Castle of our Skins Trio performs Á Tres Voces by Tania León
You need to name your quartet and become a regular staple among string quartets. Your playing is awesome!
Expressive writing for the voice of the viola and the piano blend made this a masterful composition. The performance brought all of this out and I am sure that this has done the composer's heart good and he is beaming from ear to ear.
Thank you :)
Stunning work. Beautiful performance. Was this a recent commission?
It was originally written, I believe in 2008, for violist Beverly Baker and it is meant to evoke memories of Hailstork 's time as a chorister at the Cathedral of All Saints in Albany, New York.
Lobe it. Short and soothing!
This work is based on a Kenyan folk song, a lullaby from Lake Victoria. The words basically says to child to be quite and go to sleep for the child that is not quite will be eaten by the hyenas and the child that is quite will not be eaten. Thanks to Seychelle Dunn-Corbin, saxophonist, dancer Jenny Oliver, and video by Dave Jamrog for such a wonderful job in portraying the peacefulness of this lullaby.
It sounds absolutely majestic. It reminds me of Greek Classical guitar composition.
Singleton has me figured out in 13 minutes. Took my therapist over a year.
❤
Another beautiful rendition!! Just what I needed to hear. ❤❤❤❤❤
Brilliant program and performance!
Brava!!!
Just heard this today. How beautiful...but sad I am just discovering the work of Florence Price.
Fine work by a hard working American composer. Very post modern.
Um... melody? Some of us organize the sounds in our heads that way.
This is multidimensional. I’m lost somewhere in the horizontals, diagonals, and bodies I feel distantly and secretly orbiting my soul, I’m alone - and it’s pitiful but it’s not terrified - because each day we start again.
beautiful
As befits a composer with solid academic credentials, every note is in place, every gesture precisely calibrated. Unfortunately it is boring and predictable, also befitting it's academic status.
Interesting! I wholly disagree and find the music and playing inspired.
Wow! Excellent music. Wonderful performers.
Absolute Finesse 💯
Nice work keep it up
Amazing performance... Thank y'all
Proud of you Dr Wells
Congratulations on this new opportunity. So proud of you
Congratulations Dr. Wells on your new position as Executive Director at Castle of our Skins! I am so proud of you niece!

Gorgeous music, well played. I’m so glad that Ms. Price is now getting recognition via young artists. This is reclaiming history. Thank you all.
Amazing
Poignant and beautiful
Thanks, Anthony for keeping Harriet Jacobs alive thru your opera. Seven years is a long time to live in isolation and to be on the run from an abusive captor. How wish I had bilocation and could travel safely to your premiere! Alas life has other plans. Please share performance links if possible. Meanwhile, know that i am with you in Spirit cheering for what I know will be a wonderful premiere. Harriet is smiling on you and all who articulate her plight and triumph.
Thank you so much, Regina.
Beautiful

我讨厌政治正确,但这首曲子确实旋律优美且有点黑人音乐的底蕴,不错的作品。
phrasing is way too european classical for a Price piecel, that's not celebrating Price at all, it's like saying "we don't care that it's Price, we'll play the quartet with same language that we could play Brahms or Beethoven, because this is the right way to do it". The name is "juba", not "sarabande" or "polka", so interpretation must be in that line... so. less violin sound, more fiddle sound, guys
8 billion people on the planet and we all have to play and sound the same?!? No way. Celebrate the fact that Price's music is being made. Great intonation, rhythm, and excellent professional musicians.
@@rjwohlman playing Price's music with european phrasing is an insult to Price's memory and work. Adaptating to the language is a must-do for every single player, and normally with european repertoire they do it. Not adapting the phrasing to the language is a way to say "i don't care for the author's work" or "the author doesn't deserve it, I'll just play it like I know"
Oh, what- it's not bluesy enough for you? This *is* celebrating Price by giving her the recognition that she's always deserved. Because of her brilliance and originality, it was impossible NOT to recognize her contributions to music, but she certainly was up against the more primitive social thinking that went on in her day. So just be happy this is on RUclips. There'll probably be more performances of it. For the record, I LOVE the American-ness of Price's compositions; I'm tired of composers like Brahms Mozart and Beethoven getting all the glory.
I think that what's missing here is what an incredible student of 18th and 19th century music Ms Price was...that's one of the things that made her such a visionary teacher...so well-informed. She seamlessly incorporated elements of classical and non-classical styles together to create a wonderful musical fusion...that's why this mvt actually works with several approaches, to my ear. She was simply brilliant...and a master of multiple styles.
Wonderful performances! Thank you for sharing this.
Bravo. I'd like to buy the score. Do you know where I can buy it, please?
Breathtakingly BEAUTIFUL!!!!💜
Sirgourney is so awesome!😘🙏🏽
Excellent piece I love the harmonies, textures, and rhythms of this
wow!
everything changes when you hit 20:37
Such a beautiful, and expressive piece! Price is a composer I'd never heard of until about a year ago; *now* she's one of my favorites (which includes Dvorak, Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, et al)
Beautiful! Thank you
Simply amazing music, played with such sensitivity and brilliance!
Beautifully played. Thank you.
One of the first songs i learned to play on the violin, and one of my favourites...
This is lovely. A perfect accompaniment to an improvised morning stretch, or a short-form yoga "sun salutation", or just a moment of stillness. Thank you Castle of Our Skins, composer, and musicians.
Wow. Incredible sounds!
this is dope im boutta sample this 😭😭
Beautiful voice, beautiful expression. Brava!
this is nice
