Literally Graphic
Канада
Добавлен 29 июл 2014
Greetings fellow human, I like to read, think and critique pretty much anything and everything, but mostly I talk about books with pictures. Doesn't matter if it's a graphic novel, comic book, comic strip, webcomic, manga, manhwa, wordless, back of a cereal box, picture book, nonfiction, epic fantasy, science fiction, romance, and/or NSFW I'm talking about.
My goal is to not only to spread the word about the amazing diversity we have in modern comics, but also to learn about and explore them on an artistic/literary level. And while you will hear a lot of personal opinion on this channel, I try and highlight other opinions I find in my internet wanderings.

Lost at Sea by Bryan Lee O'Malley [cc]
"Raleigh doesn't have a soul. A cat stole it - at least that's what she tells people - at least that's what she would tell people if she told people anything. But that would mean talking to people, and the mere thought of social interaction is terrifying. How did such a shy teenage girl end up in a car with three of her hooligan classmates on a cross-country road trip? Being forced to interact with kids her own age is a new and alarming proposition for Raleigh, but maybe it's just what she needs - or maybe it can help her find what she needs - or maybe it can help her to realize that what she needs has been with her all along."

Thank you so much for making these videos on your channel!! I'm new to graphic novels, watching your videos helps me find my next reads ❤❤ I'm a fellow queer person too, lots of love and more power to you!!❤️
The brick Bible is a Bible that’s shows the stories as visual. The Bible its self is very graphic. The lego were used to show graphic scenes as innocent.
This is a native comic
Thank u for sharing 👍🔥

