are pretty much like the 981 and we haven’t seen huge issues there.
Is that spec cayman class?
I'm in a Spec Boxster.
@@tbsports5658 awesome driving!

Nice lap for sure, loved watching that.
Amazing
Fantastic lap. Excellent video.
Nice laps!
How are the Goodyear Supercar 3's vs the Cup2s?
GY have a stiffer sidewall. Wear was about the same, 6 days. GY need a heat cycle to grip up but once they do I really liked them, maybe a touch more than the cup2. I really liked the feel of leaning on the GY with the stiffer side wall.
Corvettes.
what catalyst track config did you choose? south and east never worked for me. no vid, could not save, etc. maybe sequence of selection, Drive, etc?
Hey Dan. I did use the "south and east" config. It worked first time out. Although I think if you've used it for a different option, I think it might not work at which point you need to configure a new track. Not ideal.
Nearly identical to the real deal! Good handling of turns 3 through 6

Nice laps! How did you do the center mono wiper?
Thanks. Lots of traffic but it’s a busy de at the glen! I bought it that way but you just remove the nut and recenter the right wiper to the center position.
Nice driving! What other cars have you had on track? How do you compare the 981 GT4 to others?
This was my first track car that I owned. Had taken out a 992 s at Barber and audi r8 v10 at COTA but those were in my very early days. I have an 06 Cayman S race car and they are similar in lap times. The GT4 seems so refined. Very fast. Race car is lively and raw and loud, similar weight balance as you would expect but you find grip through the tires and suspension to get the same pace out of a much less powerful car.
Thanks for the info the GT4 seems so balanced and stable through the corners. I run a 991.1 GT3 on the track and love it but I’m looking forward to feeling the GT4 to compare.
@@GT3Driver150 It is very balanced. Can be pushed pretty safely compared to older rear engine 911s but pretty different characteristics to drive it "fast". GT4 is a touch understeery until you push. You can get snap oversteer from 911 or cayman platform but harder to do it in the cayman.
Great lap!
Yikes, all the effort into quali just for a silly crash like that xD
I was thinking afterwards what’s the point of publishing this🤣 I jump from race to race so while I had the pace to lead I didn’t qualify as well as I could’ve which always makes for trouble mid pack…
You're welcome! ;-)

Now put it all together. Nice driving.
Nice job showing the Cayman line! What tires and pads?
Thanks. These were Cup2 and Ferodo DS3.12 pads.
Great video and voice over. Thank you for posting. I'm driving a 981 GT4 at Thunderbolt in a couple days and this is very helpful.
Good luck and have fun. Let me know how it goes.
No record braking here :)))
Not when you can’t see😜
100% driver induced. Look at your steering position going into the inner loop as you crest the first curb. Your steering should be straight at that point. Once the the car settles back down after that first curb, you make your turn to the left, but not before. You are also still trailing brake at that point, which is fine but there are only so many things your front tires can do at once. For Turn 8, you have two steering inputs, at first a gradual turn in and then more steering as you realize that you are missing the apex. After that second input, you lose traction because you are overdriving the front tires. Overall, the car seems to be handling well.
Thanks Frank. I agree. This was the more or less the first full day with the car and I was struggling to get comfortable with it. I realized after the fact that the tires were massively flat spotted from an ice pedal and then lock up moment the weekend before. No wonder it felt like my teeth were going to fall out... The left front brake pad was completely worn while the left front looked hardly used. They were basically brand new coming into the day. Didn't trust the tires. First time heel toeing. Ultimately, lots of things going on here, some of which are specific to the driver and others driver induced due to lack of trust and the car just behaving differently than I'm used to coming off a street GT4. Lots of excuses but bottom line is I have some work to do.
BTW, the brake trace is not the actual brake trace. I need to work that out. Curious your feedback, the car felt very unsettled over curbs and non-compliant which made me very tentative. I've watched closely other videos through the bus stop and most had some steering angle going in but it really felt like over those curbs I needed to wait a long time for the car to make sure all 4 are down before applying throttle. Could be again, lack of trust.
@@TamerBowling That explains a lot. Thanks for that perspective!
I don’t like this. What are you feeling? A new set of tires will go a long way to determining what the actual eff is going on.
yup, not a great session. At least every session is a learning, regardless of how bad it is. New tires are here so that should help.
I just realized you went off road right at the end??????? Why how?
I got this issue known as ice pedal. It’s an algorithm in the abs that when it thinks all 4 are sliding, it limits braking to 25%. So the pedal just felt like a brick all of a sudden and no real braking power. Was a scary moment. Apparently it’s a known issue with this and some other cars. You basically have to learn how to apply the brake a little differently. Need an initial squeeze and then hard. Can’t slam the brake, which I didn’t think I was doing anyway. Annoying way to learn a new car but better that there wasn’t a wall in front of me…
@@tbsports5658 holy fuck that is really scary man I wouldn’t be able to drive the car after that I saw something was wrong and you weren’t braking that’s why I asked. I would look in to how to get it fixed. At this point might as well disconnect ABS and drive without it I don’t know what to tell you just WOW
@@IgorekGQ it was definitely sketchy and gave me little confidence this past weekend at the glen. There are a couple of tricks to reduce the risk. We programmed the system to think I have pccb which is supposed to help. Yaw sensor ultimately is the think that feeds the abs signal so I’m gonna get it checked out to see if it’s disconnected with the tc switch off.
Can’t fully disable the abs without a bunch of other things getting f’d up.
@@tbsports5658 yeah I know exactly what you are talking about. Tesla Has Open Diff and the way the ABS system works on the Model 3 Performance is flawless no one ever achieved even close to what Tesla did with open Diff.
Cool what was your best time ever on the North?

It’s a short track after all 😉. Haven’t done any other configurations yet as it was first time at pocono ever.
