Is this a cedar top?
I believe this one was actually Sitka Spruce top
This era was the pinnacle of the rich, full, harmonics laden, yet crisp fundamental tone of Taylor. Everything they've done to their guitar design (smaller, thinner, v-braced, cutaway, preamp piezo) since has diminished that. If you're just a light strummer, or mostly pick on stage thru an amp, none of it matters, ya might as well play electric. And most acoustic players nowadays do all that, leaning towards the latter. Thank you for the recording, you do elicit some tone in some spots, you dig a little. I have a 94. It's great you play the same across many models. Very helpful!
Why make demos if you can't properly eq the frekin amps. The Bj needs to have the mids way down to sound more scooped like the Princ and if it has a decent speaker will even sound better. In this demo, these both sound worse than I've ever heard them.
Unreal guitar, just picked one up.
I bought one of these (1997 model) used, sight unseen off eBay in 2005. I don’t like to buy guitars without playing them first, but I figured if it was good enough for John Denver, I’d probably like it as well. I’m very happy with it! The Taylor 855 is, IMO, one of the best 12-strings made.
Absolutely - I love mine!!!
This is the guitar I’m looking for. It unable to find
Beautiful guitar with an even better sound. The 855 is my favorite guitar (next to the Gibson Hummingbird) from any manufacturer.
Your demos are a great listen...and great playing
Great demo...or this and th 86. A great guitar....thank you
Love this guitar and your great playing. I have a 97......great guitar.,,,,feel lucky to have it,. Thanks
I am lucky to have a 512 from made in 2000, just before they changed it to its present form> bought it in 2020 and it looked unplayed, brand new. I have played it plenty since- beautiful guitar.
I have one along with the other titan brands. While I love them all, Gibson makes an acoustic guitar like no other.
Such a beautiful tone. Those scooped mids with the volume of that jumbo is the sweet spot! Very nice, most especially on the strumming.
💖🔥🏃♀️
Good Stuff Bub! ❤🙌🏼
hey bro, beautiful sound, what wood is this made of? Mahogany and cedar? Tank you
Can you please tell me your settings on both amps, because I have the exact same ones and am trying to find the edge of breakup on both.
Hey man, I usually start with everything at straight up noon - some of it is going to depend on which guitar you're using. For those particular video, I had both gain settings about at about 11 o'clock and took out some bass (10 o'clock-ish) and added some high end (2 o'clock'ish). Let me know if that helps!
@@adamrau1785 so for both amps you pretty much both settings this way? Yea I’m using a fender player series mexican made telecaster.
@@adamrau1785 also, do you run your master volumes cranked all the way and just use the gain knobs for volume?
@@adamrau1785 So I swapped my guitar for a prs 24 custom se. How would my settings on both my amps look for that? I’d like to get as close to your settings as possible because I love that sound you have and it’s what I’ve been looking for lol. I’m not sure where to put my mid knob on my fender amp.
How much this?!
This is such a great demo. Such more better with these really short clips, and I love that you have more normal obtainable pedals involved too.
Had one, had to let it go... Miss the warmth of the cedar. A great guitar that they only made for a few years. Great playing! Enjoy!
One of the best sounding guitars I have ever heard. Beautiful in both sound and looks!
Sounds nice, thanks for the demo. 👍🏻
How does this have 2k views and not one comment...can't wait to finally have my 414ce-r in hand...beautiful playing...
Beautiful guitar. Beautiful sounds. Merry Christmas from Hollywood, California.
Great sounding guitar. Nice playing.
Nice Taylor. I purchased my 814ce in February of 2020 i love it. Nothing like the sound of Taylor.
I'm seriously looking at this guitar. Your strumming sounds absolutely stunning !!! What are you running it through.
Appreciate the kind words! These 600 series jumbos are fantastic - I actually have this one for sale if you're at all interested here: www.ebay.com/itm/125618391306 and here: rvrb.io/2020-present-618e-kex6ah As far as my setup goes - I've got a couple of Shure SM81s that run into a stereo pair of Millennia Media STT-1 preamps then through an UA Apollo X8P into ProTools - I've found that this is my favorite setup.
Can I ask you why you're selling it? It's such a gorgeous sounding guitar.
@@shawnlyons895 Sure man! I've got my eye on a vintage big body Taylor!
Is it for sale?
Yes! Listing is here: www.ebay.com/itm/125580082605
Nicely done

Disponible?
Hello! Taylor 816 disponible?
Appreciate the demo! Considering this guitar but it’s a pretty big decision. I like martins too but this feels like so much more guitar for the money
Trying to decide between Taylor and Martin.....I really like the sound of Taylor Guitars but sometimes think they sound a little too bright?
Hey Mike - it really comes down to personal taste and style. I find I like the crisp highs in a Taylor a bit more than the boomy lows in a Martin - I feel they cut through a full mix without having to artificially EQ highs into a recording. Just my 2 cents!
Wish this was magically available now. This is a particular tone that I am trying to chase from a Taylor with a cutaway. Just found your channel today and am really appreciating all of your videos. Very well done and consistent too.
hola me gustaría tener una guitarra como esta gracias 🇱🇹
What a job man!! That's as good a comparaison as I've seen! Really helpful
Thanks for this! I'm a worship leader with a T5 and new Helix. This is the type of patch I was looking for. Do you know of any other resources for T5 and Helix owners?
Hey Matt - honestly I don’t. There isn’t much out there that marries the two though I think they are a super flexible and powerful combination. Hopefully this patch helps you out!
I have this guitar for my church from 1996. The acoustic, without amplification sounds very suppressed. Weak volume
That’s a great guitar.
I also think new Taylor’s can’t match the older ones
Awesome bro I have the same year and model Very few guitars can ever match it’s tone and playability . So nice too with w capo Very little re tuning needed when you put a capo on Not quite as loud as some Dreads but do right all around
Not sure if you ever look back on this video, but it's a great demo of the 714 sound. I think it's a beautiful guitar. I've got a 2002 and a 2020. I give the nod to the new one as being the better instrument, but I declare they both sound great. The older one generally seems to have a "warmer" tone and the new one seems a bit more "articulate" . . . but both are great. I'm a real fan of the 714ce.
If u ever make instrumentals would you let me use them for my videos?
Great demo! Does this one have the Lutz spruce?
Yes sir - Lutz spruce!
@@adamrau1785 Thanks! It sounds awesome.
Sounds great! Is this cedar or spruce top?
This one is a spruce top
Sweet collection man! i have a few loved 90’s Taylors with others i’ll do a video soon. This was inspiring. take care
I own this in a 2003 and I absolutely love it. Mine has aged now 18 years. It shines best for fingerpicking and light picking clear, warm notes-my style of playing.
