Myth-Busting Rod Bolts and Rod Re-Sizing
not anything thing to the tribute to the military display, you missed a few unique cars
There were SO many cool and unique cars and displays, I unfortunately couldn't cover everything in the video. The Toyota there was probably the only import in the show (well, there was a VW too). Some displays were too busy, and I planned to come back later to shoot them, but sometimes that didn't happen. That show really needs to be 3 days to see everything properly.
Huge fan of muscle cars. I was 17 in '72. Great video. Some gorgeous rides for sure. Love the colours. Be safe and stay well.
"Cool!!" So much to take in...sensory overload!
Thanks for sharing.
5 years later 600hp ls still together plastic gauged bearing clearance was still good.🤷 Stock to arp bolts
Just found this channel, nice car, great job on the video as well. Can I ask how much duration you were running with the stocker cam
If I remember right, it was 252/264 at .050".
@@The_Performance_Laboratory that's getting up there! Were you running the stock ECU with that
@@professorianniagaracollege1054 Stock ECU, initially with a Crane Interceptor, then custom chip (by Mike Wesley), then with a TwEECer since 2001.
You've either got measurements or you've got an opinion - great perspective to take and I really appreciate the time taken to make this video - thank you!
tbh most of the vid was messing around with opening, and then the filter wasn't stretched out. Dude is nice, but gets into tldr territory
Well. My factory bolts have made it 55 years. Recon I’ll leave ‘em. Hone it. Bearing it. Ring it. Ship it. 😂
The ford spec are for a passenger car engine wrong application
excellent video thanks your procedure was great and now I have a plan
Interesting hearing your buddy Jiminy in the background!! Apologies George. Don't hear someone complain often when a job goes more smoothly then expected. But I understand the dis-appointment nonetheless, Look forward to more. Be safe and stay well.
What was the carb and intake off of? Did you run the carb numbers? Jw. Also I gave your channel a mention on a fellow Canadian gear heads channel awhile back- Golds Garage.
@@shawnbins203 intake is 6263753, I30 71 casting date, so a 1972 application. Carb is 7043202, O153 date, so a 1973 350 auto truck.
Ahhh. I was wondering what application would have came with a “CA” secondary rod…. Seems odd that your 427 (I think) would be rich IF those rods came off a 73 turd 350 application.
@@shawnbins203 I was surprised how rich it was too. Maybe the bigger engine pulls harder on the fuel?
maybe?? I would think once you’re into the secondaries- it’s drawing pretty hard no matter what. Keep up the cool videos. I still have at least two Qjets to build
If it doesn't break, try, try and try again!! Great video. Thanks for sharing. Lots of good memories for me of drag racing back in the mid-70s. Look forward to more. Be safe and stay well.
Sweet car, where’s the rest of spp?
Thanks. Not sure why the SPP stopped making videos.
Eddey, are you twisting that right 1/4 quarter panel some more, tire spin you are at gimli,, 😅
"We choose to do this." 😂
Great coverage of drag n drive life, I especially like the in car shots.
Another great video! I always appreciate your insight and perspective. Thanks for letting us into the car for the runs. NYS-GTO
Some more great MofM footage. Follow 780 Speed & Custom. Watching you race the GTO reminds me of racing my old Chevelle. Launching a 4-speed properly is an art....in my opinion. The yard sale process you refer to is the 'beauty' of a drag and drive event. Would have been fun to do an event like this back when I had my Chevelle. Back in the day a friend of mine had access to to '69 New Yorker. We used to put 2 couples in the trunk, pump up the air bags, and pay for 2 couples to get 4 couples into the drive-in. I think we were the reason our local drive-in used to start checking the trunk when you paid your admission. Great memories. Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad to see you and the car made it back home in one piece. Look forward to finding out more about the noise in the GTO. Be safe and stay well.
wow, nice to see your goat in action
Great to see you racing at Mayhem this year and hope to see your 5.0 racing again sometime soon. Great channel Ed!
Yes, yes. The Monolith!
Do you have a Jerico in the GTO? Loved the video by the way. Congrats on the finish.
@@tenthousanddays2103 G101 G-Force trans. Thanks much.
DUDE...MET U AT TRACK ON SUNDAY, WIT THE ORANGE ELCAMINO..HEARD U HAD A CHANNEL SO IM SUBSCRIBED
Thanks. Love your car!
What piece of history! Congrats, Beautiful Notch.💪
Did you use anti seize on the bolts?
You know... I can't remember. I hope so...
Only on ford . Because I just installed a set of arp in my vortec 5.7 chevy and I had no destortion.
What if you only put standard new rod bolts? Do you still need resizing the bore?
If everything is within spec to start with, then stock bolts with stock torque should not cause any further distortion that would require a resize.
How many ugga duggas in a 10th?
Now after having the big end resized. Is it necessary to go with a “larger” OD bearing?
No. Cap surfaces are machined first, then it's machined round back to spec.
Ive only built two sbc 350's my machinist did the new bolts and resizing. If i was installing new bearings and wanted to replace the rod bolts with new ones, would there be any alignment issues between the rod and cap? Or does the process of installing and torquing force the parts to align? Great demo and explanation. 👍
Some rods use dowels, but for most rods, the caps register on the bolts for alignment, so it's important to resize the rods with the new bolts at the correct torque.
Nice coupe! What was the et that car ran?
It varied depending on the altitude, class, category and race vs street setups. Anywhere from mid 11s to mid 12s.
@UCypGHIShGxcuMIjJ89s7SCg That’s really good for stockish car!
When I switched from stock Toyota rod (stock torque) bolts to ARP (spec stretch) and what do you know the big ends had to be resized. Small price to pay for the added clamping force the stronger ARP bolts. Stock bottom end - why waste money on ARP?
If the rules require stock rods....
Blah blah work on the car
If you use the same torgue, then there should be no differance am I right?
There still could be a dimensional difference (thread friction could be different), but likely a lot less. But then you don't get the added clamping force advantage, so...
Really nice work on that starter repair. Love the step-by-step content. Look forward to more. Be safe and stay well.
Good to see that your battery leads have been converted to top posts. I've done similar to mine, combining a shut off switch for convenience. The side post batteries are an unnecessary struggle in that tight space. Look forward to seeing more.
Nice it a stick ? you could push started it !! looks good Ed you take to track to see how fast it goes ? no word on what happen to SPPTV ?
Of course it's a stick. No idea why SPPTV don't post videos anymore.
Doesn't sound stock to me.
Some people collect stamps.....
Going to have to watch this again with my dyno graph out and spread sheet open!
Keep it up!
Cars... Building them, working on them, driving them, tuning them, drag racing them, breaking them, improving them, dragging them, breaking them, fixing them.... It's all interesting no matter the make. Keep doing what you want to do.
What engine and horsepower??
467 stroker, 525 HP.
Still going strong I see. 10000 rpm with your hair on fire! Oh wait...
I do like the Mustang(s), but follow because all the topics are interesting. And the videos are always done well. Fond memories those '69 Vettes. First year of the new body style. Back when big=block and 4-speed was king. Older brother of my best friend owned one and it was a blast tearing around in it. Looked identical to yours. Look forward to more on this sweet ride. Be safe and stay well.
That thing is awesome
nice clean ride, but personally Ed, the Epic gets the thumbs up from me...
The ending made me laugh for sure. Cool car
Geez mate, you have great taste! A Viva GT AND a C3 Corvette! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it, and great to see the Viva still lurking in the background.
