Awful new laptop (Dell Precision M4800)

Brand new Dell Precision M4800 (2014) on the monitor versus my trusty but slightly worn Precision M4500 (2010). Same program loading, but technology going backwards. Dell took the new machine back 3 times and finally declared it 'working' and therefore not able to be returned under guarantee. To be fair, by the end it didn't randomly turn off during use, but I'd say it was pretty far from worki...

These bells are nice and have tuned up nicely, no doubt a Nigel Taylor tuning job. I do love 10 bell ring probably the most.
Some beautiful well struck ringing on beautiful bells. Is this St Andrews the 1956 Taylor 8? Something I have often wondered, has anybody every tried method ringing with closed leads like Devon call changes. The Devon ringers do strike well but then they dont need ropesight. It would be intering to hear wwhat it would sound like although I do like the open leads. The ringing room is bit i. Your face with the colours.
Awesome Thanks for posting
Excellent video it's great that you can see what is going on up in the belfry as well as what the ringers are done, great videos for learners.
The Nine Tailors brought me here.👍
May I ask where was the Tenor made?
The tenor was made by Christopher Hodson in 1693. I don't know if there's a record of exactly where it was made - at the time it was common, especially for large bells, for them to be cast on-site. If you are interested in further information, it's possible that either the Durham Cathedral Bell Major or one of the Stewards of Dove's Guide for Church Bell Ringers will be able to help.
:(
I do like a Grandsire Triple! It reminds me of my childhood years when the church bells were a of our village way of life. So sad that so many church bells stand silent today.
They remind me of Appledore North Devon & Ilfracombe Holy Trinity Top Church
Hi Dave, is there a written method anywhere that can be viewed that you used for this? Bob
Interesting question! There were a few sheets which described the rough gist of what we would be doing, but I don't think I ever saw the final 'performance' version of the instructions. If you can see the monitor between the 9 and 10, that's roughly how the instructions were written out - i.e. a grid with the expected bells ringing in each row. Of course, the subtlety is getting that back into the directions that the conductor gives - I think that did end up as a printed script for them. There was a 'Britney Spears microphone' arrangement available for the conductor, but I don't think it was being used on this occasion.
you should do a not muffled ringing
The bells are muffled so the lights can turn on.
great ringing thank you, this helped me greatly with learning grandsire touches !
Superb striking. Also the tuning of these bells sounds interesting. I wonder what the method used was because some of the partials sound quite spicy.
I’ve just come back from ringing here. The tenor feels much heavier than it is.
The tenor sounds like it’s made by Gillett and Johnson even though it’s not.
Haha! Thats kind of weird. Didnt know that there was a live stream of of the contest tower! My band was Go Bellistic! and I was ringing the 5th.
When there was some time of silence with the camera staring at the old bells, I could barely hear worcester cathedral's bells from a distance!
Really good struck indeed, must of practiced loads
Thanks! We'd had a couple of practices at home, but after that we were straight into performances!
Beautiful!
Was the person ringing the tenor Bellringing in the bells of Cambridge documentary?
Good spot - yes, this is a primarily Cambridge band ringing and the ringers of the 4, 7 [off-screen], 9 and 10 were all in 'Come bell-ringing with Charles Hazlewood'
I was ringing the 6th of 8 there. I was in the Brumdingers.
bobs are called a bit early apart from that very nice
plenty of time to react then!
Absolutely fab bells rung by a fab band!

This should be an Olympic sport - but only the English (Brits) would ever win it.
Wow I don't know whether I'm glad or sad about the change of colour scheme between then and now
Amazing a place I must visit

A bit of clipping from the 4th etc but nobodys perfect still lovely

Kinda dumb
Love fire-ring bells I do
Very useful and helpful
Lovely
I was reading up on Wikipedia shut this and there is posted an "External Links" to this video. I had no idea, until after reading the info on Wikipedia this morning, that Bell Ringing can and must in certain circumstances be ring at least in 50,000 different rings to be proper. That AMAZES me! Thank you for posting this video; it is quite interesting to me (especially after reading of the vastness in scale that can be brought forth from a true "Ring of Bells". Amazing, simply and utterly amazing!
Really lovely ringing on nice bells .a bit of minor clipping at times but I'm not perfect. A joy to listen to.
What is clipping?
@@RohrDC a good question to ask so I am assuming you may not be a ringer. Each bell should sound one after another. Also equal spacing in time between the bells Even when they change into different sequence this is the same. Clipping is when bell bell strike way to close to the preceding bell. Everytime you ring you want it to be perfect, but of course we know perfection is hard to a achieve. The worst case scenario is when two bells ring at exactly the same time. Still a great question I think.
This is one of the worst, most pointless videos I have ever seen.
I hope that this is going to be 'LIVE' on YT on the day ?
That's certainly the plan (National 12-bell channel - ruclips.net/user/National12Bell) - of course, normal caveats apply (we are just a bunch of amateurs at the end of the day!)!
Hey - we appreciate it very much. You all do sterling work for bell ringers - all over the place - as a ringer myself I very much look forward to the broadcast - in between weddings !!

Superb striking and, above all, a great video to watch - -pick your bell and use ropesight to keep an eye on its path. Most enjoyable, thanks!
Is the tenor up wrong?
+Timothy Garrison It's very unlikely. It's a little sad that the clapper is hidden in the top-down view, however, if the bell were up wrong you'd be able to see the clapper in the side-on view of the tenor (top right image). I appreciate it's not very clear, but I'm pretty sure the clapper (also painted blue) is not visible there.
I watched it in slow motion and even in normal speed and slow motion I can see the tenor is up right
kyle the ringer Good for you Kyle
But...it worked? Why is it awful??? Which GPU did you configure it with?
awful music
awful reply
The purpose of ringing the bells down is to make them safe - hanging with the bells at the bottom of the wheel. The ringing room is on the ground floor of the church, so it's really important to make sure that if someone were to grab a rope by accident nothing bad would happen to them!
Can you sing the scale
Nice ringing chamber. Very colourful
Sadly (or not, depending on your point of view) it has since been repainted off-white!
SHAME!
Not as colourful as Tuebrook in Liverpool owo
