    Hi, thanks for sharing your makes. Out of curiosity, what kind of machine do you use to crank socks?

    • @DelawareSpinster
      @DelawareSpinster 3 месяца назад

      Hi! I got my CSM last year and it is an Erlbacher Speedster which I absolutely love. It feels like it will hold up for my whole lifetime, and that was my goal. I know plenty of people have been thrilled with other CSMs too, and I’m glad there are more options now than when I started looking. I saved up for this after seeing it years ago in person and it certainly is living up to my expectations!

      @@DelawareSpinster thank you, this is helpful. I love to hand knit socks, but it would be so nice to have the option to also crank some at times. I've been looking at Erlbacher and almost have enough saved. My hesitation is - not sure how difficult it will be to teach myself to use it. Thanks again.

      @@lauried1919There is a learning curve, but they include a really helpful manual and Greyson is super responsive. I found it took a few tries for sure but I think it is definitely a skill you can learn from a book and online videos!

      Thank you so much! I love doing a little of all of the fiber arts, but I am a chicken about weaving - we all just have to go out on a limb sometimes and learn from each other! I hope in time to get more into weaving as well as felting.

    I enjoyed seeing your WIP's and am eager to see them progress! Love love love your Nightshift shawl! I'm inspired by the modifications you chose to make, using your stash so creatively for both the Stria and Nightshift. Both of these have been in my queue...calling to me ... I've been enticed to give this idea a try. Thank You!💐

      This is great! I’m so glad you are inspired to use your stash - I think most projects can be modified to use more color and be scrappier than the original designer sample, but especially the Nightshift!

  • @FloraMouflon
    @FloraMouflon 5 месяцев назад

    I love how much artistic thought you put into each project before you start. I agree with you re getting away from the concept of 'stash' - I prefer to think of all my fibres as 'materials' for my fibre arts practice. And as long as I have space, I'll buy fleeces/fibre because I have several small sheep farmers and small fibres businesses that I want to support because we'll lose them if we don't use them.

    • @DelawareSpinster
      @DelawareSpinster 5 месяцев назад

      Thank you! I spend as much time thinking as I do crafting, and I also spend a fair amount of time perusing and shopping. I like the idea of "materials" because that is literally what we have! I have heard "yarn pantry" and I like that too. But you make the best point - small businesses need our support and that's definitely something I can do!

    Just curious.. what did you pay for your fleece? I raise Romney and cvm romedale, and am selling some this year…

    • @DelawareSpinster
      @DelawareSpinster 6 месяцев назад

      Hi! Prices are highly variable from what I have seen. This fleece was 7 lbs and $120 (which we split 2 ways) I don't always pay that much but it has 4-5 inch staple, had been coated and had very little vm, was well skirted, has a softer hand than a lot of Romney I have spun, and we both felt it was worth that price. I would love to hear more about your cvm romeldale since I don't currently have a cvm fleece but I am on the look out for that!

    • @melanietowner5870
      @melanietowner5870 6 месяцев назад

      I have totally charged way to little in the past. I’ve also wanted to sell it, but it is heavily skirted. I asked 10.00/pound. The whole fleece for 8/ pound. The fleece are roughly 6 pounds. The cvm fleece are beautiful, so very soft

    • @DelawareSpinster
      @DelawareSpinster 6 месяцев назад

      It sounds like you could make more on these fleeces especially if they are well skirted. Best of luck! Keep me in mind when you are selling the cvm especially!

    I’ve also been trying to use up my stash of commercial yarns and transition to natural fibers from smaller businesses. Mending has been in my brain but I haven’t committed to it yet, mostly because my boys tear up their socks like crazy so my pile would be ridiculously large lol.

    • @DelawareSpinster
      @DelawareSpinster 7 месяцев назад

      Yeah I definitely started with just mending my jeans and shirts because socks seem like a lot of work to mend in my house. I think even if we make some choices like that (mending, natural fibers, shopping local), it's a start!

    I would never have thought of ripping strips off different batts as I spin the singles in order to redistribute the colour variations between the batts. Such a simple idea. I'm about to start a sweater spin and have been mulling over how I was going to even out the darker batts and the lighter batts, so I'm going to borrow this idea! I'm really enjoying your podcast!

    • @DelawareSpinster
      @DelawareSpinster 7 месяцев назад

      Thank you, I'm glad you are enjoying it! I could talk all day about spinning from batts (my favorite format) but I do a few things to make an even sweater spin if it helps. I spin strips from various batts, I spin all the singles and rewind then ply then all randomly at the end, and if I feel like batts really ended up being an outlier I pay extra attention to distributing those odd ones. Good luck with your sweater spin!
