@@lisagd22 I know markmaking can be scary. Just play around on some scrap paper and see what you come up with.
Wow! Thank you for this amazing tip! The gloss on most magazine pages has been stopping me from using them in collage. Yay, they have now been freed to join my art table 🤣
@@kathleenvonbalson4791 Yay! I’m also in love with the textures and patterns that appear on a simple magazine page when you sand over something. And it’s a great way to make text unreadable or a famous person unrecognizable!
@@CollageLab yes! I have been experimenting using extra fine steel wool on paper over texture mats, stencils, sequin waste, etc. I will be buying extra fine sandpaper tomorrow! I love the effects that can be achieved with this technique!

Why aren't you leaving space between the "supposed words"?
@@CrystalBerrios Great question! You could totally do it that way. I feel like the continuous line fits my markmaking vibe, and is similar to the feeling you get when you do a contour drawing without lifting your pen. But separating the faux “words” would certainly give an interesting effect!
I've never seen any1 do this but it does remind me of my childhood when I sort of pretended to exchange notes with a friend in french with none existing words. Entire stories we made up lol. You're realy good at it, don't know if I can but will try it for sure for I like it a lot. Love that collage. TFS! I subscribed so you got yourself a new subbie. Byebye

Oh my goodness Kelly. So amazing each and every one!! What stood out for me was the sculptures, the LIFE pieces and the colorful large piece at the end!! So prolific ❤
@@candacenystrom8186 Wow! Thank you so much! I created about 50 new pieces over almost a full year - creating in series was a lifesaver, and also helped the cohesiveness of the exhibit. I’m particularly in love with the LIFE collages - not sure if it’s clear in the video, but those gals are covered in resin. ❤️

I really don't understand what the purpose is for asemic writing. Why would anyone want to write in such a way for no one to understand 😕. To me is not art. So what is it 🤨??
@@rutbrea8796 Asemic writing is a very powerful addition to mixed media art for a few reasons. The brain is drawn to anything that resembles writing, but actual words can sometimes overpower your message. As a markmaking tool, asemic writing adds interest, and also texture, pattern, repetition, or color to your composition, without distracting the viewer with trying to read actual text. It’s just one tool that an artist can use, and it certainly isn’t for everyone. Thanks for watching - I appreciate your perspective!

Oh my!!! I'd watched a couple of your videos and liked them. I decided to check this one out even though personally I don't normally like haul videos, but I do like estate sales. Wow!! You found a treasure trove. I now want to find one of those old address books, my great grandmother had one. I would love to make an A to Z collage book that pops open on each page! Wow, that would be too cool. Thanks for sharing- I've subscribed because I am so curious!

My mother had the Speedball lettering booklet when I was growing up - I grab lettering or calligraphy books every time I see them now!
We must have had smaller circles of friends back when… not very big
My mother always wrote my address and phone number in pencil because I moved a lot! Now we have all of that contact info at our fingertips on our phone. Very different world!
