Whilst I applaud your efforts, if you take into account the cost of containers, the compost, the labour, and your time, compared with the price of potatoes in your local shops, the return really doesn’t seem worth it - apart from the ‘novelty’ factor. That said, I’m experimentally growing two containers worth of spuds this year - just for the amusement of it. I’m not expecting much, but all my supplies were ‘free’ so I’ll lose nothing except a little of my time if they fail. I’m not knocking you back. Just voicing my point of view.

You said you were going to grow less next year, I am thinking along similar lines, I think I will concentrate on onions, tomatoes, potatoes and brassicas although I think that every year and always end up growing a variety of things 😂. Take care 😊

Hello Ronald & Susan, nice harvest of potatoes, you are right in growing too much if you are giving a lot away, just grow what you both need. Its always trial & error for medication & glad Susan is now on new medication & feeling well enough to go out for a walk too. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

Hi did you know that potatoes are also determinate & indeterminate first early and second s are determinate so if you plant 3 potatoes in the bottom as normal you only get 1 layer of potatoes so if you plant 2 3”from the bottom at 9-3 o’clock then cover with 8” of soil then plant 2 more at 12 & 6 o’clock you will get another layer of potatoes, now the lates are different you plant at the bottom as normally and fill to the top and they will produce all they way up as they are indeterminate I hope this will help to get you and your lovely wife more potatoes yours konrad

Hi Ronald. We are so pleased for Susan, Hope you have a great and safe trip to meet up with Brian. Had a similar thing with my dad and his tablets, the doctor eventually decided to change them and wow within a few days the difference in him was amazing. What a fantastic potato harvest you had there, your small pots gave you more than two of my 30ltr tubs gave me. Take care both of you and enjoy your trip. 👍👍👍👍👍

I’m from Manchester haven’t been back for oh 49 years 😂. Lovley Susan I’m glad your getting better and going in little trips ❤. It has been a wide range of temps here Ronald 4c to 20+ in one day. Great potatoes Ronald 👍. Have a fabulous week stay safe and be happy, Alison 🌦️🇨🇦

a cat has recently discovered one of my deep beds for a toilet. a bit of netting should cure that. my leeks have been destroyed. i found them last week with an old padling pool over the top of them. they are now flattened ald pale because of the lack or light. it obbviously blew over the fence during the last winds. these things are sent to try our patience. lol. it was 41f thursday morning. the coldest night so far fot the back end of this year. it felt like ice in the air. i'm still waiting to find out from steve house what variety of spud he used in this years challenge. any reports of improvemnt in health are always good news, ron. look forward to see you both on tuedsay, meeting wassock to wassock. lol..................brian

Hello Ronald and Susan. If you don't want totally dried beans you can pod those borlotti now and freeze without blanching. Picking demi sec like this is my preferred as you can throw them in soups straight from the freezer all winter without having to soak them.

Hi Ronald, lovely catch up. With your borlotti beans you can harvest them at that pinkish/red colour and you can pod them and eat the beans straight away, you will need to boil them for a while before you eat them, or you can leave them and they will dry on the plant with their pods turning a dark purple/brown colour and you can remove them from their pods and store them as dry beans that will need rehydrating in water for 24 hours before you use them. Normally I leave mine to go as dry as possible and then I put them on a tray in a warm sunny window for a couple of days to make sure they are really dry and then I store them in a glass jar. Take care 😊