This is such a intese topic ❤ 1:14
Indeed!
Love this! ❤
Does every book have to deal with race, gender, and sexuality?
Nope
I'm they she he too.
Awesome! Love to see it :)
Pronouns = out
Glad we got that out of the way and I didn't trick you into wasting your time :)
Jesus will return repent
Just found your channel, new fan, gonna watch some more vids
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know :)
“I also didn’t realize that apparently next month M. Night Shyamalan is releasing a movie based off this” 🧢🧢🧢
It's true, I can be clueless lol
I'm not a Catholic. I'm a born-again Christian and this book is trash! Stick to either the original Hebrew and Greek Texts or the King James Text! Do not allow your children to read any Bible that you yourself has not read! This is satanic trash sent to deceive your children! Do not fall for this! How we handle JESUS makes the difference between Heaven and Hell when you leave this earth!
I like the cute little houses walking around, like house shaped turtles <3
I think I’m gonna be reading this myself !! I love this 😭😭
Awesome! Let me know what you think.
I have this book!❤
Awesome, it was so unique!
Been looking for this exact subject matter for a couple months now! Thank you
No problem. I'm surprised there aren't more graphic novels on the topic honestly.
I really despise cutesy standard manga drawing style (from an old French dude point of view who was raised with 60''s-70's European golden age comics that goes from Franquin to Moebius in addition to Marvel and DC Comics) BUT I must admit Masashi Tanaka can easily compare to Hugo Pratt or John Buscema in terms of visual expressivity and impact.
It is a very unique style. Have you looked into more alternative manga? There is certainly a lot of cute and cute adjacent stuff in manga but there is a lot of not cute stuff too!
@@LiterallyGraphic Absolutely, I also appreciate artists like Katsuhiro Otomo because he went way further than the simplistic manga graphic recipe. But there is still way too much uniformity in the whole business (in terms of sales, there is, hence why mediocrity is rewarded) because too many people don't want to rock the boat.
nigga how can i pirate this comic? like any website you got ??
Please, how do I get the book
Es un pesimo libro
GET OU-
7:25 wdym without her consent?
If I recall correctly Constantine did not explain this plan to Zed and therefore she did not consent to be “corrupted”
Joe Sacco is probably the journalist with the least amount of integrity out there. Horrible book filled with anti American and pro Palestinian propaganda Nice review though ❤
Well I’ll try and at least match his level of anti-Americanism going forward. Your comment has really inspired me.
@@LiterallyGraphic If you are serious about it then you have to come over to Palestine to see how nicely you'd be treated with your enlightenment and love for same gender. Oh be sure they'd show you some queer love. They love to throw LGBTQ community of the roof more than they like their goats <3
Vampire tales!
Engaging precis of this graphic novel. I found your presentation interesting, informative, balanced, and well paced. So much so that I have purchased 'Palestine'. Your outtake recognising the indigenous tribes I really took to heart. So, I will equally acknowledge the Darkinjung peoples from Woy Woy, NSW, Australia, who's land I occupy.
the whiplash i got when we went from "cute simplistic artstyle" to "whitewashed nuclear family that avoids talking about human class" 😭
I guess I like to keep people on their toes
At first I thought I was experiencing Deja vu cause I literally just watched this same review from four years ago on your older account! Thank you for sharing and spreading the word on these wonderful little gems
I actually have no idea what you are talking about.
Thanks for this review. I really enjoy this series
Wait. You actually refers in your review about the fact that there was no REPRESENTATION OFLGBTQFAK? Who the heck cares? I read Olivier Schrauwen Arsene and enjoyed it, then there was the gay couple (including visual stuff..) I didn't care, I don't think anyone did. Who judges quality of a book based on sexual stuff? That's like eating a pie with your elbows
In general it has become my practice to talk about the inclusion or absence of many different points of identity. It’s just a fact about the book lol.
@@LiterallyGraphic As a straight dude, I really enjoyed reading "why I adopted my husband", I didn't feel that it was missing "straight relationship" in there. All I'm saying is that it shouldn't affect the grade of the story. Inclusion is important, but not mandatory to enjoy a story or to affect its grade. In my opinion. Anyway you have good taste for reading Thomas Ott in the first place 💙
I literally did not “dock points”though for it only being hetero. I just thought the way that women were represented was “old fashioned” and I gave an example of a negative cliche that also is tied to heterosexual relationships.
An interesting contribution to an important subject. I certainly will check it out. Thanks for the recommendation, Meepelous.
I was actually a fan of the dark jem plot line. It highlighted just how much power synergy actually has. It was lightly touched on in the original series but the writers here really got that the thing that makes the pretty light shows can also be a nuck.
💜
Thanks for sharing this interesting book, Meepelous. It makes me want to share a story of my own about someone else who spent time in Canada in internment camps. Last year, I read the biography of Klaus Fuchs, the famous spy. Today in the USA he is remembered almost exclusively as a spy, but that's misleading. He was a physicist by vocation. His conscience did compel him at one point to share scientific secrets. Fuchs was a promising, young German theoretical physicist, a Socialist and an anti-Nazi activist who had been forced to flee Germany before the war. He fled to the UK and demonstrated his extraordinary abilities in experimental physics. When war broke out, he was detained and interned as were all Germans. The British detained them all together--Nazis, anti-Nazis and Jews--all in the same camp. In the process, some even died. Finally, British physicists involved in the development of the Atomic Bomb were able to convince the UK government to release him and enlist him into their efforts. He was invited to the USA to participate in the Manhattan Project as part of the British Scientific Team. His time in the internment camp had convinced him that the British were not much better than the Germans. He felt, as many of the physicists did, that the power of the atomic bomb should not just belong to one or two nations, so he secretly shared classified scientific information with agents of the USSR. Eventually, he was discovered and arrested. After his conviction on espionage charges, he served 9 years in prison. He was demonized in the USA as a betrayer of the "Free World." Based upon standard protocols in the UK, Fuchs was released on good behavior and returned to East Germany to become an important leader in their Nuclear Energy Program. On August 29th, 1949, Stalin successfully tested his first atomic bomb. Before that date, the USA had utilized the bomb twice on civilian targets. There had been talk of putting the bomb to use again in North Korea, but after the Soviets had their bombs, deterrence kicked in. The US insisted that Stalin's possession of the atomic bomb placed the entire world in danger, but no other atomic or nuclear attacks have been carried out since then by anyone. Could Fuchs perhaps have made the ethical decision?
I loved this book! I also found it very informative with the culture as someone who knew very little about it
Promo`SM 🌟
I LOVEE THIS MANGA
I read it in dutch and oml its the most beautiful book ive read
I didn't understand it that well
Astroboy cat
Thanks for the review! This book is ridiculously expensive on eBay. A fun fact, Hagio has on the record stated that Heart of Thomas, her first “BL” manga was directly inspired by one of Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy stories called “the Last Day on Earth” in which Astro protects an agender alien robot named Bem who looks like a cherub from the aliens that created the robot to be a bomb that could destroy planets. There was nothing intentionally romantic about it, but it very much plays out like those tragic shoujo manga romance plots. I don’t know if Go Nagai ever went on the record about being inspired by this particular story either, but there’s also a lot of noticeable similarities of Bem with Devilman’s Ryo Asuka, right down to the angelic features and gender shenanigans.
Oops, sorry Hagio’s first shounen ai was the November Gymnasium but I think that inspiration bled into Heart of Thomas as well.
So cool! Thank you for sharing
I normally don't like a rewriting of The Bard's classics... but I liked this! I'm still looking forward to the movie even if Lakeith Stansfeild is no longer in it. It truly was a page turner (just like the video 😅)!
This is hot❤
worthless review of a pathetic immoral pornagraphic worthless book
Pointless comment that is a waste of time while you could go out and do something worthwhile for yourself and others.
Thanks for reviewing this book, Meepelous. I hadn't heard of Collins before but will definitely get this book out of the library!
All I wanted was just a review of a manga; at 2:50, I didn’t need a lecture about “Gender Stereotypes” or “Toxic Masculinity”.
No one forced you to watch the video lol.
