    This has been very helpful ! Long story short.... I took my car completely apart 20 years ago. And i mean APART !!! The problem is shortly after talking her apart i took a 80 foot header into some rock ! Now that my marbles are lining up I'm trying to get her back on the road. Afer 20 years i figured it's time. Thanks for the video and inspiration !

    I noticed the axle seal kits are pretty universal, are the paper gaskets not used on IRS, I think they are only used on Swing axle, but all other parts are the same ?

    How did you get the napoleon hat to sit flush? Mine does not

    • @Mikeyworks
      @Mikeyworks 5 месяцев назад

      I think it ultimately comes down to tolerances between the lift and the napoleon hat. Mine did generally fit, but I had to give it a few gentle "pushes" to get it to fit. It does flex a bit. Ultimately I decided to take the lift back off and not use it...I didn't like the way it made the body sit on the car.

  • @ctreatman
    @ctreatman 6 месяцев назад

    you said you used m10 bolts in the front on the napoleon hat. Arent they the same size bolts as the rear channel? Im picking up a rolling chassis without pans but with trans and body thats not attached for a great price to finish my dune buggy and I need to grab bolts for the body to bolt to the front and rear chassis so I can move it flat towed. I have the bolts somewhere for the original body from my shortened chassis but theyre buried. Can you help

    • @mikehitchings4948
      @mikehitchings4948 6 месяцев назад

      On a standard beetle they should be the same size all around. However due to the body lift the holes on this were drilled a different size and I had to use the M10’s.

    I like this upgrade. If your A still has points, get a Pertronix unit to replace your points. The Pertronix will fit in your original distributor body and will be a huge improvement over the points and will assure greater reliability, saving you a lot of reliability issues, which is quite common with most original A's.

I bought my 1930 Model A Town Sedan while in Junior High school for $10, and started enjoying it around the farm until I could get a license. Show how to install the thermostat. Having a thermostat will not Crack the head. The thermostat is 160 deg. Once your engine reaches that temp. Water will flow through the cooling system. I use 50/50 green anti-freeze and distilled water. Normal days the temperature gauge runs at 160. During summer Phoenix or Fort Worth hot day over 100. It runs about 180. Hope this helps and keep doing your wonderful videos

    I've owned a similar Model A Coupe since 1964 and know a few things about the pos and cons of owning one. For instance, try to avoid the hills. You'll be in second or even low gear going up even a bit of a hill unless you can get a good run at it. And of course those brakes aren't exactly made for any panic stops. Maybe cast iron drums would help. I don't know as yet since they're so damned expensive on the Canadian side. As for that ignition switch, I'd say don't worry about it not being a pop out. I replaced my pop out switch with a regular turn key model which looks the same because of several problems you can have with a pop out. For one thing, it can stop popping out all the way since the cable puts it under pressure to bend a bit and can jam in the hole. Then the car won't start since the electrical connections aren't contacting. I could go on but that's enough for now.
