On September 21, 1924, at about 4:30 PM in the afternoon, and F4 tornado ripped through the downtown of Three Lakes, leaving a path of destruction remarkable enough for national newspaper coverage. Remarkably, only one death resulted from the storm in Three Lakes. However, the storm was part of a massive system that began as far south as Clark County and wreaked havoc all the way up through Forest County.
On September 21, 2024, members of the community of Three Lakes gathered to take a historic walk down Superior Street to view the storm's aftermath with the Three Lakes Historical Society and to learn about modern tornado forecasting from WJFW chief meteorologist Geoff Weller.
