Very good job, i have one that needs attention
Hey Marty do you think the damage was caused by the original tune on the radio or was it because I talk too much?
I actually diagnosed this problem correctly doing research on the web. When I dropped the radio off I told Marty it might be the AM voltage regulator. I am not a tech by any means. Thanks again Marty.
Love to see homebrew amps living on.
This is designed to put equal outputs to. Dual antennas
Isn't that supposed to be used on a dual mobile antenna system? Is the cophasing done inside the amp allowing you to run standard 50 ohm coax instead of 75 ohm like in a cophase harness?. If so then you should have hooked up two meters and two dummy loads. Half your power there is being dumped into a "no load" situation. Not so good for the radio or the transistor in the amp.
What's the green tube thing there on your bench? I'm starting a bench and I want one of those ;)
That is a main part of any bench ;)
thats a nice looking radio
Can you do some work to help out us poor boys in NC ?
I still have mine but haven't ran it awhile. Takes up alot of room in the floorboard lol
thanks Marty From Steve AKA 00 BuckShot longview Wa,
How can I contact you my friend ?
What did you need?
Audio is distorted
I really like the looks of these old DAK radios.
Short but sweet, Those DAKs can be a tuff repair. The meter lights and their glue... 😵💫
Sounds like your audio is too hot. 73
Sexiest radio ever made.
Nice too see that working. I don't have a Facebook account, but will find a way to reach out to ya. Stay safe, Bump Bump.
Also love the look of all the pride eequipt i have a 100a but it had that tell tale smoke smell and i see one little resister in the back circuit causing swr issue but it still was put out so right now it is in storage for later day and picked lup a hi driv 250 which in low will hit 200 a.ll day long
Its like replacing spark plugs replace 2 out of 8 you end up repl 10 total later those two and the 6 you didnt 1st time
have you ever put a cobra 29 inside a Dak radio
No not yet.
do you know anything about a cinch plug being put on a tube amp
No.
*YOU TALK ABOUT THE (ALC CONNECTION) ...ON THE AMP* and *YOUR **#RADIO** MUST HAVE ONE ..!!* *BUT BE CARE FULL ..(IF HEATKIIT) .. VOLT TO HIGH ..* *IS A LOT ABOUT IT... JUST "GOOGLE" (ALC /AMP)*
have you ever did a cinch plug on a tube amp
The things we do a, I remember cutting the grass and I'm only 13 , stood on the cable it came out of the plug, thinking balls I'm going to be told off, tried to put it back with the electricity still on, two somersaults later, wow it literally stuck to my hand. Never again, ALAN CT26 . 48/70. 73. 🍻☠️💯👍
I died messing with the tube amplifier back in 2003.
In the early `70`s, a guy known as Sandpiper on the radio in Tampa was fooling around with a big amp. His little finger hit something and it arced out his shoe to the terrazo floor. He lost his finger and was never right again. All sorts of problems. He died within the year. RIP Glenn. I never forgot that.
man log trucker got lucky!!! damnnn..i hate ac shit. 1700v's...insane.
I learned my lesson at 14 when I tried to pull the rectifier tube out of a running TV set.
had one like that found hv secondary was short of turns and replaced transformer and every thing was ok
If you keep a careful watch on the meters, especially in current mode, that can be quite diagnostic. It may have helped diagnose the tube arcing over...
It's not the voltage that gets you it's the current. Be careful, boys and girls!
How exactly does one ‘MARS mod’ a linear amplifier? 🤣🤣🤣
Every linear is different some you just cut a wire.
@@martynone8937 ohh. Then, you mean a 10/12 meter mod. A MARS mod is something completely different that is done to a rig itself to open transmit outside of the amateur bands.
It's already a metal rod, covered with heatshrink tubing.
Was that recorded with a flip phone? But seriously, I admire you old timers still working on that old stuff. Kids, listen to your elders. Thumbs up for you good sir.
1400W? 🤔 That'll kill a 3-500z fairly quickly! 😱
whoops! ask old six 7, jeff about that, back in the day he was messing with a D&A phantom 500, reached in while keyed down....... he went flying across the room and met the wall on the other side real fast!..... hope to see you guys at the mud duck break
😂😂
That piece of shit should be scrapped immediately....There is alot more danger than the B+ on that thing
Yep. I replaced a tube in a palomar 250 back in the early 80's, the tube wasn't the same diameter at the top and the connecting wire kept popping off. I reached in once to push it back on with my fingertip and it burned a white spot on the end of my finger. Bzzzt! That learned me.
did you sell it ??
yes
id like to have one of them .. i just got the 2040
nice
Sorry bout' your arm. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
pull the tube then try again...dont kill yourself...hv ant a joke..419 in boston...lol you did this right as i was watching you do it haha.
no filament choke on these?
