Spotting and summarising trends is absolutely your superpower, this is bang on from my recent experiences in the job market and entering into a 180 day (😮) rather than 90 day probation period. The companies that are hiring right now definitely have a pre-agreed strategy and a backlog of initiatives/projects that their current team have no bandwidth to touch. This means that execution will start in the first or second week, no matter how strategic you prefer your approach to be. What I will say is that my hope is also that it’s a short-term scenario, and that any other PMMs in this position will be able to build authority as they establish themselves (and drive revenue impact) in the role to get to that balanced point of strategy and execution. Great practical tips on navigating this market. As you say, risk limitation from these companies means that securing a referral or pointing to a LI recommendation from a past colleague alongside a strong professional profile is the most effective route into a new role right now. As a founding PMM i think you should be paid more than when you’re hired as an associate/intern but because you are judged based on your experience and not the role you’re being brought in to play, the startup that will employ you as founding PMM will not consider the fact that you’re building out the department without a boss - needs a higher pay. As a beginner thats why I’ll prefer to work for my first year where theres already founding PMM

For example, I worked for a global company from East Asia as a product manager, and from the first hour of the first day of work, they were asking what I had achieved so far 🙃
