Thank you for the video. There is so much confusion about the engineering technology (ET) discipline, especially when it comes to the career that a four-year ET program prepares someone for. I have been teaching ET for 16 years and I have had 0 students to get a job in industry as a technologist. To guess, I would say 95% of my graduates are engineers right out of college. Also, half of the states in the US allow ET graduates to take the PE just like graduates of theoretical engineering degrees. There has been a push recently to change the names of four-year ET programs to Applied Engineering, which is a better name for the discipline.
If you get a degree in engineering technology as long as it is accredited by ABET whether it is EAC or ETAC, you will still be considered an engineer. In the past most students who majored in engineering technology could not get a graduate degree. Currently, colleges offer masters degrees in engineering technology as well as engineering. I am glad that there hasn't been a change to applied engineering because the accreditation my change from ETAC of ABET to ATMAE.
@@411TalkZoneRadioShowChannel They are very limited, but there are actually Ph.D's in Engineering Technology too and not just master's. Also, the advantage of ABET accreditation is that 50% of states allow ET graduates to sit for the PE. In my state and my surrounding states, you can only sit for the PE with an EAC degree, so overall, the ABET accreditation is only a validation like ATMAE. And my comments are coming from my experiences with industry and higher education in my state. As you know, each state has laws and ethics statements related to engineering. Still, I have found that the industry, as a whole, prefers graduates who have the skillsets more than an ABET accreditation attached to their degree (again, this may be different in other states). My ET program has almost 100% job placement, and students generally have a full-time position with an engineering title the semester before graduation. Many of these positions are over $100K out of college. To be fair, this is not true for all ET majors. It is different for civil engineering, where I agree that everyone needs to graduate from an EAC or ETAC school. I teach Automation Engineering, which is much more of a niche market. Concrete batch plants are pretty safe. I have been in many. There are areas that are unsafe such as the silos.
