If you have any films you need restoring then also let me know.

Film transferred from a Nitrate copy of the film duplicated to 16mm in 1977 kept in our collection. Original dupe print was cropped in slightly on the Depue optical reduction film printer. On IMDB we can only find a review from 1916, and no thumbnails, stills or videos seem to exist, the perhaps this is the only known copy to be seen. This is the ONLY copy of the film in EXISTENCE (online yet a...

Outrageously funny 😂😂😂😂 thank you so much! 🥳
Is there sound with the video. I cant seem to get it to work if there is
There is no sound. Filmed with a cine camera. Sound in those days required a seperate piece of equipment.
This is brilliant footage, huge thanks. I’ve run and biked the Incline a few times over the decades, and although the historical descriptions along the route are really well done, this helps to fill in the gaps. It can’t have been that pleasant inside the tunnels for the passengers during the big grind up!
The embonpoint of these women! Enormous! A glimpse of my great-grandmothers! And to think of the boy-skinny flat-chested fashion of the 1920s! Goodness! Very enjoyable, this.
Surprised there were no dialogue captions to this film.Still, it was easy enough to follow. Interesting piece of cinema history.
Seemed entertaining enough, but had no idea what was going on let alone the moral of the story….
It's a great walk. It took four steam engines to lug those carriages up and two diesel electric which managed twice the speed and a fraction of the pollution.
My Grandfather would have been only 16 in 1912. I wonder if he went to movies. There were a ton of things I could/should have asked him. But I never did...
Same ….never asked questions I should have of my own parents…
What year was this taken in?
Probably 1955 the last year that the incline worked. Judging by the gorse in full bloom, it was spring time. The incline closed in October 1955.
Lots of good slapstick comedy. Delightful old film! I had music playing in my head as I watched😅😊😂❤
I must admit that when I played to my family I had some other slapstick comedy music playing - and of course the sound magically lined up and really added to it. Thanks for watching, it seems this is the only copy around!
Go to it, Patsy, use that rolling pin! (Or Matilda, haven't finished it yet.) Was the guy named "Pat" for "Patsy"? Very fun to watch.
That is Matilda with the rolling pin - Patsy is the male lead played by Horace Davies. I can't find much more about him - Live in LA, 1889-1970, stared in 5 films!
Was that at Archerfield in Brisbane?
This footage is wonderful. great to see the old tracks
Some true tough hombres in that lot of soldiers... Lest we forget, and thank you 😊
My terrible GPT translation of the titles would be: "MARINE-flitsen 1 Aug--Dec. 1939". Marine glimpses, there must be a better way to say this in English? Eenheden van het "ESKADER" - Units of the "SQUADRON" Hooge vart - This seems like an old or incorrect spelling, possibly meant to be "Hoge vaart" which translates to "High speed" Paravaanoefening - Paravane Exercise (A paravane is a device used for cutting submarine cables or mines) Sleepmanoeuvre - Towing Manoeuvre Vertrek vice admiraal H.Ferwerda Tg.Priok - Departure of Vice Admiral H.Ferwerda To Priok (Tg. could stand for "naar" which means "to" in Dutch, and Priok likely refers to Tanjung Priok, the main harbor in Jakarta, Indonesia) Lichtspoormunitie - Tracer Ammunition Werkzaamheden - Activities or Operations Hr. Ms. “De Ruyter” catapulteert en vliegtuig - HNLMS "De Ruyter" catapults an airplane (Hr. Ms. stands for "Harer Majesteits" which translates to "Her Majesty's" and is used for ships in the Royal Netherlands Navy) Er komt meer - There is more (indicating additional content or segments follow) - there is more, but it's not naval.
I think my Mum was on the last run over the incline. She lived in Kahutara for a while while my Grandfather (Manager of MacDuffs wgtn) recovered from a crash on 30 June 1944 in a D H Dragon ZK AHT passenger plane on the bush slopes of Mount Hope near Kawatiri.
Really great to see this as Dad ( Leslie George Raikes) was Station Master in Featherston in about 1963, and it was a bonus to see Kaitoke also as my Grandfather (Leslie Dewson Raikes )was Station Master Kaitoke and Grandma operated the tea room there.
Amazing footage. At 0.75x speed it looks just much better. Looks only slightly faster than normal speed.
Yes it is a bit fast - this was the first off a new scanner I'd built so it could have done with a bit attention to correcting playback speed!
Wow 3 years up n only 76 views...goes to show
There is a book on Frank Roberts' garden railway written by his daughter Joyce Roberts called "Steam in Miniature".
What fantastic footage!
Glad you enjoyed it! It's a great colour scan!
Not often that we get to see the Kaitoke station.
This sighting of Kaitoke Railway station was interesting to me as my grandfather was stationmaster there and he got the Queens medal when her train passed through. My grandmother operated the tea rooms there. Also to see Featherston was great as Dad was Station Master there in 1963.
The light coloured car is a 1946 Chevrolet and it looks pretty new so 1946/47 at a guess. Note the split back window on the Chev which was a feature of Australian production. The aeroplane is an Avro 691 Lancastrian, 91 examples were built with the original batch being converted from surplus Lancaster heavy bombers and the later batches being new builds. Qantas did operate a small number and this is clearly one of their ones.
My 46 Fleetmaster was made for the Canadian market, right hand drive, never saw a split window Fleetmaster before, was this made for the Aussy market ?
🎉🎉
Pity No sound but good film coverage otherwise.🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃
Lovely footage! A bit of stabilisation and speed correction will only improve it. Perhaps some appropriate dubbed soundtrack as well?
This was the first roll of a new scanner we'd built, speed is definitely a bit fast! I believe some footage has made it into another youtube video, however this needs it own entire new narration.
Just fantastic, great historical footage. Thanks for uploading!
A 1
Those were the days we miss them
An important doco - they were in NZ first. Māori land rights are bull shit.
Wonderful footage - thank you. But are they really trying to rebuild the Incline?!!!
Terrific! I bet some of my family were there from Carterton.
Amazing footage.
Fantastic old footage, I was a kid back in those days and well remember quite a lot of rail lines especially the central Otago line into Cromwell, Thanks so much for sharing this historic footage.
Just after Huntly the area looked to be on the Pukemiro line where Bush Tramway is.
That's an ADK, not an ADL
ooooh wow. Haunting. Lovely. Those shapes! thank you for this. I even spotted a part that's in my CP-16: the magnetic head didn't change!
This is just heartbreaking.
Is that Ka 944 at Rotorua ?
Extraordinarily good footage. especially the very rare colour Upper Hutt to Summit footage, that is very special to see. Very good of you to upload this.
Wow, pre-electrification . This route must have changed a great deal by now
What, no DCs or Matangis? :P
Super cool!
Maybe one day we'll see K 900 and WAB 800 back in steam
K900 is permanently on display at MOTAT in Auckland, still at least it was not scrapped!!
I modelli sono veramente bellissimi il paesaggio fa da cornice ai modelli creando un ambiente veramente fantastico
Grazie mille!
How fantastic to see, thank you very much. We have some of Frank's old rails in use on our Garden Railway, here on the outskirts of Hamilton, and I believe a part of the viaduct still lives on in Christchurch on another Garden Railway.
Nice video
I really wish Te Papa would display the full collection again like they did when they first opened.
Nice to view this wonderful recording back in 1957, This is a life's time hobby and now a treasure/Taonga of NZ for sure, Thanks
It’s pretty amazing to see what’s on these old films, it feels great to be able to share, thanks for the kind comment! I just read it out to my Mum and it really made her day too!
