Yaesu FT-897 Audio noise reduction mod

Noise reduction mod on the Yaesu FT-897. On my Blog - m0tef.blogspot.com/2019/04/modifying-ft-897-to-get-best-from-it.html I have been using my ft-897 for a while now, the main rig has a fault and I have been far too busy to get it sorted and repaired. I found it was not quite right, I have been spoiled by using quality receivers over the last few years and I couldn't quite put my finger on wha...
Homebrew Mini paddle

Inspired by my palm mini paddle I wanted to have a go at a simple iambic paddle that I could use portable with my kit. The ideal companion to my QRP portable kit and the HB-1A and HB-1B rigs and basic wire antennas. It is nothing fancy and made using scraps of welding rod, M3 nuts and some PCB off cuts. Once secured to the desk with blue tack it stays pretty still. Total cost was nothing but a ...

This video shows the Frog Sounds QRP transceiver being used by Keith G0RQQ as we operate under the callsign M0TEF/P from a local parking area. We didn't have any contacts but we did get reports via twitter of our signal but that a very large signal nearby made it hard to copy us. The RX of the receiver has been recorded form the headphones, I apologise for the poor quality, but it gives you a g...

    Don't recommend buying directly from Retevis, they won't exchange or repair a bad radio I bought directly from them. Buy from someone that has good return warranty.

    My question is...why did Yaesu allow this model to hit the market with so many improvements needed and quickly discovered by technicians in the field? In other words, they tossed it on the market without regard and just wanted our money!!!

    Thanks for the info Alistair! I run both a FT-897D as well as a FT-1000MP Mark-V and just purchased a FT-991A with my stimulus check I received from the U.S. government. I'm definitely a Yaesu fan! I use my FT-897 almost exclusively for digital modes because of it's excellent cooling system! It runs very cool even if I get a bit long-winded on PSK31 or FSK-105 Hell modes. I love my Mark-V Alistair, my second one, the first got hit by a direct lightning strike, I have a post about it on my blog at ku4gw.blogspot.com/2011/06/may-22nd-2011-lightning-strike.html if you'd like to check it out. I wish my Mark-V had all of the filters like yours you lucky rascal! I just started following your blog also. Lots of good info. I have not made a post on my blog in long time now, too many irons in the fire here, but I sure am having a blast on amateur radio, starting my 24th year in the hobby October 16, 2020. If I make it until the next one I'll become a member of the Quarter-Century Wireless Association. I'm also into QRP portable operation using either a Ten-Tec R4020 or a Hendricks PFR-3A most of the time. I may start using my FT-897D portable some now that I bought the FT-991A. My FT-897D has a problem on VHF, the transmit gets stuck and if I tap the mic key several times very fast it always unkeys, but it's definitely annoying, especially when using repeaters. I was here on RUclips looking for a possible fix and ran across your video above. If you happen to see a possible fix for that problem on the FT-897D please drop my a note. I'm good on QRZ. Thanks in advance and very 72/73 de Cliff, KU4GW - SKCC#652C, NAQCC#1491, Flying Pigs QRP International#1183, 4SQRP#536, FISTS#16001, A-1 CW Club#3440, Feld Hell (Hellschreiber) Club#0062, EPC#27746, 30MDG#0865, Digital Modes Club=DMC#6362, QRPARCI#15877, Elected member of the ARRL A-1 Operator Club since 11 April 2012.

    Did this mod yesterday (added a switch to see the difference), it does cut off the top end a fair bit - also (obviously) reduces the audio output from the amp as well so you have to turn the volume up an 8th more to get the same output - slightly easier to listen to, but not by much

    • @m0tef901
      @m0tef901 5 лет назад

      Thanks for the comments Ian, I too noticed a slight drop in audio output, more on the external speaker I use than internally. I have quite a high noise level here so notice a much larger difference than I might do away from the home QTH, but now I may add a switch to experiment more.
