Lukas Foss, pianist ond composer, was born in Berlin 1922. In 1933 he studied in Paris. In 1937 he came to the US with his parents. So he would have been 8 or 9 years old when he made the recording with Piatigorsky. Not bad!

The best cellist ever, in my opinion. Thank you very much for your effort! (I noticed your post of the same concerto played by Casals -- same tempo, judging by the length but the recording equipment seems to emphasize differently the instruments. As a non-musician, I appreciate the faster tempo of these two, it seems to give life to the piece)

Great conductor, who brought Leningrad Philharmonic to the helm of recognition around the world, as one of the best! He conducted with world renowned soloists. I was privileged to attend most of his performances , until his retirement. He was replaced by Yuri Temirkanov. Unfortunately the quality of this recording doesn’t reflect its beauty.

Dans ma jeunesse (jeune vingtaine), j'écoutais très souvent ce fameux concerto de Mozart, précisément interprété par Isaac Stern. Pour moi, cette musique divine du génial Mozart était inséparable de cet autre génie qu'était Isaac Stern. J'en avais les larmes aux yeux à chaque audition. Merci, Mozart, merci Isaac Stern. Et merci à tous ceux qui nous permettent de les réentendre à volonté.

J'ai toujours pensé que les Intermezzi de Schumann étaient ennuyeux (alors que j'aime tellement toutes ses autres œuvres). C'est la première fois que je les ai écoutés avec Demus. Et la première fois que je les ai aimés.

Un très grand pianiste injustement oublié. Excellent schumanniste en plus. Quand je cherche sur RUclips une œuvre de Schumann et je la trouve avec Demus, je ne cherche plus, j'écoute. Et je sors toujours émue et impressionnée.

Oscar Levant was a very skilled pianist and also a friend of the composer's. I got to know of him in the 1960's from his appearance on the Tonight Show hosted by Jack Paar. Oscar used to mention his book "Memoirs of an Amnesiac" and poke fun at himself. He was a chain smoker. Poor guy. Oscar was so neurotic. The cigarettes no doubt helped to soothe him as well as the prescription drugs he abused. In those days psych meds were just being developed and not very effective. R.I.P. dear Oscar.
