Competing in TT3 with NASA Florida at Sebring. Final session of the day. After a personal best lap of 2:23.398, I decided to do a cool down lap to get temperatures down before giving one last full-send effort. I was up 0.4 seconds towards the end of the lap, with a potential to break into the 2:22's when I ran into a "class filler" TTU BMW sedan. This cost me the win, and I ended up in second p...

First time at this bucket list track! So technical with so many nuances. Definitely a track that will take a long time to master. Managed a 2:28.14 on 255 RE71R. Lost a bit of time slowing for the Corvette that went off at Le Mans.

2009-04-10: Streets of Willow Springs CW with SpeedVentures and Redline Track Events (joint event). Session: Black 4 (approximately 1:40pm). Porsche owner started smoking, and was meatballed (flag that signals for you to pull off the track immediately so that you don't spill anything out on the track). Driver either did not see the flags or chose not to pull off the track. Porsche spilled coola...

June 3, 2012: Buttonwillow, California. Track day hosted by Extreme Speed Track Events. I worked as an instructor throughout the day and gave multiple rides and helped instruct beginners. Here is a video of me giving a ride along, while having a bit of fun trying to catch the infamous Alex Peng (blue S2000 in the video) who was running nearly identical lap times. The ambient temperature was 95F...

My brain is now blown...... wow that is fast!

How much time is gained from the addition of a splitter and wing?
Awolnation- sail
specs are below video
awesome driving!
Watch this video on a weekly basis till it gets warmer out. Can't wait!
@sushimaster100 Here is a very good budget setup: $650 - APR GTC-200 Wing $1000 - Enkei RPF1 17x9 +45 x4 $300 - SPC Camber Joints x4 $50 - 60 mm Test Pipe Tires, pads, oil changes, gas are all wear items, and so I didn't include them as "modifications:" $600 - 255/40R17 Hankook RS-3 x4 $360 - Carbotech F: XP12 / R: XP10 $20 - Motul RBF600 This setup can do at least a 2:01 at Buttonwillow, 1:34 at WSIR and 1:25 at SOWS.
Hypothetically, with $2,000 budget...where would you spend it to get the most out of a stock S2000 for tracking? Tires, pads, straight pipe?
Amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing!!!
@TheMdpalmer Yep, that was my fast lap of the day. I'll probably feature a different driver in the next video recap. The RS3's are phenomenal tires, but if money were no object, I'd probably spring for the AD08's that you have. I hear the grip level is similar, but the AD08 has better feel, is better in the wet, rides smoother, and wears better.
@VitaRenovatio Sorry I wasn't clear about the music comment... not that I don't like the music, I would rather hear the car/motor/tires instead. Were you the one running the Hankook RS3s? How do you like them, they looked like they were working for you. I just got some Yoko Advan Neova ADO8s they are supposed to be similar to the RS3s.. I would have got those but didn't have my size. Like I said great vid, keep them coming!
@TheMdpalmer Thanks for the compliment. For the money, the Honda S2000 is the best track car out there. You can buy a used S2000 for less than $10,000 now, and for very minimal modifications (less than $2000), you can flat out embarrass much more expensive "track ready" cars like the GT3 RS and Z06. I'm sorry you don't like the music, but I'm definitely open to recommendations anyone might have for good track music, so please share!
@zippyicy It's a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 ($240) mounted on a Modifry Low-Profile Windscreen Camera Mount ($40). The camera is a waterproof, shockproof point-and-shoot camera with built in optical image stabilization that can shoot AVCHD 1080/60i videos, with a lens that can go 28mm wide. It's a great little all-purpose camera, and I'm very happy with it.
This is great footage, you guys can drive man, I'm very impressed. It's hard to convey the sense of speed in videos, but I have been on that track a few times myself, and you guys are going way, way, way faster than I would even think on the whole track. Gives me inspiration to improve :) Although, I'm not a fan of the music, I'd rather hear the motor run...but really cool shot showing all the cars in the beginning. Thanks for editing/posting the vid, now favorited! Maybe I should get an s2k :)
awolnation FTW. N
Awesome vid! What camera are you using for the in-car vids? Image stabilization?
Love this, great video! Can't wait to get mine out of the garage when it warms up on the east coast. Jealous you guys already have the weather for it... thanks for sharing
9kalltheway!! Thumb up!
Very cool! I can't wait for spring out here in Chicago. The S and I both need this!
BFCOT FTMFW But seriously, this was an awesome event. Great car control too.

hahaha nice vid!
Good driving. Was this the day that Miata dug in and flipped several times during warmup?
you can see me standing there at 1:05 haha
We need to give him more competition next year ;) The CRs need to actually win spec-CR.
Congratulations on your overall win this year! Thanks for all your help with my car setup too.
Faster than Emelio!
BAHAHA OMGWTFBBQ?!?!?! Thats the funniest shit I've heard!
Even with self-tech forms, I would question this to help prevent situations in the future. Not saying everyone who goes to a SV event is negligent about the safety of their car, but this incident proves there is at least one irresponsible driver. I agree with not trusting the corner worker, this person was not paying attention at all. Was this person paid to work? To top it off that Porsche owner was aware of the coolant hose coming on and off so in my book thats 2 strikes
Wow
omg wtf bbq why you gotta make me laugh in a horrible situation!
Wooooow wtf!
SpeedVentures uses self-tech forms. Yes, we should slow down when we see dust. But it was white flag out, corner worker wasn't doing anything, so I figured it was from someone who went off in the front straight or even the last complex of turns before the skidpad. What I've learned from this incident is to not trust corner workers.
Don't you guys tech your cars or at least have the organizer of the event tech them? Sounds like this could of been somewhat avoided especially if the owner of the porsche knew the hose comes off periodically. Then there's the issue of the corner worker, but in all reality, if you see dust ahead of you, slow down. Glad nobody was hurt.
WOW. that was an epic situation. cool having so many angles of it from 2 cars. was the porsche held accountable at all? i would be absolutely furious. who pays for all the damage?
As far as the corner worker, the fact that a yellow flag had not been thrown by the time I had got to the esses (mind you this is after the Porsche driver spilled coolant, 350Z spun and went off, Suzuka S2000 spun and went airborne, Apex CR spun and went off), tells me the corner worker was either oblivious or just plain stoned.
Thank you for your input, as it's always good to hear another perspective regarding the situation. As far as the meatball flag, when I pulled into paddock and asked the spectators on the stands what had happened, three or four seemed to agree that the Porsche driver did indeed get flagged and quite some time had passed since he finally pulled off-line. Their testimony along with what I heard about the Porsche driver from the Suzuka driver painted a completely different picture than yours.
I was the Apex Blue CR...not too happy with the situation, but I made out better than the other S2000's somehow.
From what I heard from the Suzuka owner, the fluid on the track was coolant. The Porsche driver actually knew at the start of the day that his radiator hose would periodically slip off. I think he was grossly negligent by not only tracking a car that is not in safe running order, but also not pulling off track as soon as he was flagged. If what I have heard is true, his negligence caused the damage of three S2000s, and at the very least should be banned from future events.
i know 2 of the people in that vid. the s2k infront of u and the suzuka that was totaled
