Danelectro DC 3 Leap Year Ode to Beck
I miss Jeff Beck so much - so many things he could do. Tone is what always drew me in even deeper into his genius playing technique. This tune is just some notes that came along in an attempt to get a fluid flow going from my head to my fingers. It's common for guitars to come and go for anyone who plays; that's been the case with me. Still, this Danelectro DC-3 that I happened upon some 15 years ago is my favorite. Super light, fantastic tone and pickup permutations with the "Select-O-Matic" rotary knob! Using DR Pure Blues 10 - 46 strings. Amp is the 15 watt MOOER White Hornet modeling amp (a 30 watt is also made). It's sister amp, the Black Hornet, has different models simulated than o...

Yamaha FG-110 Open Tune (Drop D)

Brief demo of this wonderful guitar - it IS for sale. It is 53 years old and was recently gone over completely by a master luthier. Both the neck and the bridge were reset, three frets were replaced and a complete setup was done as well. I already have enough guitars and I need the space.

Nerve injury in my right thumb calls for it to be in a "spica" splint for 4 to 6 weeks, 24/7, I was able to adapt a bit. Still kind of crude. Amp is brand new Fender Pro Jr. 15 watt all tube amp. Effects used were MXR Stereo Chorus and Wampler Ethereal Echo/Reverb. Strings are 11 - 50 phosphor bronze 80/20 super long lasting strings by DR. Guitar is so well set up to my door I haven't felt itch...

Just acquired this gem, still getting used to it - I've had it for two weeks or so. This is straight out of the box - no setup, nothing. Amazing build quality, exceptional attention to detail of finish, wonderful action. Small lightweight gig bag included. Two AA batteries power on board electronics, to include a simple to use tuner, volume and tone - that's it. Spinal surgery in July made me u...

Stretching out the fingers on my Danelectro DC-3 using an open tuning (drop D) with fresh Ernie Ball "Skinny Top & Heavy Bottom" strings ,52 - 10's, played through the VOX AC10C1 amp. What is that blackish discoloration on the wood? Is the color fading?

    • @thepirate5955
      @thepirate5955 11 месяцев назад

      Oh heavens no - that's just part of the original koa wood grain that was caught in that particular slice of wood to construct the laminate. In fact, if you look closely, you can see that the dark pattern on the top half of the guitar has a mirror image on the bottom half since it was from the same piece of wood, but it's not so obvious because of the single cutaway on the bottom. Quite unique, one of a kind - precisely why I didn't opt for the black version.

      @@thepirate5955 oh i see. That's so unique. When i went to the yamaha website i noticed that the natural color doesn't have these dark patterns so i was wondering whether you have a bad copy or it was the original color. Btw, im planning to buy an apxt2ew also.

      Do it! You will be pleasantly surprised. I have had mine for right at three years and I have had to make ONE (1) single adjustment on the truss rod in all that time - it was about 1/8 of a turn on the rod to get it perfect. The guitar holds tune very, very well. I would recommend a small amp, as it is a small guitar and does not have the projection of a full size guitar. One affordable amp I would recommend is a MOOER Hornet 15 watt model - they're about $100, give or take. (www.mooeraudio.com/product/Hornet--52.html) It is a modeling amp, including one for acoustic guitars, is portable and has a 6.5 inch speaker, which is surprisingly loud (I replaced the speaker with an 8" Weber guitar amp speaker). Play on !

      I got mine yesterday but i chose the Light Amber Burst color. On the Yamaha website it was the least attractive color for me but when i saw it in person i fell in love with it in an instant! The size and weight of the guitar is just right for me and it sounds great when plugged to an amplifier! Im so happy!

      Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate you taking the time, glad you like the sounds. Everything I play is my own, I don't do covers and I daresay I can play along to virtually any tune since I play by ear. Started when I was 14 - I'll be 70 in November. As far as I am concerned, it's all about tone, whatever it takes. Thanks again. Tony V.

      @@tanyushmusic So if you're in Russia, I do believe you can get the same guitar from a wonderful source & distributor on the European continent. Here is the link for that specific guitar (red sunburst, not natural like mine): www.thomannmusic.com/yamaha_apx_t2_dark_red_burst.htm?ref=prod_variations_311348_3 I purchased my guitar from Reverb dot Com here in the USA, but I have bought from Thomann before and I highly recommend you take a look at their site. The specific effects from my guitar were as follows: I was first plugged into a MXR Stereo chorus pedal, then through my Wampler Ethereal Reverb & Delay pedal, then into the Fender Pro Jr. all tube amp. So I used two pedals, but three effects. Hope that helps! Play on.

      @@thepirate5955 thank you! Will keep in mind. I live in Canada and I bought a few ukes and have an acoustic guitar already, decided it's enough for a beginner for now :). But I do like this model in the look & size. Peehaps later, my concern whether the sound will be ok.

      @@tanyushmusic The little Yamaha is called a 3/4 size or parlor guitar, sometimes even a travel guitar. It did come with a soft gig bag which adds a little protection, not much. This is perfect for just having next to you whenever the mood strikes you, but I strongly suggest getting a small amplifier to really appreciate the sound - otherwise it WILL sound small because, well . . . it's small! Good luck.

    So, a couple of items that have been noticed. First, some might wonder about my movement and what the cause might be. It seems the rocking and swaying are something I do unconsciously. Then, that weird interruption starting @ 5:30 and lasting a long time was . . . me reaching down to grab a large Fender Thin triangular pick on top of the Vox, but as I touched it, it slid under the knob and was safely stuck there, so I went back to the song after looking around for another one, to no avail (bought a pack of 50) - couldn't tell you where this stuff vanishes to, seriously.
